So the next trivia question is:

Who was the other freshman QB that Borchert battled for the starting spot his freshman year?

I can't find it and don't hold me to the correct spelling of his name but I believe his last name was Yursich. If my memory serves me correctly, he and Borchert were both freshman in 1994 and shared QB duties for the 1st 4 or 5 games till Bill took over the QB job permanently.

That name sounds right.  I believe he was also a very good baseball player.

Was it this guy:

Homecoming for Scots' Yurcich

I had no idea whatever happened to him.  Maybe we could have some more "what are they doing now" moments.  Since we are in this era what is Bill Borchert doing now?  How about other former raiders?

I don't think this is him:

Bill Borchert

EDIT:  But this is probably him:  Software Salesman

great news for Raider fans...Joe Millings DE has been granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA.
Apparently he was injured his freshman year and has been granted another year.  This brings back the fine tandem of DE's, with James Herbert on the other side..

That means Nine out of the Eleven starters on Defense are returning next year:
Sophomores - 2
Juniors - 7 (including Millings)
Seniors - 2

Only losses are Yoder and Ely.

Based on the Stagg Bowl Two Deep here are the 2nd Teamers from last year:
Freshmen - 3
Sophomores - 2
Juniors - 4
Seniors - 2

Getting back 18 out of the top 22 Defenders will help out in the early season while the Raiders break in a new QB and RB.
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

2008 MUC Offensive Starters:
Juniors: 6
Seniors: 5

Losing Micheli, Bird, Summers, Reynolds and Kmic.

2008 MUC Backups (based on Stagg Roster):
Sophomores:  2
Juniors:  7
Seniors:  2

Losing Bruney and Stokey.

Numbers aren't too bad but losing the Big Two is obviously the main off-season project.  Still get Shorts and Petruziello back at WR and returning 3/5 O-linemen with all 5 backup O-linemen returning.
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

Wow.  I knew Ballard "bulked up" a little after college, but who you've have expected Borchert to go south so soon?

Isn't Terrance coming back? I heard he was working hard to play next season...liked his hard-nosed running!

Another Lefty to follow Micheli.

If the young man earns the starting nod, the game vs. Capital will feature Assman vs. Seaman at QB.
