I know the offseason is slow and painful so I was wondering...

Has anyone ever thought maybe Mount should move up a division or two?  It seems like a fresh idea that mights start some conversation.

;D

Agitator! :D

Word is Mount will move up to DII when Wooster plays them in a regular season game.

Maybe Woo will get a new coach that wants to improve their program like WW did.  You never know.

Did Mount and Wooster ever play? If so, during what years and what were the outcomes?

Between 1902 and 1991 Mount Union and Wooster played 71 times.  Wooster leads the series 37-30-4.

You might say Wooster quit while they were ahead.  :D

I'd rather make a road trip to Wooster instead of wherever Fisher is located........

I made the trip to Wooster in 1990.  I was the only player to not get into the game.  I was the 4th string QB at the time.  All I remember is stopping at a Steak House on the way home and how the showers flooded the locker-room.

I have met the coach at Wooster and seems like a class guy. I really don't get it, a natural rivalry, little travel expense. If he thinks the disparity between the two programs is that great, he shouldn't be coaching.

Well this is old news on this board, but he has made it VERY clear he wants nothing to do with Mount unless it's a playoff game.

As everyone knows who has read my posts regarding this subject previously....I would LOVE to see a home/home series with St. John (NOT the fisherettes).  If not them, let's go to Oregon and smack on those pretenders that are Linfield.  I know..not likely to happen with the travel cost involved.

Maybe it has occurred to Wooster that it and Mount Union are not in the same league, literally and figuratively.

It was an even greater natural rivalry 60-70 years ago when fans from either team could ride a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train about 45 minutes to the game. Both towns still had active bus lines with Alliance's Parkway line coming within 3 blocks of the stadium. Raider66 and I rode my grandfather's train, the Manhatten Limited back from a Wooster game when I was visiting while in high school.

Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Trust me when I say that Rochester isn't a bad town  to visit, even if it is an additional 4 hours of travel compared with playing Wooster.  If you really want the trip to Fisher to be memorable, go to Nick Tahau's and get a Garbage Plate at some point during the trip.  There's also some decent microbrew's out of Rochester, and some other good hangouts.  The boys (and the sister) over on the E8 board will be great hosts for the trip.  While I haven't met them personally, I know they'll be happy to make sure it's a great trip for any Mount Union fan venturing that way this year.  Visit the board, then find them on "Saterday".

Jaypete:  Thanks for the information.....I'm sure to be asking more when the date gets closer.  We will be making the trip.  My point was that it just doesn't make sense, especially in today's economic times, to make the trip to Rochester when there are so many non-league D-III colleges in Ohio that would make a good home/home situation.  These kids know each other from high school, and the expenses would be much less, and the crowds larger.  Oh well, the MUC mystique is a tough one to overcome.  However, if I was a coach at one of these schools, I would want to schedule the best.  Then, we could show our team what it takes to be compared to MUC.  Maybe we get our butt kicked, but we lined up against the best.  When I coached at Bowling Green, we used to point to the big non-league games against Michigan State, Michigan, Baylor (who was good back in the day), etc......and tell our kids that they would learn and improve from the experience.  It was a recruiting tool....."you'll play in the Big House"

By the way....heard on ESPN radio that the Colts will release Marvin Harrison in the near future.  Wonder what this means for Mr. Garcon??
