Small but Slow

The Culter/McDaniels situation doesn't appear to sit well with Pat Bowlen, the Broncos owner.  He brought in new blood to shake things up and is getting what he paid for.  If Cutler is a pro then he'll settle down, prepare for the season and do his job.  If not he'll end up somewhere else.  To me it seems McDaniels is trying to assert himself and create an atmosphere of competition where nobody should feel his job is safe.  The Broncos haven't been to the playoffs in a couple years and no player on that team should feel entitled to a starting job just for showing up in camp.

The only issue I have with the way McDaniels had handled it is that the first "make-up" meeting was on a conference call.  Now that may have been what had to happen because of Cutler and his terrible-two tantrum mentality but the fact they didn't meet first face to face to air their grievances (FESTIVUS?) is problematic.  It's  shame Cutler doesn't understand this is a business.  If every pro could act this way when the mgmt talked trades with the other teams, we would never be able to play this game.  I feel for McDaniels because if media never got a hold of the hypothetical three-way deal that fell through, then he wouldn't be dealing with this crap but he has made mistakes in dealing with it as well and will learn from it.

A professional looks at trade rumors and says it's good to know that other teams would trade away to bring you in.  That's the lesson Cutler needs to learn.  There will no doubt be dozens more trade proposals in his career and if his backside gets sore over each and every one of him, he has a lot of issues to be concerned about.

Given that Cutler comes from Vandy, hardly a hot bed for NFL talent, I'm surprised by his diva mentality.  I hope McDaniels can weather the storm and strike a blow for Ohio football.  It's nice to be able to point out the successful coaches that have and continue to come from the Buckeye state.  Here in the Sunshine state many seem to think of it as the center of the football universe.  I like to point out the roots of Urban Meyer and ask how many great coaches have come out of this state.  Florida may be a source for great talent, but Ohio has definitely cornered the market on producing top coaches.

McDaniels can either spend a couple of seasons teaching Cutler his system or else bring in someone who is already on the same page/level and jump start the team. Cutler is toast. If there was a willing buyer for his talents, then he would be gone already and Denver would be announcing their new guy. Wasnt Brady Quinn rumored to be trade bait recently? HMMMMM! Wach the Browns try to buy this guys contract at a discount and start all over again with another QB. It IS a BUSINESS ya know!  >:(

If I were a GM or head coach, I would not want a player that has shown the immaturity that Cutler has shown.  I am so sick of these players, so spoiled by money and celebrity, think that a world cannot function without them...Ask Michael Vick how much his absence meant to the Hawks and the NFL....Grow up Cutler, you are not that special...

You're thinking of the Atlanta Mucaws that play in a developmental badminton league down South.   ;)

The first "meeting" you are speaking about was Cutler's idea.  He and his agent orchestrated that to be over the phone.  Cutler wouldn't come in and meet.

Echoing what hscoach said... Cutler is acting like a huge doucher here.  I mean seriously.  Its not like this is an isolated incident either.  He's well-known for being a moody SOB.  He does have a strong arm, but the guy hasn't won a thing in the NFL.  He hasn't even led the Broncos to the playoffs yet, despite being surrounded with great talent -- too many interceptions in the big games late in the year.   I believe he's typical of the athletes who are coddled.  He was Mr. Quarterback in High School in Indiana and then was a one-man show at Vandy... he's always been told he's great and this is what has resulted from that.

On a funny sidenote, I don't know if any of you watch South Park but he was featured on an episode called "Guitar Queer-o" (available on youtube).  During this "show", the main characters told him he sucked.  His reaction was to say it was pretty funny -- but you know it ate him up, and I think thats great.

He did throw for around 4,500 yards last year and 25 TD's...It's hard to lead if no one wants to follow.
