KD - Subrural is an accurate term, yes, we are surrounded by cow pastures, and occasionally an alligator runs across the practice fields during the mating season, but I have not yet had a kid miss practice to milk the goats.  That, my friends, is rural!

When I was in HS, NJ allowed only three days of preseason camp, we used to have 3 a days.  We couldn't start the three a days until 8:00 so the farm kids could get there after milking and the same farm kids had to leave by 5:00 for afternoon milking.  Somewhere between a third and half the team.
I come from a rural area myself.  I actually missed a few days of preseason practice due to an injury from a truck running over my foot while I was working in the hay field.  I actually had more head injuries from cows on the farm than I did playing football.

Our preseason workout program was baling hay and shoveling ____.    Coach would even help some of the more city kids (and I use the term "city" very loosely) find farmers looking for summer workers.  Ah, the good ole days.

Nice article on Chad Reynolds on the front page!

very good article on Chad, Pat and crew do a fine job in trying to cover all the angles.   Gut feeling, I think WW will easily handle the boys from Texas.

Hey all Mount fans. I kno everybodys focused on Wheaton. But I was curious to see what you guys thought about the UMHB and UWW game this weekend. I see the Cru winnin 30-21. What do you guys think?

skunks_sidekick

I see a 10-7, 17-14 type game, with whoever can penetrate the others 30 last, kicks the game-winning field goal.  As to who that is........no clue.

When my old HS sending district was mainly rural and a lot of farms the HS had a great wrestling program and a good football program.  With the disappearance of the farms and houses being planted where corn once grew the football program is still pretty good but the wrestling program has slipped badly.  Bailing hay, shoveling ****, etc built great football and wrestling strength, it was also good for the weights in track and field.

What would be worse....MUC losing to Wheaton in the semis and Kmic  JUST missing the all time rushing record by a handfull of yards, or going all the way to the finals and Kmic breaking the rushing record but comming up just short of the title again? At least if they bow out  at at home more Raider fans can show Nate their appreciation for what he has done in his career. I think it would be best to just win it all AND set the rushing record on national TV........just to play it safe! ;)

LK needs to come up with some kind of signal to let the fans know when he is pulling Nate for the last carry of his MUC career, so the fans can give him a PROPER curtain call. It might be too windy to hold a lighter in the air.....rock concert style....but it would look great on TV! ;D  Maybe LK can just come out on the field and take Nates helmet from him. That way we would know that really WAS  his last play. Same for Micheli.....he needs a little love from the stands too! What can we do to show our respect and appreciation? Ideas anybody?

Anybody remember watching Billy Borchert weeping on the sidelines after his last snap in the Stagg Bowl? It is forever etched in my memory. A really great moment. And I still have it on tape! Im gonna go put that one in now.

I think Nate would take a win win over any record, the guy is a team player

And if he can get the record while working towards a victory, it really will be a win win [sic].   ;D

wesleydad

gentlemen, i have made my reservations and am about to go hunting for my cold weather gear for saturday.  my itinerary is as follows, leave school at 210 - have to wait for the kids to clear the halls, arrive home at 245, change, grab the bag and be out the door by 3.  if i can avoid any traffic and the occasional speed trap, google says i will arrive by 930 at the super 8.  since i dont follow the same speed rules they do i should by able to cut some of that time off and be there by 9, quick check in and then off to the wing warehouse.

since i will be starving by then, i hope the wings are good and hot, both temp and spice.  skunk, i will be looking forward to more of the fine brew that you had last year at the stagg.  i would like to thank you guys for your invite, this d3 football stuff is really great.

hope to see you guys then.  i may even have to cheer for mount union :D.

HScoach

Safe travels and God speed.

See you tomorrow night.

You have no idea!  Folks down here are just a bit on the relaxed side.  I've had kids ask to miss practice for Mom's birthday, miss games for sister's birthday, N'Sync concerts (yes, football players), and cruises.  The level of commitment isn't quite the same as in the buckeye state.

Small but Slow gets  the magic number and his quotability goes to the goats.  I have the same problem...never can make it do the same thing twice.  I'm up for the tutorial.
