Pat,

I realize that, but it does say something that they do have a story on their website, AP or otherwise.  I know in years past, there hasn't even been mention of the game.  This year, foxsports had semifinal stories as well.  At least some of the more "major" media outlets are acknowledging our existence.

I think kudos to you and all at the D3 sports sites for that.  I'm sure that you guys had at least some part in "mainstreaming" D3 athletics, at least a little bit.  The internet and cable sports channels have really broadened the amount of coverage for smaller sports and schools.  It's certainly not to the level where it could, or arguably should, be.  But, at least it is out there.

JK: I certainly hope that Marietta will do better than what you predicted. Vrable was a heck of a QB and I enjoyed watching him this year. I just started watching the OAC a little closer this year due to my son transfering from OWU to Marietta in January. My hope is that Coach Wiese will continue to build on their recent successes and be able to recruit competitive players. The more I become familiar with the program the more I like it. I project and hope that Marietta will be in the top 5 of the OAC next year. I know the season just ended but I can't wait for Spring practice. I look forward to offering some jabs and I'm sure I will get several back at me.

Have a safe trip JK.

Merry Christmas and a Happy Football New Year!

Sorry for the delay.  Just returned from Salem and got back on the computer.

Congrats to Mount Union.  They were clearly the best team on the field Saturday once again proving that there is Mount Union and then there are the rest of us.  No doubt about it.

Nice to meet Raiderguy and then bump into him on the plane again.  Hope your final leg was a safe one.  Met several other MU fans who were very gracious in victory.

Good luck in the future.

I now know why Mount's "D" was so dominant,,it was referred to a few times by Pam Ward on ESPN as the new 5-2-5,,,a new concept in the USA

Small but Slow

No wonder Mount's defense has been so good!  That 12th man in pass coverage really helps!  It also allows two deep coverage with eight in the box.  What an ingenius strategy!  That LK is a true innovator.

beenhit2hard

hs coach,,,I aggree and disagree with your thinking  that this was the best mount defense ever.

I agree that this is possibly the best scheme they have had in many years,,good blitz, stunt packages,,and very good coverage schemes,,,,VK is developing into an excellent game caller     , however I think that many former defenses were (in their scheme of play) as good as or even better than this season. Some of the teams in the 90"s had to play some very good teams in the playoffs,,rowan,,lax, St John's ,,trinity etc and those teams were very good,,and MUC'S D defended all of them very well .

Each "D" has had it 's own identity,,,and this one is very, very  good,,,but Mount has had many very, very good defensive teams,,,,,after all,, they won 7 or 8 ncaa's
too.

The  defensive teams of coaches Vince Kehres and Matt Campbell,,were two pretty darn good teams.

Just my opinion

What a(another) great year to be a RAIDER

Rumor has it that the MTU coaching staff started watching Candadian League Football and saw the new defensive scheme of 5-2-5.  They were amazed at how much of a pass rush they could get with 5 DL, cover the middle of the field with 2 LB, the flats with 2 press CBs, and still play cover 3 with the remaining Safeties!  LK has some pull with the officials so the 12th man was conveniently overlooked...

QuoteI also question the playcalling.  How do you have that good of a running back, that good of a receiving corp, that good of a line and you are not better on 3rd down. All year, they have not been good on 3rd down.  You have  the best TE in D3 and you only throw him the ball 20 to 30 yds down field.  I would be getting it to him within 10 yds all day.

Don't forget about the field goal in the fourth quarter to cut Mount's 15 point (2 touchdowns) lead to 12 points (2 touchdowns).  I really didn't understand that call at all.  I'm still trying to figure out the possible logic behind it.

kirasdad,

I've been wondering the same thing.  Especially with 4u's cousin, David Kirkus getting extensive playing time for the Broncos at receiver...

4u and that other guy that was traded to BW by 4u (won't say his name).  Its not the same around here without some of those guys....throw BWdad in there as well.

I think Berezowitz kicked the FG down 15 to try to keep his team's psyche into the game...had they gone on 4th and long and got nothing the balloon is totally burst.  The three points got them a bit closer and could be used to try to pump up the D to stop Mount Union with the game still in reach?
that is the only reason I can see for the FG at the time....plus, the FG was a much better chance at points than converting the 4th and long...
