Given all the NCAA poo-poo about mascots offensive to Native Americans, how do we still have Florida State Seminoles, probably one of the most stereotypical and offensive of them all or maybe it's just Bobby Bowden :D

Day one of the NFL off-season for the bad teams and already three head coaches are out.  This might be the year that Josh McDaniels gets a head coaching nod.  He was a hot topic last year but stuck it out.  With the news of Brady being behind schedule and possibly jeopardizing his 2009 season and with the good job he's done with the offense this year, I have to imagine jumping ship might be a good decision.  The only problem is that the Jets and Browns fired former Pats coaches and the Lions are a deathtrap.

Acky

I wonder if any of those NFL teams that have head coaching openings will give Dom Capers another chance.

Look once again for the Browns to look for an assistant coach with no head coaching experience to fill the vacancy. After paying Romeo and Phil for their contract extensions the budget will not allow for much more. Did you ever wonder how much the Browns have in their budget to pay former coaches salaries? It must be staggering. Good trivia question....Since the Browns returned to the league how many coaches were hired and fired with years left on their contracts? How many total years do they pay for coaches not serving the organization anymore? Butch Davis outright quit, and they said they were gonna pay him anyway! Any General Manager and Head Coach who can turn this team around should be Cannonized. Forget the Hall of Fame and send em right to the Vatican. Josh McDaniels would be an idiot to start his head coaching career with this team. Maybe his dad would be interested....he is available. I doubt Dom Capers would be interested in the job either. He got fired from a better job. Why take this one?

And in January of 1963 Art Modell removed Paul Brown as the head coach, and the Browns have never been quite the same since.

Good or bad, Josh McDaniels name is one of a handful of names being thrown around by the press

Small but Slow

Sports talk radio hosts here in the Tampa Bay area are begging for McDaniels to come here as head coach and to bring Scott Pioli with him.  I agree that with the job he has done with the NE offense this year he is probably as hot a commodity as there is, but are the openings available actually better than where he's at?  All three coaches fired yesterday will get good coordinators jobs again, but it will take a while for any of them to get another shot as a head coach.

They might not want a rookie head coach in Denver but with the firing of Shanahan, McDaniels would be given a lot to work with in Denver.  I think wherever Cowher lands (if he does so) will start the domino effect and allow some pieces to fall into place.

Cowher claims he will not coach in 2009. In other words, anywhere but Cleveland. We didn't want him when Pittsburgh wanted him, so why come back now?

The New York papers are reporting that the Browns are going to talk to Eric Mangini.

Keep on trying bud.  You're getting close because process of elimination means you have to be.  There's only two (maybe three) more ways to try.

Thanks for the chuckle though.   ;D

Your welcome RC I'll get this right some time next year ;D

Hurf... I thought we got this figured out, buddy.

Hope everyone is having a great Holiday season.  The only $hitty thing about the Holidays means D3 football is over for the year.

On a side note:  Ohio has two teams in BCS games this year.  I'm trying to get to Miami next week for UC's coming out party.  Whodathunkit??

I,mworking on getting this figured out

A couple of years ago the NY tabloids explicitly had Mangini as Mangenius.

I think this is going to be a good bet.  Pioli as GM in Denver, McDaniels as Head Coach and maybe Crennel as DC.

I believe this is the most attractive job out there and with Bowlen getting rid of Shanahan, who had control over personel and coaching... he's going to hire a GM and then a coach.

There was some talk (on this board) of Ric changing his frontpage from Chuck Moore to Nate Kmic. I think Nate and his 8,000+ yards and 130 TDs has earned it. It would be cool to go to the site and see the clip from the ONU game a couple of years ago (the double spin and down the sideline) in place of Chuck. However, that is all up to Ric (c'mon, you know you want to!).

Happy New Year to all in Raider Nation - and in the OAC - and well everybody else! Don't forget to watch the Music City Bowl for the COY announcement. When does the AFCA announce?

Actually I don't think that would be cool at all.   ;)
