reality check

In 2002 a team to the south won the I-AA national title (WKU) and a team to the south just won it all in 2006.  Grand Valley State won it all in Division II (they're back in the title game this year).  Ohio State won the national championship over Miami in I-A (they are in the title game against a team from the Sunshine state this season as well.)  Mount is in the Stagg once again.

Here's to hoping that history continues to repeat itself!  Go Raiders.

Team from the south winning I-AA.....CHECK
GVSU winning DII.....CHECK
MUC winning DIII......CHECK
OSU winning IA.....WORKING ON IT

The 02 DejaVu is nearly complete.

Really nice highlight loop on ESPN.com under the college football homepage right now regarding the Stagg Bowl for anyone wanting to relive the excitement.

Jacobs did have a lot of time to throw but many times he found himself running in circles looking for someone to throw the ball to. Great downfield coverage!

You can say that again!  Lot's of time to throw, but incredible job by MUC's secondary.

A tradition unrivaled...

What a game today by the Purple Raiders!!!  This was not the one dimensional team we saw in earlier playoff games; this was full blown Mount Union Football!!!

Hats off to White Water for a great effort, but "you never saw a team like this before."

How can anyone not admire the talent and brilliance of this program?  As Ric said, we are blessed who wear the Purple and White of MUC.  And we are blessed in the OAC to have great programs like Capital, ONU, BW, and John Carroll to make every year a challenge.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches on #9!

D O.C.

I do not suppose anyone is going to question the platooning of quarterbacks like usually happens.

reality check....I believe Concord De La Salle was national high school champ in 2002 and as of 9:30 PM PST they are behind at half 20-7. They are ranked #1 by USA Today. (But what does that scandal sheet know?)  8)

Just kidding PC. Take it easy. You've had a long week but the football season's over. Have a Happy, Jolly Christmas with the family.
All of you, as well.

Ric put it best, we in Raider Nation are truly lucky, and blessed to be able to watch the evolution of what may go down as the most dominant run in football history...

that being said, congrats to all the other teams in DIII that made the 06 season special for all.  Watching today's game, the hard hitting, the sportsmanship, the gamemanship, etc, just once again showed why us, who love this level of football, are justified in our passion.

I want to wish all of you Happy Holidays, not just in Alliance, but all throughout the special community that D3football has become, and I am just glad I have the oppurtunity to chat football with ya'll for the past few years.

Have a great offseason, see you guys in 07, and we will be waiting for the annual, "you havent seen a team like us yet."  Bring It, we in the Purple and Black love the Bullseye on our backs, lol.

Happy Holidays and a big...

GO RAIDERS

Micheli is the X factor that WW cannot simulate with their scout team.

That was a correct assessment.

Congrats to Mt. Union on a well played game.  You guy's won on offense, defense, and special teams.

I thought your guy's slick athletic qb was the key to the game.  He really played with a lot of confidence and was very decisive with his decision making.

Just really impressed with the Mt. Union program.  Hey, why didn't your coach get the gatorade shower?

Is Mike Gottfried drunk, stoned, or suffering from a stroke?

Exactly my unkind thought.  In years past, I've heard him speak coherently and knowledgeably.  If he isn't recovering from a stroke, he may have been drinking the wrong beverage (for a man on the job) behind a tailgate.

Generally speaking the announcing was lacking in knowledge of Raider football and LK - no understanding of the alternating quarterbacks.  "Second Half Keys: Mount must decide who is the quarterback."  Yah, right.

If I was WW...I would be concerned.  They can gameplan to try to stop Kmic and that's fine.  14 other teams have attempted to do that same thing.  But the real question is what will they plan for next?  I don't think they have any clue about what formations Mount will run or about the tempo of the playcalling.  In fact, I believe some of the vanilla playcalling has been intentional in order to limit the scouting against them for this very situation.  Mount can create offensive identities on the fly and WW knows this fact.

Historically the game is controlled and won in the trenches and Mount has a distinct advantage on both sides of the ball in these areas as D3 Keith outlined.  Additionally, I would take Kmic over Beaver right now and the multi-headed QB system of Mount's over Jacobs and WW.  Jorris was better then Jacobs last season head to head and the dimension of Micheli is the X factor that WW cannot simulate with their scout team.
"...Micheli is the X factor that WW cannot simulate with their scout team."  What insight from an Ohio U Guy.   ;)

Congratulations.

A couple of notes.

Although close Kmic was better than Beaver.
MUC has 7 D3 All Americans and 5 of the 7 will be back next year.   I guess the drive for number 10 will start sometime next week. ( i hope they enjoy this one for a few days).

oops!  my bad,  his non throwing hand.

Quote from Akron Beacon Journal:

"Michael's had some injuries (a nerve injury in his throwing arm and tendinitis in his shoulder) this year I haven't disclosed,'' Kehres said. "So we'd lost our rhythm for a while throwing the football.''
