Hot off the presses!  I'm not sure why I received this info in an email today:  Muskingham College history book just released.

Warning: book cover photo shows cheerleaders spreading their legs over the football field.  It may have been considered provocative when it was taken. You can click on it to enlarge.  :o

The first, last and only time they beat the spread.  HI YO!

When would that have been provacative? After exactly how many beers? Rolling Rock or PBR? How close to closing time? How did I get to Muskingum and why? 8)

Was the "rally" held on Monday night also considered the "football banquet"?.....or, is there another event down the road?

I had never heard of Bevo Francis, so I mentioned it to my father who grew up around the Wellsville area. He lit up like a stinking Christmas Tree. He went on and on about how great he was. After all the reminiscing he said "Did he ever play in the NBA?" So you guys were right, he just faded off into the sunset and was even happier that no one knew about it.

Great Story. Thanks for bringing it up everyone!

QuotePoor Jim Tressel. 3rd place in the Ohio coaches poll for coach of the year. My, how the fates have turned. LK was the right choice for #1.  Just glad the rest of the Ohio college coaches saw it that way too. I wonder how Tressel would have placed up in Wisconsin?

Why the Tressel bashing?  I'm sure he is aware of LK's accomplishments and would give kudos to LK given the opportunity.  It seem silly for someone in Ohio to bash Ohio football when we get enough of it right now from the rest of the country.   ;)

I have no problem with Tressel bashing!  ;D

The team event should have already happened. This event has the players around tables in the alumni roon and community membersm staff and alumni stuffle through and get things autographed and a chance to thank your favorite player, followed by cookies and coffee with Joe Tait introducing the past season's highlight reel.

RE: Phoenix Open (Jason Sobel's blog)

We talked about talent before, and I really feel that RC is lucky to be living in Arizona.  Jason Sobel is writing for ESPN out there in a blog this week.  Being that I've been to "The Open", I'm interested in reading this since I'm stuck in 10" of snow here in beautiful Cincinnati.

As for the other question everyone's asking: Yes, fellas, there is a lot of "talent" at 16. These are some of the best in the world. Everybody looks really good out here. There aren't many who lack the assets it takes to compete with their peers. This is where the best of the best convene to test their skills. Everyone is worth keeping an eye on, because you never know when something exciting might happen.

And you can read into that anything you'd like ...
AMC Champs: 1991-1992-1993-1994-1995
HCAC Champs: 2000, 2001

Im not sure whether to congradulate Bo or not. He follows two coaches who kinda threw up their hands and walked away from that program.  Im not sure that it will even be a comfort to Bo that his old teammate is nearby to shoot the breeze with. Jackson and Massillon do not really embrace each other as communities. Its not a rivalry issue either. More of an attitude kind of thing. If the  Jackson folks find out that Balderson pals with Hall, there might be some noses out of joint.  Bo has a tough row to hoe. I hope his patience will prevail. Cynics will say its a plot to ease Massillon into the Federal league after being rebuked in the past. I say Thom McD. wouldnt vote against Massillon anyways. Hes beaten them befrore anyways. ;) Still, its good to see former Mounties getting head coaching jobs....wherever they may be. :)

There are some nasty comments about the "Mount Union thing" by Jackson people in the comments section of the Canton Rep under the "Bo" story. Really bitter about Jeff Morris not getting the job. Dont understand the hostility toward Bo because he's a Raider. Can somewhat understand the upset about their homie not hired but I think it has more to do with being able to produce offense than anything else. Jackson grads count among our best ever at DE Justin Stickley and womens baseketball the Great Suzie Venet, our current head coach.

Since I am somewhat older than most posters,, I can say that I saw Bevo play in high,,I was in East Liverpool, he was Wellsville,,saw him 4 or 5 times,,I remember he was a lot taller than the average guy !!!

In regards to the sweater vest, he is a fine man, honest and runs a first class program.  He has one of the top programs in the USA and he commands a high salary.  Ohio State draws big name recruits and he gets alot of them.  The support of the University is 110%.   Fans as well.  However, in my opinion he has reached the zenith of his coaching ability.  His program will not go to the next level,  finishing the big game with a win.  He clearly has shown this over the last three years.  So we have a good coach but not a great one.  He won one in 2002 on his defense.  Heacock is not the answer.   LK seems to get better with age. At 59 years, the best is yet to come.   This can not be said of the sweater vest.  Hope I am wrong.

Just saw on ONU's website that defensive co-ordinator Stacey Hairston has taken the def.back coaching position with Edmonton of the CFL. Although a tremendous loss for the Polar Bears, what a great opportunity for Coach Hairston.  Stacey was a great coach and even better developer of people. He was the one constant at ONU over the years.  Staffs changed, but Stacey was always there.   If it hadn't been for Coach Hairston, ONU might not even have played the 2003 season.  After the "Kaz" debacle, Stacey was willing to step in and assume the head coaching role and probably should have gotten a chance to assume those duties on a permanent basis.
There hasn't been a better DB coach than Coach Hairston, in the OAC, in recent years.  All one needs to do is look at the number of his players who have been all OAC, All-American or have played professionally to realize what an outstanding football mind he is.
Best of luck to Coach Hairston, "Go Eskimos"!

I agree.  Tressel is a great man and a very good coach.

Wish he was a great coach, but I'm OK with very good.  I'd love to see Tressel take the OSU program to the very top on a consistent basis, but overall I'm glad he's in Columbus.  How soon we forget what OSU was like under John Cooper and Earl Bruce.
