clandfan - Against Mt. Union's offense it's a matter of picking your poison.  Sending LB's and pressing with the DB's opens up more running lanes for WR's and Kmic.  In all honesty, the Cortland "D" did it's job.  The offense needed to hold the ball longer and finish some more drives.

Small.....don't get me wrong...I absolutely agree that we have to move the football and that we can't win with only 17 minutes in possession.  We needed to establish the run and we did not.

As to the defense doing their job....they gave up 41 points, 500 yards in total offense, and like so many before...could not tackle Kmic and allowed 42+ minutes of offensive possession.  Nobody has scored more than 14 pts on MUC all year.  If we can get our offense on the field, I think we can score more than 14.  So...you are right in that our offense needed to get a few first downs and allow our defense to rest but the defense needed to make a few stops and their 3rd down effort was poor.  I do think they were too conservative.  Now if we get burned deep or Kmic breaks a long one...then we adjust... but to sit back and allow Micheli and Kmic to bite off 6-7 yds a pop, march down the field and eat up the clock all day long...played right into the hands of MUC.  Your coach simply said...hey, if you want to give us 6-7 yds all day, we will take it.

Factual clarification:  Otterbein scored 20 points on Mount Union this year.

2nd...Did you say "we needed to establish the run"???  Understatement of the Year!Seriously, you had ZERO yards rushing for the game...FOR THE GAME.

HSC,

I agree with your assessment on Ittersagen. Coach K is awfully good at limiting the other team's best players. I think Mt. Union's dominance largely comes from the fact that teams like Wheaton have guys like Ittersagen or Studebaker, players that have the ability to play with any other player on Mt's roster but Mt has guys at positions #3-11 that are superior athletes than other team's #3-11. Ittersagen will be an important factor in the running game as he is as good a tackler as Wheaton has with great speed. Hopefully he won't be needing any of that in the running game on Saturday!  ;)

I also hope Ittersagen gets some chances on punt returns but Mt has not had to punt much this year.  :-[

USee,

And when MUC has punted they've been 30 yard punts and such.  By design or not --That doesn't give Ittersagen a whole lot of time to get moving upfield.

Sure would be nice if Ittersagen was in for more than one play as well.  Last time Wheaton played MUC, Ittersagen made a tackle on Kmic for a 1 yard gain on the first or second play of the game, but severely broke his ankle on the play.  It was an ominous start to an ugly day for Wheaton.

There was some serious concern after that injury if Ittersagen would ever return to form.  Thankfully he has...

Is anyone intersted in getting together Friday night at Brenda's for a beverage?  Or two?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

It ain't Brenda's no more!!!  It got bought out by a MUC alum from back in the 90's.  It's called "Wing Warehouse" now. It's a place where you can now get wings and such as well as brew. Kitchen is open til midnight on Friday and the bar is open til 2:30.  Been wanting to try it out.

I think it would be great, provided you can put up with one of the "easily offended" ;D ;D

They even have an outside seating area now (which is closed for the winter, I know, I know) so we can freeze our butts off just like at the game!

I think I'm in for this btw.  Whats the atmosphere like?  I'm sure hscoach will be able to keep me out of trouble, hopefully.

It would be nice to meet some of you up there and put a face behind the name.

Alliance is a 4 hour drive for me from the Northern suburbs of Cincinnati.  I'm going to leave work a bit early on Friday.
