I know MUC recently discussed and voted on this change and it was overwhelmingly turned down.

Would be weird. MUU or UMU or The College at Mount Union University.

Hey!  MUU could have a new line of co-ordinated apparel for its alums.

One could add a "Raiders" logo to this beautiful MUU muumuu.  It does come in purple (as well as turquoise and fuchsia).

reality check

We already have a University that looks extremely weird when abbreviated in Ohio.  Urbana has always looked strange to me with the "UU" so "MUU" would be about the same.

And then you guys could get rid of the MUCaw and have a big dairy cow for a mascot and all the fans could drone on with the "Moo" sound every time you score.  I think we should really push this forward into the planning stages.

That would really work if they had the "Omega Moo's" of Revenge of Nerds Fame there on campus..

All this talk of MUU is giving me flashbacks to my days of feeding the cows before heading to school.  Yuck.

Jeannette's Baradziej chooses Mount Union

By Paul Schofield
PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Saturday, April 11, 2009

Cameron Baradziej spent two seasons at Jeannette High School watching Terrelle Pryor quarterback the Jayhawks to consecutive WPIAL Class AA titles and a PIAA title.

Even though those shoes were difficult to fill, Baradziej did an admirable job in leading the Jayhawks to the WPIAL Class AA semifinals for the third consecutive season.

Now, Baradziej will take his game west. He's decided to attend Mount Union College, which has won 10 of the past 15 NCAA Division III titles.

He'll be a quarterback and punter.

"I wanted to get away from home, and Mount Union seemed like the right fit," Baradziej said. "I liked the campus, and the coaching staff is giving me an opportunity."

New Jeannette coach Roy Hall, who served as the quarterbacks coach, said Baradziej is a hard worker and should take an advantage of his opportunity.

"Cameron has a strong arm and can get better with a little work," Hall said. "He has a good work ethic."

Baradziej selected Mt. Union over Seton Hill.

excerpts from the Star Beacon (Ashtabula, OH) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge
Apr. 8

Madison senior Terrance Harmon likes a challenge. He also loves football. So when he realized his 6-foot, 235-pound frame wasn't going to get him to Ohio State for a career with the Buckeyes, he chose the next-best thing.

A national power in its own right, a place he knows he'll be pushed to his limits.

Harmon, the son of John and Katrina Harmon, has decided to play football while attending Mount Union College.

"I can't wait," Harmon said. "I'm really excited for it. I had been to a lot of other colleges. When I went to Mount Union, I had a certain feeling. It was a feeling that I fit in. I went to a workout there. It's a place where they'll help me be all I can be.

"If you're not going to go Division I and go to Ohio State, you've got to go to Mount Union," he said.

Harmon developed an interest in the Purple Raiders as a sophomore because of the way former offensive line coach Shane Brennan used to talk of his playing days for the Purple Raiders.

"The last year and a half I've been real interested, well, since my sophomore year, actually," Harmon said. "Coach Shane was our line coach for a year and he told us how much fun it was when he played at Mount Union. I love the thrill of competition. With as many kids as go there (to play football), it will only fuel my love for competition. It's not just their winning ways, it's the way they treat players, too.

"They treat everyone well. There are no favorites from what I've seen.  I love the way (Mount Union) treats everybody. That's what I want to be a part of." A center and defensive lineman for the Blue Streaks, Harmon is happy to be joining the Purple Raiders, a team that takes great pride in the way it runs the football.

"I looked at Ashland and Thiel," Harmon said. "For a while, I tried to see if I could get into OU, but I didn't feel comfortable there. I don't think they'd have taken me anyway. I looked at John Carroll and Malone University. Mount Union just felt good to me.
The Purple Raiders are considering Harmon for the defensive side of the football, where his size will suit him, but if he gets the choice, he'd like to play offense. Not that he'd be too picky either way.

"They talked to me about the defensive line," Harmon said. "I'd like to continue playing center, but I'd love to play anywhere that best helps them. I'd even play punt returner or punter." Either way, Harmon is just about the right size for both jobs.

"I was about 265 during football season but I went down to about 215 for wrestling," Harmon said. "Some things about that are bad, but some things are good. It helped my agility."

Harmon will pursue a degree in either teaching or criminal justice while at the school in Alliance.

Sounds like he had an agonizing decision...  ::)

His Coach makes it sound like he's going to be a project at the Mount.  Hope he sticks out 4 years and gets the double degree being offered (Kehres Football and whatever major he chooses)

Several years ago, Findlay College (FC) made the decision to move to "university status" (whatever that means) and were immediately confronted with the possibility of becoming known as Findlay University, or simply "FU".  In spite of the marketing coup that could have occurred, cooler heads prevailed and they became known as the University of Findlay.  The "UF" logo created a lot less controversy, and considerably less sales in the bookstore.....

hscoach,

Does it seem to you MUC is having a good year recruiting? Not that Tyrell Pryor's back up  is necessarilly any good but it might be that he will win a national title before Tyrell does? Unless Tyrell wants to transfer????? ;D

The only difference I see in this recruiting class is that Lenny Reich (the new SID) is being more proactive on getting the information out.

And it's a pretty safe bet that Tyrell's backup has a better chance at a ring than Tyrell does.

Speaking of that, where did the previous SID go? He did an excellant job and had a better writing style than Lenny. No offense but have you read his write-ups?
I do appreciate Lenny's posting of recruits for sure.

IMHO, you're selling Lenny way too short.  He's much easier to work with and is very proactive in getting the MUC product out to the masses.  The Sportstime Ohio TV broadcasts and our radio web feeds are because of his vision and hard work.  Neither of those would have been even considered, let alone possible, under the old guard.

As a member of the working media dealing with the SID office very closely, Lenny is running a great ship.   The gameday/press box operations are especially night and day ahead of the previous regime.

In terms of the writing style, I'm the wrong guy to critique anyone.  I'm an engineer by trade and my English/writing skills are marginal at best. ;)

Just in case you missed it...

It's probably the highlight of an otherwise boring hump day that MUC just got a recruit who's the son of Rodney King.

"Can't we all just get along?"

On another note, where does Lenny send this info?  Is it posting to a site other than MUC.edu?  I had looked once before and didn't see this stuff on any official Mount website but I could easily be wrong.
