Augustana gets no love in national rankings

The thing that I noticed was in this part:

'Mount Union and Wisconsin-Whitewater, which have met in each of the past four national title games, top this year's top 25.
"Mount Union and Whitewater are the elite programs for several unique reasons," Wheaton coach Mike Swider said. "We have played Mount Union six times since I have been here, and each year we have played them you realize how deep and talented they are."
North Central coach John Thorne said the traditional powers, both public institutions, provide a challenge for programs from the CCIW, a collection of eight private institutions.'

Obviously that statement is not accurate.

Our 2009 Mount Union Football Season Preview has been uploaded.

http://www.mtunionfootball.com

Thanks to Mark Grossman, Lenny Reich and Vince Kehres with the help with this.  It is must read for Purple Raider fans, very well done and in-depth!

I hope to be around more this year. Last season was one of my most enjoyable but I was very, very busy with some things and this summer has been no different.

I'll see a lot of you in three weeks and our broadcasts will be on the internet again this season. Go  Raiders!

I wonder who erred, Coach Thorne or the reporter?

Big difference in tuitions and enrollment  between MUC and WWW. I'm guessing it was the coach.

Just watched NFL live and they mentioned Pierre. I wasn't paying attention and all the sudden I heard MUC. Had to rewind.

Pierre's birthday tomorrow, you Facebook folks may want to send him a line.

BTW using Whitewater's Admissions website: Full room and board for Wi resident with parking $6,200 per semester. Mount Union: Quite different

Interesting article acout MIAA schools

Playing catch-up with rest of Division III football teams just got harder for Hope, MIAA

Can't buy Swider argument that shear numbers is the Mount Union-WWW advantage

Not only can't I buy it, I can't find it. He doesn't say that at all.

Quote"I think the key to their success is their depth," Swider said. "It will take a deep and talented team to beat them in December. I believe the teams in our league are getting closer to that level of football."

I think Swider knows better than to blame a WIAC advantage on numbers, considering the WIAC limits its football teams to a 100-player roster.

"Depth" does not equal "size of roster."

How big is MUC's rostser out of curiosity? don't you guys have JV teams scrimmaging against other schools as well...preping them for collegiate team.

I'm still sticking to my guns on why UWW is so good: they have the best facilities in DIII along with no competiting DII and DI schools (other than UW-Madison) who offer scholarships in the state. makes for good pickin's in the WIAC  ;)

I don't think size of the school population has anything to do with it... we don't select our team from our student body

In keeping with the spirit of Division III football, Mount turns away no one who is willing to try.

Sorry, I never understood roster limits in, what is for the most part, small college football.

From where is the team selected? Higher enrollment=less applicants turned away. Good call on the tuition, Seventies.

I'm actually thinking about heading to the OAC day at the HOF next week. I have no idea if I'll be able to attend. Any info?

sorry, should of clarified myself...What I meant by that was players are scouted and recruited prior to attending UWW, MUC, St. Johns..etc. It wasn't dumb luck that brought Beaver to UWW, Garcon to MUC. Our coaches had something to do with bringing that type of talent to our doorsteps, prior to them enrolling. It's not like coaches waited till school starts, then put up a sign up sheet for who wants to play football this year.  ;D

Just messing with you. I think we are all ready for football to start. How many more days is it again???

not so much for out-of-staters to attend UWW (being from IL)...just ask my father, good lord.  ::)

What I find interesting in the MIAA article is this: "In fairness to MIAA coaches, who cannot offer athletic scholarships, they must compete against a region that includes Division III gorilla Mount Union (Ohio) College and its unprecedented 10 national crowns in any division."

It makes it sound as though only the MIAA can not offer scholarships - and sort of implies that Mount can.

Great.. so just to recap, possible starting QB's include:

UWW -- Rump
MUC -- Seaman
Cap -- Assman

I read this and thought of a classic photo from Division I football.

And that search led me to these so it's a win all around.
