Thanks Purpled it is good to see Chad Reynolds get some recognition, he had a fine career at Mount Union. I disagree with Stewart being on the second team. He was great all year and IMO the best db on the Raiders team.

Stewart has been solid.  However, in my humble opinion, McClain has been the most consistent and the biggest playmaker in the secondary.

Small but Slow

Sadly, the Coast Guard suspended the search for the three men who remain missing in the Gulf of Mexico.  http://tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/article980720.ece

The St. Pete Times had several articles chronicling the events of the ordeal as well as stories about the men and their families.  Several guys I work with go out in the gulf regularly and have almost been capsized themselves.  It's not exactly the Bering Sea but it can turn ugly in a hurry.

It's all been so surreal.  Marquis' mom works with my wife here in AZ.  She was at our daughter's first birthday party all afternoon and into Saturday evening.  We talked about the Cardinals, NFL free agency, the new contract Marquis had signed with Oakland and his prospects for 2009.  All the while, tragedy was unfolding on the Gulf unbeknownst to us.  She left our party to go to another evening event and I'm told she was beaming about Marquis there too.  We can take some solace in knowing how much she and Bruce loved their son and how proud they are of his accomplishments.

I will never forget opening my laptop Sunday afternoon and having Marquis' picture staring back at me on Yahoo's main news feed.  That's something you just don't expect.  EVER.

The odds of a couple NFL guys being lost at sea are so slim.  The odds of knowing one personally are astronomical.  And the fact that Cory and Marquis weren't household names makes this even more unique.  One thing I've realized is that the details matter so much more when you're personally invested in the outcome.  We have read literally every news report that has rolled in and heard details the general public haven't and it's all so incredibly hard to understand.  One news agency erroneously reported Marquis was rescued shortly after Schuyler and it was then retracted.  I can't imagine hearing that news taken back if I was part of the family.

It's just tragic and has really hit closer to home than I could ever imagine.  We were eating birthday cake around the time the guys started having trouble and were none the wiser.  It's just hard to swallow.

There was a local Fisherman (Captain) on the radio this morning who recently met Cooper at his business.  They had planned on some future fishing trips and the Captain had prompted Cooper to purchase one of those E-perp (sp?) devices that activates a location beacon when it gets wet.  Unfortunately Cooper was unable to purchase one prior to the fishing trip on Saturday.

PLease let her know that there are a lot of people out here who extend our condolences.  My prayers (and a lot of others' here) went out for those young men, but it appears that only one was meant to be found.  It's a sad loss and a reminder of the power of the sea.

BY all accounts I read, Marquis seemed like a good guy with his head on straight.  Hope mom and dad can eventually find some comfort in knowing they raised a good man.

James Meyer Named Defensive Coordinator at Baldwin-Wallace College
Wednesday, March 4th @ 8:09 PMpost viewed 25 times

BEREA, OHIO – Baldwin-Wallace College Head Football Coach John Snell has selected James M. Meyer as his new Defensive Coordinator. He succeeds Adam Howard, who left B-W in February to accept the head coaching position at NCAA Division II Notre Dame College (of Ohio).

Meyer joins a B-W football program which finished the 2008 campaign at 5-5 overall and had its 42nd season with a .500 or better record in the last 43 years.  He inherits a Yellow Jacket defense that returns seven starters and allowed 328.5 yards per game to rank fifth last season in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

"Jim has a proven track record as a solid teacher of the game of football and as a football coach," said Snell, who enters his eighth season as head coach at B-W and has compiled a fine 46-26 career record.  "Jim has served as a head coach and in a number of other capacities during his career and we feel that he will be an outstanding addition to our staff.

"Jim knows the state of Ohio well and has recruited Northeast Ohio for many years," said Snell.  "We feel that his knowledge of the game of football, his leadership and ability to attract quality young men to the College will be his strengths.  We look forward to working with him."

Meyer, a 1978 graduate of the University of Akron, comes to B-W after a one-year stint as the Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at Division II Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Meyer's special teams unit finished third in the nation in kickoff return average at 25.89 yards-per-return. He also coached two linebackers to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors on a defense that ranked second in the GLIAC.

Prior to Wayne State,  Meyer was the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Division II Ashland University from 2004 to 2008. His defense ranked seventh in the nation in 2005 at 265.8 ypg. He helped lead the 2007 squad to an 8-1 record and a spot in the NCAA Division II National Playoffs.

Meyer has twice coached defensive ends at his alma mater, including mentoring now NFL All-Pro Jason Taylor in 1996. He has also made stops in the collegiate ranks at Malone College from 2001-02, Kenyon College from 1987-94 and Bethany (W.Va.) College from 1982-87. While at Kenyon, Meyer served as head coach and was named North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1989.

Meyer also spent time as Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School from 1997 to 2001. His first coaching job was as a graduate assistant at the University of Akron in 1976.

Meyer graduated from St. Vincent-St. Mary in 1973 and received  his Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education from Akron.  He also earned his Master of Science in P.E. degree from Akron in 1981. As a player, Meyer was the co-captain of Akron's 1976 squad that finished national runner up in Division II.

Not a problem, just thought I would mention it before Pat did.  Thanks for the info.

So does all this mean that BW's new D-Coord once coached Lebron James?  I'm sure that will be big for the Yellow Jackets.

It has been almost 3 months since Mount clinched title number X and yet "THE" premier D3 football site still has the raissed Warhawk helmet. A change is in order!!! Thanks Pat.

I have to step in for Pat before he even sees this and remind you that you're requesting a change of header in the middle of the tournament aka the busiest time of Pat's DIII life.  Sometimes it's helpful to remember that this isn't Pat's full-time job and that Pat might have things more pressing than the football header to worry about in the middle of Division III March Madness.

He will get to it when he gets to it.  Cut the man some slack.

Any intel on MUC's RB recruits?

I can't believe BW is hanging onto that tagline about 42 years of average football, of course Wittenburg is still telling recruits it is the King of D3 Football. :D :D :D

Given the low scoring games Mount has had against BW in the past 15 years, I'm glad they have a new D-coordinator.
