Alliance is a 4 hour drive for me from the Northern suburbs of Cincinnati.  I'm going to leave work a bit early on Friday.

SaintsFAN:
Where do you live? I live in Wyoming and work downtown.

I live in Hyde Park and work in Eastgate at Total Quality Logistics.

Did you go to school in the area?

I got your back Saintsfan.

He went to a hillbilly Catholic school in Hamilton.

haha...thanks, RC.

OU,

You went to school with a "Cassano"??  Isn't that right?  Or was it someone that owned Richards Pizza?  They had good hoagies.

Wasn't Wheaton a 7th seed?    Is  this their best team to face Mt.?   On the other hand  sometimes it is not good to get what you wish for.     If we make it,  I'll take either one.  However the MHB loss still leaves a sore taste.

Just an opinion... but I don't think this is the "best" Wheaton team MUC has faced though it may be close to the same level.  1995 or 2002 would get my vote.  I think the 1995 and 2002 Wheaton teams matched up well, but just made too many costly mistakes and LK made some significant adjustments that turned the tide.

Wheaton was a #7 seed because they had a 2 week stretch where they played horrible.    Wheaton was 6-0, ranked #4 in the country and cruising before a matchup against #10 North Central (who was also 6-0).  North Central whup Wheaton.  Wheaton then played their worst game by far the following week and lost to 7-3 Elmhurst.  So with 2 loses, everyone thought Wheaton's season was over.  Wheaton finished strong with 2 wins against tough CCIW opponents, beating Illinois Wesleyan 44-10 and Carthage 51-24.   Spanning the last 2 CCIW wins and the 3 playoff games, Wheaton has been playing their best by far.

It could also be debated that this is turning out to be one of the best Mount teams to face Wheaton as well?

That's odd.  I was just getting ready to post that this ISN'T one of the best Mount teams that Wheaton has played.  It's a good MUC team, but the O-line and undersized DT's/LB's keep me from putting it anywhere near the top.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I agree with you on this. Some teams have found some success running the ball up the middle.

Sounds like we're on for 9:00-ish Friday night at the old Brenda's, now Wing Warehouse.    For those not familiar with the area, here's the address:

Throwing my two cents in on who I'd like to see Mount play if they make it to the Stagg:

UMHB: This game was ridiculous.  No question that their run offense was as good as any I'd seen.  However, anyone who was there or saw the last play (or any pass play during the game) knows that it was 95% luck and 5% skill.  Having a 4 foot safety didn't help us either.  Of course I'm a little bitter, but there is no question in my mind that they were not the better team that year.

That being said, I'd like it to be the Crusaders.

I wouldn't miss this since your buying the first roud hscoach

If Mount makes the Stagg Bowl, it won't make any difference since both teams wear purple.

Productivity-wise... I think it's worth a debate.  I'm just saying that many of you would have thought that if Kmic & Co. were going to set an all-time single-season rushing record it would have been last season with a veteran offensive line and not this year with all underclassmen.  They have not received enough credit for what they have been able to accomplish this season.  Pass protection-wise...I've only seen Micheli on his back due to a coverage sack or other indecision.  Micheli is also having an all divisions record setting individual season as well.  To date, no team has been able to take Mount out of their offensive gameplan.

Comparing the 5 previous matchups offensively versus Wheaton..
Here's Mount' Big core offensive playmakers at QB, RB & WR. versus Mount's current Big 3 (Micheli, Kmic, Shorts)

2006
Jorris/Micheli
Kmic
Garcon

Thoughts: An experienced Sr. Micheli is better then a Jorris/Micheli split.  Sr. Kmic is better that Soph Kmic.  Garcon was a great player but had 3 catches versus Wheaton so I'm saying a draw with Shorts.  Advantage: 2008 weapons

2004
Bruney
Strauch
Cavell

Thoughts: No question...  Advantage: 2008 weapons

2003
Bruney/Burghardt
Strauch
Knapp

Thoughts: No question...  Advantage: 2008 weapons

2002
Adamson
Pugh
Knapp

Thoughts: All good consistant players however...again...They cannot stack up with the talent of this year's playmakers.  Advantage: 2008 weapons

1995
Borchert
Lantos
Zufra

Thoughts: Well...Borchert is my all-time favorite QB....but that being said..this game was played when he was a Sophomore...and he was definitely better in '96 & '97 so not his best year.  Did not get to the Stagg...so at this point in Borchert's career....Micheli is better.  The other positions...no question.   Advantage: 2008 weapons

Defensively...the 2008 version leads the nation in rush, pass and scoring defense so I don't know what else you can say.  They are coming off a game versus a very physical Cortland team which I'm sure would have given every WIAC team problems..and allowed zero rushing yards.  You can't blame the weather because Kmic and Panchek had no trouble getting their yards.

There's not a lot of big names on defense but they certainly get the job done. To just dismiss the 2008 team without doing a little research is foolish.  I think Wheaton will be facing the most explosive Mount team comapred to any previous matchups they've had in the past...and defensively I like our chances.

I just think it is worthy of a debate and not so easily dismissed.

The talent level is top ranked, but since hscoach is coming the talent level just dropped down a level.

Ohio University in the early 1980's.
Unfortunately, I can't come up this weekend...I don't think.  I'll be watching the game live online in the 'Nati.  I think there's going to be a free streaming feed somewhere!?!

On the topic of who I'd rather see in Salem, I'd rather see Mary Hardin Baylor.

The temptation to play Whitewater again and prove that last season was a "fluke" ;D is there, but I hate the thought of making the entire nation sit thru MUC/WWW Part 4.   That isn't interesting on any front to anyone outside of Whitewater or Alliance.  This is just a repeat of '07 with the "been there, done that" attitude leading up to the game.

Facing MHB would be a much more interesting contest for the simple fact that it's a new team and I think D3 fans around the nation would get curious about seeing what MHB could do against The Machine.  I also think the team speed and option offense that MHB brings would make for a very competitive battle on the field.

I didn't realize a UWW victory would mean "MUC/WWW Part 4". I missed the fact that MUC is already in the game. I thought MUC had a game this weekend, too. Sorry, my mistake.
