"because this is the best team Larry's ever had."

BTW...whoever said that about last year's MUC team knows nothing of MUC football.

OU-25,

I personally think you're on crack with the 50 point prediction, but you're right about the best team ever.  That would be 1997.  By a pretty wide margin.

If Hobart and Cortland State made Mount work to get in the low 40's, there isn't any way Mount scores in the 50's against WWW.   I'd say upper 20's to low 30's is more like it.

Whitewater will have the advantage on both sides of the line of scrimmage.  But I'm counting on a very smart senior QB, a very focused & talented senior TB and a deep receiving core to make enough plays to make up for the LOS problems.

Forget points.  Let's hope for a Mount victory and a lot of enjoyment this weekend!  Can we agree on that?

b] but I can honestly see Mount scoring into the 50's.[/b]

I have a $50 bill that says they won't.  Mount may win afterall they are damned good football team.  But they will not score in the 50's against our defense.

Are you up for putting your money where your mouth is? I await your response.

How about if Mount puts 50 on WWW then you put an MUC logo under your D3 screenname for all of 2009.  If WWW puts 50 on Mount then I'll put a WWW logo under my screename for '09?

Ok, you're not up for it.  I understand.

That would be a foolish bet for me because...

1. I don't habor any delusions suggesting we'll put 50+ points on the board against Mount Union.  That was you. :)    Aside from a pathetic Puget Sound team and River Falls we haven't put that many points on the board against anyone and I give Mount Union's defense way too much credit to think we'll do it against them.

2.  Quite frankly I don't feel like wearing a Mount Union logo for a year if you do. :D

I was just reacting to what you said.   You say you BELIEVE but you just don't BELIEVE enough to put your money on it.  If you're not comfortable with the bet that's fine.  I'll just drop it.  But I will say that neither of these teams is going to beat the other by 50+ points.   If you do I'll be back singing praises to your offensive poweress.

I think badgerwarhawk and buckeyeraider should have a wrestling match or something in the parking lot at Salem to settle which DIII-DI combo reigns supreme.

Can we at least get some Wii boxing going on?  Anyone?

Congratulations to Kmic and the entire Mt. Union organization. Hoping I will be able to travel to Salem this weekend to see you win the Championship.

For those of you looking for good food, there is a place on Main Street in Salem, called Max and Bob's. Great food (all types).

In a big game with two evenly matched teams, it has been my experience that the team that wants it the most usually wins.   I guess that raises the question Who wants it the most?

Question for the Mt. Union guys.

Putting aside Kmic's rushing record and last years Stagg Bowl lost, how would you compare this years team to the previous two years?

I saw the two previous years teams in person and didn't think you could get any better. All I know about this year's team is from reading the post on here and articles in the sport pages and on DIII. Is this team truly better than 06 and 07?

Confirmed: Pam Ward on play by play.

I will tivo just for the possibility of her screwing lots of things up.  I love it.

If you guys have a minute, check out the Pammies on www.awfulannouncing.com.  When you've got an award named after you for on air gaffes, I feel like you made it.

Drinking game for Saturday for those of us not able to make it to Salem...

Join us on the OAC board as we play "WHAT?!?!?! did she just say"

Be on-line in this forum while listening to Pam on TV.  Whenever she makes a ridiculous comment, you post it.  First to post doesn't have to drink, all others do.  Unless all others agree that her comment wasn't wrong, then the poster has to finish his drink.

Kind of like the old Keith Jackson "WHOOAAAAH NELLIE!" game back in the day.  We played that a lot.  I think there is a Brent Musberger drinking game too.

Who's with me?!?!?!

JK

I was right, there is a Brent Musberger Drinking Game.  Here is a link:

I would say that as a group the Offense is better this year.  Shorts may not be as good as athlete as Garcon was, but I think the WR corps are more well rounded.  There were questions about the O-Line, but they have held strong.  Kmic and Micheli, enough said.

The only game I have seen this year is the Wheaton Game Online, but I would say that this Defense is down this year, compared to the last two.  Regular Season competition appears to be down and gave up a lot of yards last weekend, and could have been more with the dropped passes by the Wheaton WRs

No comment on Special Teams, I don't think they have come into play very much this year.  The Special Teams a couple of years ago had some blocks and returns for TDs, so maybe down this year.

I think that this TEAM is playing very well right now though, and may be more focused wanting to get revenge for last years loss.

Speaking of drinking games...did you guys know that the Cleveland Browns play tonight?  If you're looking to stay sober, you could do a shot every time the Browns score.  I think you're safe.

As a whole, this team is not as talented as 06 or 07, but it will be more focused than either of those teams, especially 07.

The 08 skill people are slightly better simply because they are more experienced and the WR core is deeper and more balanced.  The defense is a weaker than those teams due to reduced bulk at DT and LB.  The biggest difference is the O-line.  This O-line has played smart and hard, but it isn't the physically gifted road graders we had in 06 and 07.

But by the same token, I doubt Whitewater is better physically than they were last season either.

In regards to all the predictions about Saturday, what often gets lost in the shuffle as we look back over the last 3 Staggs is how hard fought and even those games were played at the line of scrimmage.  The difference in each game was missed opportunities and mistakes/turnovers.   Each game was very tighly contested and the winner was determined by a handful of plays.  It wasn't like either team completely dominated any of those games.

The 05 game swung on the 3rd quarter goal line stand which was followed seconds later by Kmic's 95 yard TD run.  Also playing a huge role in the outcome was 3 other Whitewater trips deep into MUC territory that came up empty (missed FG, interception and stopped on downs).

The biggest play in the 06 game was the Kostelnik blocked punt that Matt Ress returned 34 yards to extend the MUC lead to 28-13 in the 3rd.  Also key was 3 Whitewater trips into the MUC redzone that resulted in FG's instead of TD's.  The only WWW TD came on a 4 yard drive after the big KO return.

The tone for the 07 game was set by the WWW goal line stand that was originally ruled a TD but was rightfully overturned by replay.  In a reversal from previous games, it was the Raiders that saw missed opportunities be the difference.  Mount had six drives end inside the Warhawks' 35-yard line without points.  Three on downs and three on turnovers.  6 total fumbles sure didn't help keep the chains moving either either.

I obviously hope Mount wins.  I know each team is talented enough to win if things go their way.  I cautiously believe Mount will make enough plays to win.  But anyone expecting a monkey stomp either way hasn't looked at any of the 3 previous Staggs objectively.

I NEVER said anyone was going to beat anyone by 50+ points...please don't put words in my mouth.  What I said was that I COULD SEE Mount scoring 50 points this weekend.  The final score might be MUC 50-WWW49...I never discussed MARGIN OF VICTORY.

BTW...for the uninformed...Anyone who witnessed the '96 Stagg Bowl (I was there in person) witnessed one of the greatest Stagg's ever.  Rowan was LEADING MUC at halftime.  Mount came back and eventually pulled away... and ended up scoring 50+ points.  I just feel that this game will be a slugfest for at least the 1st half with Mount eventually pulling away.  MY OPINION ONLY.

Yes, that's what you said.  My bad.  I had it right the first time I mentioned the scoring.  I'll modify my comment to this:

But I will say that neither team is going to score 50+ points against the other.

And...
I'll still sing praises to your offensive poweress if you do.
