I want to pre-order a Terry Pluto book to put next to my Alonzo Stagg book. ;D

Actually I know Terry and it's not that far-fetched as they are very like minded individuals. I have signed copy of everyting he has written. My son inherits them, thats how much I cherish them.  :)

WOW Kudos to Wheaton, they had a real Mount like performance!  They just keep getting better everytime they play us.  Coach Swider must be a terrific coach. There was no let down from his team, they were well disciplined and both teams played hard and clean.  I think there should be a game for the runners up to replace the Aztec bowl.  UMHB vs Wheaton.

I'm glad you mentioned the Aztec Bowl.  I don't know if I just missed it (probably the case) or what but I just read about the fact that the Mexican side of the agreement just up and told the AFCA they wouldn't honor their financial obligation and the AFCA elected not to send a team down this year.  That's too bad for all those deserving seniors.  Times are tough and it's hitting everywhere.  Still too bad for those kids to get to go on a once in a lifetime trip.

[Mount Union fans: The Aztec Bowl is a game that was often played by some of the best athletes in Division III.  The team competed against a group of Mexican All-Stars across the border.  The USA dominated the series however it is highly likely that this is the first time you've ever heard or read about it since you traditionally have something better to do and have been so snooty that you never send a representative to the game.   ;D ]

congratulations to the Purple Raiders for a great win yesterday. I thought the story of the game was the overwhelming display by Micheli and Kmic. The Mt Union offense is really something. After holding Kmic to less than 10 yds in the first quarter I thought we might have a game. He was really impressive and the Mt Union OLine was dominant. I thought Micheli was as poised a qb as I have seen. Very confident and knows where to go with the ball. Wheaton had their chances in the first half but you can't put the ball on the ground and drop passes thrown right to you. Even without Rocky and their top OLineman (1st team all region OT Jesse Scott was there but never played in the game) the OLine did a great job protecting Norris and he did a great job delivering the ball on target even when he was taking hits. Take away the fumble and the 3 drops and its a much tighter game going in to halftime. All that said and none of those guys were playing defense for the Thunder yesterday and that was the story.

Even though it was painful I was really glad to see history made by Nate in an incredible performance. It was very appropriate he set the record on a TD run. Kehres is fun to watch during the game and after all the Mt Union players had left the field I watched him seek out several wheaton players to give a personal word of encouragement.

Good luck in Salem, although I really don't think you will need it. Having seen UWW and MUC this year I would be very surprised if Mt Union didn't win fairly handily.

Please don't bring back Pam Ward, she gave away Mount's secret weapon when she revealed we play a 5-2-5 defensive set.? ???

Now everyone will start using it. ;D
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I'm sticking voodoo pins in my Pam Ward doll. I'm going to post a picture of her next to the definition of "Awful" on Wikipedia.

(Yeah - This 61 year old actually knows how to do that, even though I'd get my rights on Wikipedia suspended) ;D

first, thanks to all the mount folks that greeted me at the wing warehouse on friday night, except for the snow around pittsburgh that made it a little dicey, the ride was just fine.

second, thanks to skunk and skunkssidekick for inviting me to your pre game ritual of margaritas and mexican breakfast before the game.  that was a first for me.  sorry i could not find you guys at halftime or after the game to thank you again for your hospitality.  i will be seeing you again in salem this weekend.

hscoach, yes, i guess it might have been crazy to make the drive, but i did see a pretty good game and got to see kmic break the record.  it was nice for him to do it at home in front of the fans so that he could receive the recognition that he deserves.  you were also correct in your analysis, if wheaton losses the battle at the line, they have no shot.  they lost it most of the game and got beat.

seventiesraider, nice talking to you at the game.  see you next weekend.

my take on the game.  mount is very good on offense and took advantage of what was given them.  the changes made at halftime to open up the run were excellent.  micheli is very good at reading the field and pulling the ball down and running when he needs too.  kmic is a joy to watch.  he never quits on a run.

defensively, they give up too many yards passing.  i am not sure what the total was but it could have been much more it wheaton hadnt had the drops in the first half.  they were able to get pressure on the qb in the second half when they needed it, but still could not cover very well down the field.

i was not impressed at all with ittersagen.  he did not make a play all game and failed to cover short on some key plays that allowed mount to keep drives moving.  he also was not impressive on kickoffs.  mount kicked it high and short, but he still took most of them up to about the 40, which mount seemed to be happy with since they didnt change the strategy.

i just read the umhb folks take on their game and they were talking about how big and dominating uwww's lines were.  if that is the case, then mount may have trouble next week.  hscoach and skunkssidekick have both previously mentioned that they think mount will have trouble against big physical lines.  it should be another good game and will be fun to watch.

see all you guys that make the trip to salem this weekend.  i will be with the stone station folks.

I remember when MTU took a HUGE O-Line to Salem and ended up getting punched in the mouth by St. Johns.

Hopefully we can take our smaller/quicker line this year and do the same to UWW.

A couple of observations from the game yesterday....

--Did anyone notice how many recruits MUC had in the endzone??  It looked like a patchwork quilt with all of the letter jackets--I thought the student section had stayed after exams....

--Kehres never stops coaching.  At the end of the game, with the outcome no longer in doubt, he about blew a gasket with the 2nd team defense when they allowed the final Wheaton score.

--The offensive line, while maybe undersized, is quite athletic.  They get upfield on their blocks, and run well.  The MUC philosophy appears to be speed/quickness over size.

Will be making my first trip to the Stagg Bowl....should be a lot of fun!

We're the home team but which side, east or west? Should have asked that earlier.

reality check

Being a little curious about how many media outlets were running articles on Kmic's record, I typed his name in a Google search.  I found on the first page an article from the Toledo Blade written in 2004.  I've linked it here.  It's pretty interesting to read it now knowing what he's done and how he's done it a MUC.

He ran for almost 1700 yards in less than 170 carries good for more than 10 YPC and scored the fifth highest total in OHSAA history for a single season.  It also mentioned that he did so while not playing in the second half of seven of his games in his senior season.

Sounds a lot like the blueprint for his years at MUC too.  Ironic.
