Honestly, I don't know why I even looked but Kenyon has kids from 16 states including Ohio (2 from DC)

BTW I can say this now that the school year is winding down: NATEKMIC has made a bulletproof password for the last two years
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

reality check

Here's a head-scratcher...

Hiram has 9 states on it's roster (not astronimical but...)

12 from Georgia
5 from Florida

That's almost 20% of their roster.  It appears the coaches have quite an array of states they are assigned to recruit but the most impressive part is that they got 5 kids from FL without having a coach assigned to recruit that state.  I guess the lure of becoming a Terrier is just so strong it sells itself.

Lookout SEC schools.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

Small but Slow and I spoke with Coach Kehres at the Stagg bowl (night before at the reception) and he said that there is a Recruiting Fair in FL each year that they send a representative to.  That may be how other schools are getting FL recruits also.

Not too hard to be in the top 10% of your class in North Georgia   ;D

Some schools have out of state players because the school attracts out of state students, not because of their recruiting.  For example, on Oberlin's roster of 45 players in 2008, 11 states were represented, and only 18 of the 45 players were from Ohio.  This most likely is due to Oberlin's enrollment being 90% out of state rather than Oberlin football recruiting all over the country. :)

Given the recent posts, not sure if I should be proud that we are still trying to win with "home-grown" talent, or if we are missing the boat on recruiting a litttle bit ???

I tend to prefer to see teams utilize home-grown talent -- though I fully acknowledge that could be seen as an antiquated view in this day and age.  :)

Of course, there's nothing wrong with having some strong recruiting pipelines in other areas/states, but I personally feel that it is more genuine at the D3 level to have a team built around kids from your own back yard.

I could care less what state the kid is recruited from, as long as he was recruited directly out of HIGH SCHOOL.  It's the transfers, especially the guys with only a year left, from out of the area that I can't stand.   It simply rings of "mercenary" to me.

So, if Piloto ends up the starting QB for the Raiders you will boycott the games? ;)

Boycott and give up my cushy seat in the box?  No.

But I would prefer that he was HS recruited talent when he hoists the Walnut & Bronze for titles 12 and 13 ;D

Cushy??  You mean squshy!!

There's like 17 radio/tv broadcast teams for a MUC game.   But you two are the most organized that I saw..
AMC Champs: 1991-1992-1993-1994-1995

Most organized?  By that, I assume you mean, Ric does a great job with the broadcast and hscoach does a great job when it comes to effectively attacking the press box food spread.

hscoach,

I guess you take some solace in the fact that Piloto WAS recruited out of high school as a senior... although he "shunned MUC, ONU and other small schools in that process".

If you had read about Piloto and his background you would have found out he will be coming into Mount with 2-3 years minimum and maybe 4 years of eligibility. This would hardly qualify him as a "mercenary" as you infer with your response to HS Coach. It is also know that LK was recruiting him right out of high school but Piloto chose to try a prefered walk on situation at USF. It is not clear whether he ever participated in practices and surely not in any games.

So I'm with HS Coach...gimme a front row seat! ;D I also know who he might be refering to when he mentioned "mercenary". The guy didn't even have to change his name to conceal his identity.....he was already Mr. Jones! ::)

The last impact transfer we've had came in as a true sophomore with three good years to give and that worked out OK. Can you say Pierre? ;)

He maybe a Mercenary, but if he's our mercenary we'll cheer for him.

Actually any mercenary who only gets "paid"  after mowing grass or working in the library, needs to find another career path. ::)

Just a note about a great cause being undertaken by one of our own D3 guys Adam Johnson. He is the columnist in the fall for D3 West region. He is running for man of the year for the local Caner Society and his votes are the $ he raises.  I attended the event this evening and there was great response from here. I have attached his post wih the link to the site which will explain in better detail. You can make your donations there and hopefully the OAC can respond and help a good cause. He has already heard from some of the posters from the West Coast.

For those of you in the twin cities looking for Summit Beer, food from Saint Paul restaurants and the opportunity to win fun prizes from Saint Paul busineses, come over to the Summit Brewery tonight for my benefit event for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  $25 donation at the door.  Rumor has it TDT will be lurking looking for easy prey!

Details at www.HelpAdamCureCancer.com  If you can't attend and want to make a contribution, you can do so at the website as well!

The poster child is a 6 year old boy and he has leukemia. Tomorrow morning he goes in for his monthly chemotherapy. He has a permanent port in his chest to take the IV treatment. He usually can't eat for two days after the treatment and his daily regiment usually includes 16 pills.  His attitude was amazing and you never would suspect he was so sick.

If you have a few spare bucks Adam could use your help.

Thanks,

'Mercenary' also struck me as quite the wrong word for a d3 athlete - a mercenary is in it for the money!

I'm not sure what term really works, but a d3 player going to a team in hopes of a title strikes me as more like Marian Hossa giving up many, many millions of dollars to sign with the Red Wings because he thought he'd have a better shot at Lord Stanley's Cup there than with the Penguins.  (We'll see within a couple of weeks if he was right or really, really dumb! ;))

Of course, in Pittsburgh they have lots of terms for Hossa, but none of them is 'mercenary'! ;D

HScoach

Use whatever term you like, but in my mind Gus Ornstein = Mercenary.
