From ESPN the Magazine's 100 Biggest Stories of 2006:

Longest winning streaks:
HSFB:  151  De La Salle HS - Concord, CA
NFL:  21  New England Patriots
NBA:  33 LA Lakers
CFB:  47  Oklahoma Sooners
CBB:  88 UCLA

What is wrong with this list?

National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

I wouldn't be surprised/aggrivated by ESPN's list if they didn't include high school streaks.  We all know that Division III is overlooked but if you're going to include De La Salle's streak at the high school level, then Mount's should have definitely made the list.

But in the end...are we really surprised by this list?

RC,

Not really surprised, par for the course for ESPN...

I emailed the Editor, we'll see if I get a response.

Personally, I don't have a clue how Garcon would compare to D1 receivers, but what I do know is that he's dominate at the D3 level.  But the most physically gifted and dominating player at their respective position Mount ever had was Chris Kern and he didn't get drafted.  So by that logic, I don't see any way Garcon gets drafted either.

I agree with whoever posted the SJF, MUC, MHB and SJU as the 2007 Final Four.  Ranking them in order of confidence I'd go:
1.  Mount Union - lesser MUC teams have made the semi-final, so why wouldn't this one?
2.  St John's (MN) - Whitewater returns good numbers, but loses some offensive keys and a young SJU team was close in '06
3.  St John Fisher - returns a ton of talent, but looses their playmaking TB.  Key will be playing with high expectations
4.  Mary Hardin Baylor - plenty of talent returns and thorn from '06 (Welsey) will be down in '07

Overall, I don't think we'll see Whitewater in '07 because of their losses of Stanley and Mrvicka at WR, Jacobs at QB and especially Berezowitz at HC.  I know everyone is talking up their offensive coordinator as The Guy, but from what I saw of his offensive gameplans and play calling in both Stagg Bowls, I'm not impressed.  In fact, I'd be VERY surprised if Whitewater makes it out of the West Region in '07.

Way too early prediction for 2007 Stagg Bowl:  Mount Union 27, St John's (MN) 17  ;D
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

To answer your ques.,Steve Smith.I also believe Pierre could be in the rotation at USC,and would be a star at UCLA.For those of you who have seen him run the 100,is the first 50 the best part of his race?Did Kern run track,if so what were his times? Is the sub 10.4 by Garcon correct? The biggest adjustment for Garcon at the next level would be defeating press coverage.

Saints, the representation is huge. The tale of 2 D3 QB's.Perry Klein CW Post,Jeff Ballard MUC.Klein drafted 3rd round Falcolns,Ballard free-agent.Why?Here is the way Klein was sold.Dad is loaded, they rent out LA Coliseum for a private workout.Bill Walsh puts him through a combine workout which he is fully prepared for.On the jumbo-tron is a highlight tape of Perry completing every throw, dating back to HS.Bill is paid a large sum to prep the kid and give him a glowing recomendation, which he does, with Mel Kiper and others standing on the sideline.Kiper is sold, the rest is history. Now you know why Bill selling you to the NFL didn't carry much weight at the end.He often says he contacted every team about Jeff Garcia and no one was interested,I wonder why? This process was also done with Marinovich and a BYU kid,I can't remember. This is why he was drafted, and a guy like Ballard was signed as a free agent.Ballard was hands down better.Note, these are the same guys who are tied into the Jimmy Clausen(my former ballboy) signing fiasco at Notre Dame this year. This is some of the hype BS that is happening.Hopefully Garcon will get drafted so he gets a real shot!!I like the kid!!

Jonny Utah

Has anyone tried to jam Garcon at the line of scrimmage this season?  Hows his strength?

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

Who is Jeff Ballard and when did he play for MTU?  ;)

I thought he played for TCU...

What people who frequent this board think is not important - only what Departments of Player Personnel believe. Based on what I know, I expect that Player Personnel Departments certainly are aware of Garcon but do not rank him highly amongst the many scores of WR prospects playing at higher levels - they probably believe that those few of his numbers, which the NFL Player Personnel Departments have firm reason to believe are accurate, are at best average for bona fide NFL prospects, and of course in their minds he carries the heavy burden of being a DIII player. He will continue to be followed by them on a convenience basis. However, unless and until a Player Personnel Department is persuaded that he can and will consistently perform at a sufficiently high level as measured by it, he will be an after thought and not a draftee  - which would mean that optimistically speaking it might look at his tapes; then if indicated, he might be worked out; and then if the work out is good enough, he might become a free agent signee.

As exciting as Pierre is, lets face it. His chances at the next level, be that NFL, CFL or NFL-E are not good. He is a tremendous athlete with a great skill set but that probably isn't enough. There are some current posts on the Northwest board detailing the trials of Brett Elliott in his attempts to make it in the NFL. He has bounded from Chargers to practice squad to NFL-E in what looks a lot like the Rob Adamson story. I gotta agree with HSCoach on this one, if Chris Kern couldn't stick in the NFL, I'm starting to doubt anybody will ever again make the jump from D3 to anything above NFL hanger'on. I hope I'm wrong and there's another  London Fletcher out there willing to fight his way on an NFL roster.

Speaking of D3 players in the NFL.  What is Tom Arth doing these days?

As to Garcon's strength..........all you have to do is watch what he did to the WW kid after he intercepted that pass in the third quarter.  Now THAT was epic!   ;D

I replayed that play about 10 times just to see the body slam over and over.  Garcon has SCARY strength!

SaintsFAN

...if he uses his strength in that same manner to get off the LOS, he'll be penalized and possibly thrown out of the game.

When Garcon body-slammed the WW player, did the announcers even make a comment about the tackle?  I replayed it a bunch of times and can't remember them saying anything about it.

And if I remember correctly, the next play for Whitewater, Stickley went high to try to bat down a Jacobs pass at the LOS and got flipped head over heels.  His feet had to be 11 feet from the ground.

I remembered watching and thinking, "These guys are laying it all out today."
