Not to be too cliche but a team is only as strong as its weakest link.

Coach G and I were going to watch the Mitchell Spring Game last night and were at Beef O' Brady's before the game.  Game was cancelled and Mitchell coaches started coming in to Beefs.  The slogan on the back of their T-Shirts was:

A team is only as strong as its weakest link.
Ironic!  They are big on slogans.  Our spring game is next Thursday.  Should be interesting with only 13 or 14 real players on each team.  Mitchell is playing there game next Wednesday.  I'll be there in my new green wardrobe.

In case anyone cares:

Following the 2008 season, my HC was unceremoniously relieved of his duties despite delivering our first playoff appearance in seven years and really turning a dead program around.  He moved on and while I would have greatly enjoyed moving with him as an assistant, things didn't work out because of geography and logistics.  He did write me a letter of rec. that helped me get in the door in a new school district near my home and I have been substitute teaching since January.

In the fall we will open a new high school that is top notch and we are fielding a Frosh and JV team.  As of right now, it looks like I will be taking part in a teacher-in-residence program at the HS and will at least be the Offensive Coordinator for the freshmen and maybe HC as well.  I'm extremely excited about the opportunity and looking forward to building a legacy with these kids.  I've always been involved with historic programs from my own days at CJ to ONU and then coaching at Tempe HS (one of the few HS's in AZ that's over 100 years old).  Opening a new school will be a challenge but I can't wait to take it head on!
Starting a new program is an exciting opportunity.  Just like Kirasdad said, stick to your guns, stick with what you believe, and do what you think is right you'll have fun.  I hope to have that opportunity someday myself.  Keep us abreast on how things are going and best wishes!

Congrats and good luck.

One of the best thigns I learned from the old guy I played for and then coached for was to "think before you speak".  Especially when dealing with the parents and the administration.  The kids will accept an apology or will blowoff an outburst, but the parents/admin will never forget.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Very True.  My father has coached at all levels of Football and I asked him for advice last year when dealing with parental issues.  This was his response:

Quote from: Kirasdad's DadJust think everything through before making a decision.  Consider the Team and how it affects them, the individual and how it affects them. School policies, you have to adhere to them. You will never be completely right for everyone, but make sure as best you can that you are right for the Team, the Player and you follow school policies.  Parents only consider their child.  You have to consider everyone.  With a sound decision, you can sleep at night.  Make sure you have sound reasons to back up your decisions, and have no fear of anyone.  Make as few rules as possible, because rules are meant to be broken and when they do, you have to discipline them fairly. You can't treat your stars differently than 3rd teamers. It is a Challange!!  BUT, it is the greatest Team sport ever invented!!!

G and I are planning on attending both.  Hudson's game is next Saturday as well.

Your fathers advice is good advice whether you are coaching a team, the LPO of your division in the Navy, a Scout leader, supervisor at work, teacher etc.

A Mark Twain quote that has stuck with me for a while now is, "Don't regard my silence as lack of knowledge or opinion.  Consider it discretion, for anything I may speak in haste only may expose my ignorance."

May not have the quote 100% but think the sentiment is accurate.  In other words, silence is golden, duct tape is silver.

First of all the rumors of my demise were premature to say the least, although the pain in my everyday life has a way of taking over everything. I got asked to retire and at 61, I guess thats not so bad. I'll be picking up SSAN hours at the Hartville "Lake YMCA" through December.

I am for now still coaching CC and Track as well as doing conditioning for our new 8th grade football team.

If you requested a Garcon rookie card from me, they are in envelopes ready to mail tomorrow. Sorry, it's taken me a while to "come in off the ledge." I have offers from three other school systems, but my heart is still here. I really don't want to quit, but my body is telling otherwise.

I, more than most people, know how disgusting a closet full of purple and green can be.

Seventies - I don't know the circumstances surrounding your system forcing you to retire, but in my district a hc at the same school for 33 years was forced to retire this year.  To prove that there's no bias towards sports the middle school math teacher of the year is also being forced out.  Anything to save a buck, I guess.  I hope things work out well for you and am sorry to learn of the pain this caused you.
I'm going from 13 years of black & gold to the cross-town rival in green.  While accumulating some green gear I've been wearing my purple to practice this spring.  Personally, I think purple & green go well together.

RC-

you see the bachelorette last night?

My company is no longer hyping my coworker on the show.  He's still on there but talked about tying someone to a tree and beating them, about someone needing to drown himself -- and how a man code was broken because the guy poured out his shot and acted like he drank it.

He still moved on to next week -- but looks like he causes more trouble and is probably gone.  He's taking a beating on Entertainment Weekly as being a bully and whatnot.

What did he say that was so bad?  I don't get it.  The closest I've come to watching the Bachelor was the episode of "Family Guy" where Brian was a contestant.  I did watch the first couple episode of "American Idol" a few years back when my buddy from back home's wife made it to LA.  He also got some face time explaining why he didn't want her to go.  Bloggers crucified him for his comments as well.  It's cool seeing a friend on national tv, especially when they are villainized by the viewers.
