Pat, I think the question is how you can predict three offensive All-Americans coming from a team that went 7-4 last year, scoring a total of 288 points in 11 games.  One of the projected All-Americans, the QB, isn't even listed as a "returning starter" according to the Monmouth website.  As far as I'm concerned, there were several UWW linemen that should be included......(and, at the risk of sounding like a "homer", maybe just one MUC??)

I suspect you haven't done your homework very well. Our Monmouth is a D-III school in Illinois, not a I-AA school in New Jersey.

For the record, the Otterbein pressbox was fine once the windows were "opened".  The problem was the 5 mile hike to get to the actual field for the pregame stuff.

I realize I'm "honing" in here during the middle of this discussion, so please forgive me for that as well as my stupidity.  :)  Yet, I sense some "hostility" towards Otterbein in regards to their stadium based on the previous comments by several.  Having been on their campus (when our oldest daughter was considering going to that college as well as knowing of a very prominant current DI assistant coach who played there), I am a bit confused, even with the new more recent renovations of the stadium (although did they somehow not improve in that department with respect to their pressbox??)...you mention the "5 mile hike to the field" - how is that when the football stadium is right in the middle of the campus and there is some parking within reason? ??? Or...is the latter in fact the problem you are referring to (in addition to the pressbox "thing") i.e. major parking areas away from the field and having to walk some distance to get there?? ??? ??? ::)  Just curious! ;D

I can't imagine how hard it is for Pat & Co. to come up with a list of a fraction of the guys in D3.  But, granted, anyone in your (Pat) position has to take some heat. It comes with the territory. Great job nonetheless.

In any event, I'm enjoying reading the boards. I'm in Cbus taking the Ohio bar and football season sounds sooo good right now.

I guess we OAC folk expect more from visitor sides than they do in the east.  Portable metal bleachers do not constitute a visitor stands.  We do have portable metal stands used at games but it's overflow seating when the existing permanent stands are not enough to accommodate the total capacity of all spectators.  Even at the D-III level, portable stands should not be considered adequate seating.

I too am an OAC alum and will be proudly wearing my purple come september 5th at st john fisher. What you gotta remember that football is a different beast in New York. There are just as many high school games on saturday afternoons as there is on friday nights. Its blasphemy in ohio, but only about 50% of the high schools, if not less have lights for the football field. A big college football game is filling the carrier dome with 58 thousand people, now the 100,000 at the shoe. Football might not be the same but we can put our high school lacrosse and hockey teams up against the best ohio has to offer

My bad.......sometimes "Google" is the devil.  Pat, I really appreciate all you do for this site.  Without it, I would be spending much more time "at work".

The hike comment was in reference to there being no direct connection from the pressbox to the actual playing field.  To access the field for the pre-game interview with LK you had to exit the pressbox into the parking lot, walk around the stadium to the endzone gate in the fence, prove to the idiots manning the gate that your press pass was in fact legit and that you weren't trying to sneak into the stadium, etc......

There were other issues with Otterbein that day that really pissed off a lot of fans that day that didn't affect me.

First being their official release that there was no pre-sale tickets and no standing room only.  What they were saying all week was the tickets would be sold on a first-come/first serve basis and once the seating capacity was reached, you were screwed.  So there were quite a few people that didn't make the trip from Alliance because they were afraid of driving 2 hours and not getting in.  However once the fans arrived on site, they realized that pre-sale was sold only locally and that most seats were general admission with tons of standing-room-only available as necessary.

Second was their ushers very rudely running anyone wearing purple out of the GENERAL ADMISSION seating area on the home side.  The visitor side would seat maybe 200 people and the stands were so short you couldn't see over the team standing on the sideline so the only viable visitor seating was in the general admission areas at the ends of the home stands.  It's one thing to politely tell someone that "this is the home side", but to physically escort opposing fans out of general admission seats is crazy.

Third being the Rafferty and Co dance in front of the MUC bench during pre-game.  I was very surprised that didn't get ugly.

In general, they were not prepared, nor did they want to deal with the extra attention and people that came with playing MUC with a conference title on the line.  The attitude of contempt that day was very clear.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

The best way to describe the visitor bleachers at Otterbein is "middle-schoolesque".  No offense to any middle schools that have seating for more than 200 folks.....

Hence, one of the reasons we at Capital, um, strongly dislike Otterbein.

I have always gotten the impression that Otterbein thought themselves "better" than the rest of the OAC schools (especially Capital).  Their attitude has always been, in a manner of speaking, NCAC-ish.

JK, as someone who lives in Columbus I will second this statement.  I'm still not sure why, but the vibe is definitely out there.  In the business world in this city I've crossed paths with far more Cap grads because of their law school and MBA program so I was ignorant to this perception.

"For the first time since 2006, there are no Mount Union quarterbacks on the preseason All-American team. Unless that quarterback is last year's receiver." by our fearless leader from the front page.

No running back or o-line either. I guess the defense is going to have to pitch a few shut outs! ;)

As speculated if Cecil Shorts III is the QB would that have changed anything on that list?

Also if Troney Shumpert has to be on the list at least he is on the second team after he was schooled in the Stagg last year. ::)

Boy, I figured those guys at St John's would have more updated info being the big time program they are.  Are you playing them this year also?

In Shumpert's defense...I don't think there's a corner in DIII that can keep up with Shorts one on one.
