RC,For your info,D3's out here in Cali scrimmage Juco's with varying results.College of the Canyons destroyed Occidental 2 years ago,Oxy is similar to BW,John Carroll.Cal Lutheren,in same class as Oxy scrimmaged Cal Poly SLO,their starters played 2 series,it was ugly, they had a quality D1 back who made Cal Lu's defensive players look comical. When they put their backups in,it was a good scrimmage. They offered to open with Cal Lu game 1 the following year for $60k,Cal Lu declined. The SCIAC cancelled jv football in late 90's with devastating consequences.

Interesting conversation.  It would be very interesting to see the best d3 team play an Ivy league school.

Ithaca scrimmages Cornell every year, and they play a real half of football (minus the special teams).  Its usually dead even and the only difference would be the height and size of the oline.  Cornell hasnt been at the top of the Ivy league lately either though.

Im not sure if Mt Union could beat Harvard though this year.  It seems that the Ivy league teams have really gotten better even in the last 4-5 years.  The top Ivy league teams lately have been ranked 1-AA schools and still get many top players out of high school and put a good amount into the NFL and NFL camps.

Because, quite simply, the Ivy Group schools consider themselves way above the DIII schools as far as athletic abilities.  While I agree it would be great to see such matchups on occasion (and see nothing wrong with it), as Frank says, it is unlikely to happen.  Bushman is also correct, although some might reasonably argue that same aspect then applies, for example to the Big Ten/MAC match-ups.  Some of the Big Ten coaches (such as Joe Tiller of Purdure don't like playing MAC schools because they have nothing to gain and everything to lose.  Yet, the reverse argument to that is if the Big Ten teams are so good, then they should beat them anyway.  Personally, I like to see those non-conf games and again, would love to see it with an occasional Ivy/upper tier DIII team, but again it is unlikely.

On the other hand, the Ivies play some of the other DIAA non-scholarship schools such as in the Pioneer League (Dayton, San Diego, Valpo), and as I recall, San Diego beat Yale this year (Dayton came close against Yale few years back in the '90's, but was also smashed by them another year!).  Also, I wouldn't mind seeing some DIII schools play a Patriot Leauge team on occasion, yet as many posters have said here in the past in discussing this type of situation, that doesn't fit in with the DIII playoff considerations in some aspects that might apply in some cases, such as the SOS, out-of-region games, etc.

OK, then let's have Harvard and Centre revive their "rivalry" from way back when. It couldn't hurt, could it?   ;)

Did anyone else hear Ed Cunningham recommend LK for the head coaching job at 'Bama?  Lou Holtz backed him, but didn't think The Tide could persuade him to leave.  I could have been hallucinating again.

Warren: It appears that Harvard and Centre played each other only in '20, '21 and '22, '21 being the year that Centre broke Harvard's 25 game unbeaten streak and won 6-0. On the 75th anniversary of the '21 game Centre challenged Harvard to play again. Harvard declined.

Of course. Harvard being Harvard, would you have expected them to do otherwise? The Cantabs are above that sort of thing ... unfortunately. :'(

Concerning 7 on 7's.....Mount played Kent State last year.  Word was it was a highly competitive matchup.

If LK goes to Bama.......I am all about "Roll Tide Roll!"

Bill McCabe

During the Stagg Bowl broadcast, Mike Gottfried was talking up LK and saying the D1 schools should give him a chance at a job.  Later, he was talking about how he had chosen to stay at MU.  I wasn't sure where he was heading with that analysis.

Small but Slow

Cunningham's comments were probably tongue in cheek, but it would be great to see what LK could do with a program such as 'Bama.  I can't see it working out even if 'Bama was to court him.  It has become too much of a no win situation.  Anyone who knows him or has witnessed the growth of Mount's football program could easily believe he could succeed at any level.

There is a big difference between recruiting for D1 and D3.  The limited number of scholarships leaves little room for error.  However, being at Alabama would certainly be an advantage.  It would be fun to see how he would do at Bama.  Based on his success, I'm surprised more teams haven't considered him for jobs.
