Now, I'll watch the Irish tonight with one eye open and hope they don't get pounded.

That's odd.  I'm going to watch the game tonight with both eyes glued to the TV hoping they get pounded. ;D

hscoach,

I hope you've gotten to see the Boise State finish by now (though it just won't be the same knowing already that it actually worked)!

And yes....

Michigan sucks the green weenie!!!

Hey now, purpled,

I expect abuse for my grad school (Michigan) on the OAC board, but why ya bringin' my undergrad alma mater into this?!  >:( (For whatever reason, IWU is often known as the Green Weenies on the CCIW boards - jealousy, no doubt ;).)

No offense...what can I say but I'm a Buckeye fan!  ;D

purpled,

No offense taken - I found it hilarious that you managed to (inadvertantly) trash both my schools with one 5 word taunt!  Maybe even all three - my long time employer was Eastern Michigan, the TRUE Green and White in Michigan whatever those folks in East Lansing may think! ;)

Sugar Bowl:
I should've closed the other eye....
Summary from NDNation.com says it best:
"Notre Dame's defense skipped out the back door at the Sugar Bowl, while the offense simply failed to make plays early on. The Irish beat themselves on offense in the first half. Count the ways: Samardzija's stupid penalty on the first drive, Freeman's third down drop, ball lost in the lights, failed fake punt... I'm sure there were more. These were all purely Irish mistakes and Notre Dame might have been able to stay in the game as they controlled the first 30 minutes piling up running yards and eating up the clock by a 2-1 margin. But the book on Notre Dame's defense has stayed the same since OSU last year: go long, then gut them, then go long again. The book on the Irish offense: Pressure Quinn and take away the short passing game. Result: LSU 41, ND 14."
LSU QB JaMarcus Russell - a true 6'6" 260 - Wow, the guy can do it all.
LSU LG Hermann Johnson - at 6'7" 360 "can be seen from the Space Shuttle."

Charlie Weis - I wouldn't compare him to LK, but then nobody really compares to LK.  LK went 17-5 his first two years.  CW goes 19-6, but LK followed Ken Wable (11-1 in '85) and poor Charlie came in after Willingham and Davie with ND troops depleted. (ND only has 8 or 9 juniors and few decent sophomores from Willingham's last two dismal recruiting seasons).

Why I follow the Irish?  I got a kid there.  He graduates in May, but now I'm hooked and will continue to follow the Irish even if it's sometimes (bowl games) with one eye open.

runyr,I don't know Charlie, but after sitting in on one of his recruiting visits(not my idea,a favor to the principal),a painful experience to say the least,I would offer this advice to Charlie.Charlie, please accomplish something first before considering yourself a great college coach. The Patriots were Billichik's team, not yours.Sell Notre Dame not yourself, the last thing these kids want to hear is you going on and on and on and on about yourself.

Pheeewwwww!  Thank goodness the WW folks seem to have taken a step back from the Jim Jones special kool-aid stand!   ;D

To be completely honest, I wish they would have hired Z to be their head coach as well.  I think his game plan, and play calling in two Stagg Bowls was anything but stellar.  All they tried to do for two years straight was THROW DEEP, and RUN THE EDGES.  YAH.....good plan!   ;D

I am guessing they made a really good choice.

HScoach

Skunks:  I agree 100%.  Wasn't impresses with their offensive play calling either.  How does a team with a 2 time WIAC Player of the Year at QB, the 2005 season rushing leader at TB,  an absolute stud at TE and WR's the caliber of Stanley and Mrvicka need to get the ball at the MUC 4 yard line in order to score their only TD in the Stagg Bowl?  Granted the MUC defense is very, very good, but it doesn't add up.

With a very good running game and a stud at TE, I'd be running underneath play-action stuff all day long.  Not trying to hit a 260 lb TE on 40 yard post routes.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

wow i cant tell u how boring the schools days are becoming without being able to stir something up on here... do u have to throw out a MUC sucks to get kirasdad reved up or LK is overrated....

I read a quote by Weiis that went something to the effect  that 'We have a good solid team but not an upper echelon team."  Charlie knew he couldn't run with the big dogs this year.  But they gave it their best.  What's the total enrollment of ND?  about 5000?
Hell of a big band for that enrollment size.

Sending any top recruits to MUC this year.  Gotta start working on the CA pipeline now that the Florida one is going pretty good.

Going to Vegas tomorrow and for the Nat'l Championship game was thinking about taking the Buckeyes and the Under what do you think?

About 8300 undergraduates.

frank,

think your numbers more approriate as 83s the end per bambords logic if log base 6 is employed as opposed to log base 10.  Leave the decimation to the baseball guys with their BA, we still score in sixes with 1s 2s and 3s to capitalize right?

Now, joelmama, with all that fun with numbers stuff out the way, without knowing the spread, would have to say take the under unless you are expecting defensive scoring.

Think Ohio States offense will come through their running back and Floridas offense will depend on Leak.  Floridas defensive speed keeps Troy from breaking the perimeter tothrow and Ohio States D will simply keep the Gator O in check.  Unless these teams start trading body blows with defensive scores I think O/U should be somewhere around 38.

Joelmamma,
It could be done, especially with Giese being president. However we need a plan to overcome a few obstacles.Zuma Beach vs the twin lakes;sunburns in Feb. vs frostbite;females??back in the day the females at MUC could hold their own with anyone(S.Cali) included,is this still the case?townies vs gangsters, are townies still similar to carnies(carnival workers),you know small hands, smell like cabbage!!Playing pick up basketball with Ice Cube,or Luke Witte. And the BIG ONE,taco's at Sambroso(comes with a sweat towel) or taco's with ketchup,I mean taco sause at Slaters. To all,no offense, just a poor attempt at humor.I love MUC,and would love to start the pipeline!

Enterprise, interesting.  Thanks for the insight.  When was it when you listened to him?  Was it recently?  I'd imagine he's evolving as a coach and recruiter, but at least he's trying.  The last coach the Irish had seemed more interested in golfing than recruiting, at least that's what I've heard.  The only thing I know for sure about Charlie Weis is he's chubby.  The main thing I can say about Notre Dame is there are worse places to go to school.  I had little knowledge of the place until my son went there.  I've been very impressed with almost everything I've since learned about it through my son's experience and personal observations.  But he doesn't play football there.  He played in high school, but never considered it at ND.  There doesn't seem to be any middle ground when it comes to Notre Dame.  People seem to either love them or hate them.  I never appreciated the arrogance of many Domers and Domer fans I'd known.  There's a lot less arrogance there in recent years (duh).
I do think Weis's best team is ahead of him.  He appears relentless in the effort to bring in some good football players.  His 4th and 5th years on the job should tell the tale after a couple more good recruiting years.  (He did coach a high school team to the New Jersey State Championship.  I know, so did Gerry Faust.)
Okay, I'm done with this subject on the OAC board and I apologize to those who've had to scroll past this to get to something relevant!  ;)
