This 11 am kickoff time for the Stagg Bowl irks me. What are we supposed to do, roll out of bed and start tailgating? Olinemom will be preparing flapjacks instead of brownies this year. Just aint right! Stone Station will have to be set up the night before, and even then there wont be enough time before kickoff to fully enjoy it. The diehard tailgaters will enjoy their flapjacks with a non traditional "syrup". Maybe some Mrs Butterworths cut with a little Jack Daniels. The brats will be replaced with link sausages. THIS IS NOT FOOTBALL LIKE! Put it in the bylaws for future years...NO STAGG BOWL KICKOFFS BERFOE 2 PM......who is with me on this one! ::) :o >:( ;)

I'll vote for that.   In fact, I think 2 PM is just about perfect.

Don't mean to interrupt your tailgate plans, but silly folks on the CCIW board are talking about a game in Alliance this weekend! Maybe one of you could be kind enough not to let them know not to waste their time making the trip.

Probably a bowl game or two or three.

Quite true for ESPN.  Their day is filled with the scintillating line-up of the EagleBank Bowl (Navy v Wake Forest) at 11, New Mexico Bowl (Fresno St. v Colorado St.) at 2:30, and the Las Vegas Bowl (BYU v Arizona) at 8 - I'm drooling already! :o

Also college basketball.

I suspect this is the case, since ESPN2 (where the Stagg Bowl will be) otherwse only has the 'can't miss' spectacular of the St. Petersburg Bowl (USF v Memphis) at 4:30. :P

question for the board:  What is the talent like at this place hscoach has picked out?

The talent level is top ranked, but since hscoach is coming the talent level just dropped down a level.

HS Coach IS the talent at this place!

yes the 11am start time really, really sucks... its a showcase for DIII football.  But seriously, this is where "taking it for granted" comes in -- Remember when it was a joy and something to look forward to with Mount just being able to play for the title??  Where is THAT feeling?  I know most of the MUC posters realize the significant run they are and value it right now.  You will all look back one day and say, "that sure was great. remember when..."

When I talk about Mount Union football, I tell them I am spoiled.  And spoiled rotten, for sure.  But I tell you,  I sure am enjoying the ride!

Bloody Marys at 6AM ?   I'm barely awake at 6AM--and hardly ever on Saturdays!

ok gentlemen, i hope i didnt offend any of you with that greeting. ;)

i am thinking about making the trip to alliance to see the game on saturday.  it is about a 6.5 hour drive from the philly area.  if i leave at about 3 and dont hit any traffic i could be in alliance around 900 - 930 friday evening.  is this wing place worth the trip?  i had planned on staying in the pittsburgh area friday night and then driving to alliance saturday morning, but i have never been one to miss a good gathering where some adult beverages and good food are being served.

i read that the meeting time is around 900, would one more be welcome?  i know i met a couple of you guys at the stagg last year, hscoach and skunksidekick, i believe, and probably several others with the stone station guys.  might sound crazy to some, my wife included, but i just want to see a football game.  any reason that i should not make the trip other than the fact that it might be a blowout?

ALL are welcome.  I don't know "specifically" what you mean by "worth the trip," but the wings are decent and they have many adult beverages On-Tap and in bottles.  I emailed my fraternity brother, and he is in-fact a part owner of the joint.  He said they started advertising recently and business has been great lately.  I won't be able to attend, can't make the drive from Tampa and can't afford the flight, but I am sure HSCoach wouldn't mind one more on his tab.

WesleyDad:  You've got some serious stones to pull a road trip on the wife, but come join the party!  In regards to the game, I don't think it will be a blowout, but I do expect Mount to win.  If I had to guess, probably a 7 point game heading into the 4th before Mount pulls away.

And for the record, we're not meeting at this place because it's great food, world class "talent", or free drinks.  We're meeting there because it's the only place in Alliance that we all can find since it's right beside campus ;D

Is there some big event the afternoon of the Stagg Bowl that is superseding the Division III championship?   It sure seems strange that the game starts at 11:00.  This must be an ESPN decision.  Why would Salem or the NCAA care what time it starts?

Yeah they've got a highly anticipated third replay of an August Poker Tourney from Reno, Nevada.  Or maybe it's a rerun of some lumberjack competition like they ran a couple years ago after the Stagg.  You know, it has to be something big like this to displace our beloved DIII.

And we gotta teach old HURF how to quote.  I thought he reported hscoach to the moderator or something, although he probably deserves it.

RC,

I'm taking the cleaning bill out of your plane flight $ after I spewed coffee all overmy desk.....

And yes, we need to teach HURF how to do the quote thing.  Maybe I'll convert tomorrow's gathering to a training/seminar so I can run the bar tab thru on my expense account at the office for "professional development"?

Wesleydad!  Come on over.......they will probably have a few of the Great Lakes brews on tap, and if not, certainly in the bottle.  As cheap as gas is these days, you can probably get some beer freebies to more than make up for the tank of gas.  First few on me!

Great article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  Terry Pluto is one of the "great ones", and he really gets what MUC football is all about.
