Does anyone think we could see a rotation system at RB like back in the Lantos/Gorius/Evans era?  Maybe we could see something similar w/ Morring/Panchik/Urbania?  I know Thomas is still there as well, and there was a young kid last year too (Harris?) so they seem to have a lot of depth.

Depth has not been a problem since 1993--I remember rotating two freshman quarterbacks and still having a heck of a year!

Do you mean 1994?  Fall of 1993 was the first National Championship with Ballard at QB.

I just meant that there have been plenty of players at most all of the positions since at least '93--I am aware that the rotating quarterbacks were after that.  I had Jim in class in '93.

Oh.  Was Jim a good student?

He did fine in my class--but that may have been, at least in part, because his girlfriend was also in the class. (I don't think theatre class was real high on his list of favorites.)  I have had quite a few of the players in my classes and have found that the ones who are very successful on the field are usually also pretty successful in the classroom--not all of them, but I would say most.

Division II scholarship at Findlay......$30,000/year

National Championship ring at MUC (and bragging rights forever)......Priceless
A full scholarship to D2 schools for football is pretty rare.  I think they are limited to 25-30 outstanding at a time.  My daughter's boyfriend is going d2 this fall was an outstanding RB and he signed for 1/2 scholarship making his scholl efectibvely  the cost of state school, of course he is smart and also got some other aid as well.

joelmama:

You are right.  DII used to be allowed only 45 full scholarships for football.  Some of our colleagues had this discussion a couple of months ago; I thought they said it was 52 now, but not sure (although I should know that i.e. should have remembered that! :-[  Anyway, as you mentioned, those are split up so that the majority of players on the roster receive 1/2 ride, with a few a bit less.  Additional academic and/or need aide that some of those players may quailify for helps even more as you've pointed out.

Anyone try to watch "Training Day" on Cable lately?  Not HBO or any other movie channel, but on AMC or TNT.

I have tried 3X in the past week and there are too many bleeps and/or dubbing to make the movie watchable.

It's actually 36, but a scholarship can be split among multiple people.

Taking the daughter to Mount tomorrow for a picnic for HS Seniors. God, I hope she gets some scholarship money from somewhere or I'm going to be eating Kraft Mac and cheese the rest of my life. What's left of her investments is less than what I put in. ???

You AIN'T the 'Lone Ranger' on that! :(

I've got a college senior and a hs senior - already spent most of the college son's '529' before the meltdown (and have held off redeeming the rest for a couple of semesters hoping for a recovery), but the hs son's 529 is barely at investment level.  Fortunately, he WANTS to go to the local CC for a couple of years to get his grades up anyway. :)

Thanks for the correction/clarification Pat.  I will indeed remember that from now on!  I had forgotten that like the other divisions, the NCAA lowered the allowed limit on full scholarships in DII as well (but did know as several others also mentioned that those still could be split up as desired by those schools as you've pointed out).

On a tangential yet related aspect, one of the interesting aspects is that some schools came to the realization that if they were going to be fairly competitive at the DII level which they chose to compete at, they would have to pretty much have their programs in line with other similar schools.  Case in point:  for several years, schools like Michigan Tech and Wayne State in the GLIAC offered only a measly < 10 full football scholarships compared to their league colleagues which offered the full slate allowed at that time by the NCAA.  Those two schools have long since changed that by making the "commitment" and, as has been seen in recent years, are very competitive within their league.

Anyway, again thanks for the clarification info.

hate to break up the DII love fest but in former DIII and current NFL  news Pierre Garcon is mentioned as one of 10 guys worth rooting for in NFL camps. Here is the link:

Some good things to say about him and sounds like he has impressed the right people.

Go Pierre!!!

I was impressed that those Facebook notes about the Media Guide came out around 11:30-12:00 last night.

Also a bunch of information posted on MUC.EDU about tickets and TV games (all home games on STO)

Agreed. Really nice job. Said this time and time again.....it is like night and day comparing the last SID with Mr. Reich.

very nice media guide, many people would not be able to tell that it was from a small school.  especially those really good looking guys at the bottom of pg 38, two years out of school and we're still there.

also, I plan on drafting P late in my fantasy draft.  The third WR in Indy should be good for about 550-600 yds and 5-8 TD's.  Pierre is going to have a coming out party this year, plus the coaches have to love him putting DB's on their backs in the run game
