John Carroll Wants in the NCAC Badly that is common knowledge among High School Coaches in the Cleveland area.

News to me.  Where is Toph when you need him?

The JCU to NCAC thing has been floating around for quite a while.

Update on Garcon:2nd-year Colts receiver striving for larger role

I hope Pierre was able to share some of his new knowledge with Mount's returning receiver corp in the spring.  :D
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

FoxSports has a poll asking which team has the best chance of winning the national championship - Florida, Texas, etc... - the answer is MOUNT UNION! And they are not in the poll.

Good stuff on Pierre - I hope he gets the shot. I have put all of my friends that do the fantasy thing onto him. As far as pre-season polls go - I don't think anyone puts any stake in them. I think it has more to do with football writers trying to find something to write about after a long offseason. I can see them sitting at the desk...looking at the calendar...and then the lightbulb appears! 'It's close enough - I'll put out a poll!

By the way - I agree with HScoach. UWW should be number 1 based on what they have back. I have faith in LK - he reloaded after Ballard, Borchert, Moore, Pugh, etc... but Kmic and Micheli were HUGE! The good thing is that the D looks great and the o-line looks strong. I just have not bought into Rocco. He did not appear much and when he did he looked slow and forced. Then again after Micheli everyone looked a little slow and forced.

I was one of the 23 who voted Mount Union number one, though I did consider UW-Whitewater for that slot.  There was (maybe still is) uncertainty whether the Warhawks QB will be back, which counterbalances the loss of Kmic and Micheli.  Plus my perspective is that the names change (and the kids have their own stories) but the results do not in Alliance.  I'll never feel foolish voting the Purple Raiders number 1.

Thankfully, the pre-season poll doesn't matter much in D3 due to the playoffs.  That being said, I think that the MUC defense and the program history is probably the reason why they are #1.  The defense is going to be sick....2006 defense all over.  The Raiders will have 12-13 games to figure out the QB situation.  Round five in the Stagg Bowl would be a battle

Any of you guys familiar with DIII Ohio HS football?  We have a kid coming in from Chagrin Falls by the name of Andrew Klindera who looks like a pretty strong prospect, but I don't know anything about OH HS football.  If anyone has this knowledge, I assume it has to be MUC followers.  Any input?

I don't know...statistically (even though they lost the Stagg Bowl), looking at the points given up, combined with the awesome stretch of consecutive shut-outs, it easy to point to the 2007 team being better defensively. I heard, prior to the Stagg Bowl, the 07 team gave up only 23 yards rushing per game that year!!!! then Beaver came to town  ;)

sorry i don't want to offend anyone, the WIAC board has been dead for a while. Just trying to make some friendly conversation and pass the time until Sept.  8)

Very good player.  1st team all state tells you a lot for a kid from ohio even if it is D3.  My nephew's team played Chagrin Falls and this kid was their defense. (this is for an ofensive minded team however).  Good size if I remember correctly about 6 feet even and about 210-215 lbs.  Good speed.  Where is he going to school?

This is a kid I thought could play at a higher level (like d2, MAC or MUC).

In my honest opinion, that Stagg exposed what I thought was a weakness all year. A slow monster inside linebacker and a VERY slow undersized safety.  That obviously takes nothing away from Beaver. He was an absolute beast.  Just wanted to give my opinion on the weaknesses in the title game.

Pumpkinattack, Here is a little film on Klindera. He looks like a nice player seems to be able to find the football. I would be careful with highlight tapes they tend to only show strengths. In a lot of cases against inferior competition. Ohio football at any level is usually pretty competitive. The degree of competition depends a lot on the team's league affiliation.

Thanks JM and Bump.  He seemed good, but it's better to get local opinion/expertise.  We lost two top ILB's to graduation (Hager - #40 and Sanders-#9 for those of you who went to the MUC-Bart game), so maybe he can compete as a replacement (though I hate to put much stock in FR in general).  Highlight tapes are good to watch, but I know that's exactly what they are - highlights.  Nonetheless, it looks like he scrapes well to shed blocks and will be a good fit for our run blitz heavy system (we often leave the DB's in man coverage).

Bump, he's going to Hobart College in Geneva, NY.  It's not MUC, but a team that's made the playoffs 7 of the last 9 years (plus one ECAC bonus game) and has held a piece of the Liberty League title every year since inception.  It looks like they have a very small FR class (around 27 guys vs. 50 or so when I played 10 - 15 yrs ago), but high in quality with another two or three kids with higher level talent.

Does anybody know if the incoming QB's have participated in the 7 on 7's at Mount?  I really have a good feeling about this Seaman kid. I saw him play four times last season and he is a very much like Micheli.  Good athlete, throws darts and seems to have a very good coaching background as far as passing game and reading defenses.  I think Shorts may end up behind center (3 or four yards behind center), however, with the defense that Mount has I believe that a young QB will get plenty of second half PT.
I think Rocco will get his deserved shot, and if he lights it up may stay there, but his mobility is  a definite negative.

On a serious note, I would ask that you keep former Mount player Mike Ward, wife Denise and family in your thoughts and prayers.  Mike, who has coached around Columbiana County mostly at United Local and Lisbon , lost his 12 year old son Monday night.  Gavin, a 7th grader at United Local died from complications of an asthma attack following a junior high football workout. Mike was at the practice as a volunteer coach.

You young football coaches out there PLEASE pay attention to these kids that have what may appear to be insignificant medical issues and be aware how to respond to them. .  Two years ago, I read of a kid who had asthma and died on his way back to the locker room to get  his emergency inhaler.. Sad sad story.
