Small but Slow

Last week on this board we discussed the potential of Mount losing quality athletes to other programs promising more playing time.   Based on raiderpa's report, I'm guessing this may not be the year it happens. LK doesn't rest on past accomplishments when it comes to recruiting.  As QB coach he has the best opportunity to view each candidate's strengths and weaknesses and make a choice that will shape the personality of the offense.

Any RB's separating themselves from the pack yet?

Just a quick thought while I sit in the truck during a storm delay.  Must be nice to have an indoor practice facility as they do in Alliance.  Today will be our second straight day called off due to lightning.  I'm reminded that the Sunshine State's other nickname is Lightning Capital of the World.

Actually, the field house is torn up right now while they work on adding windows and extending the track to full size for an indoor.  The only indoor practice facility available right now is the training center--and i bet that gets mighty crowded with the 5,000 players that showed up for camp!! (Just trying to scare all the other teams with that number ;))

Any indoor facility is better than none.  We're not even allowed in the gym.  A little chalk talk and some lifting then sent the boys home.  Hoping for better weather tomorrow

We have been sent inside for the past two days as well.  I checked the forcast for today and doesn't look any better.  :(

114 newcomers (freshman and transfers) is the word from Lenny on Twitter. Hopefully see for myself today.

Hey, when I worked the Tampa Bay area, it clouded up and stormed almost everyday in the late afternoon.

Does anyone know the starting time for next Thursday's (Aug. 27) Mount Union's scrimmage?

Blutarsky

Not even sure that the players know the time of the scrimmage with W&J.  Would guess that it would be mid-morning or early-afternoon.  I'll post when they are told.  Players are on a "need to know" basis, and Coach K determines when they "need to know".

6PM as of yesterday, but that can change

Just a reminder/hint to all you QB curious Raider fans out there.....

LK likes QB's who are mobile, and can create space and time by moving around.

I would use that criteria heavily when evaluating the QB candidates.   ;)

I am very interested to see if Urbania is in camp, and how he looks so far.  Seventies......I am putting you on the case!

got to see some of both workouts today...frosh are talented and fast...and numerous...one four maybe six qbs..one looked real good.  Was supposedly recruited last year but went to OU instead and did not play football.  Apparently decided he missed it and returned to play at MUC....

Ist teamers looked fast  and ready to play already.  Rocco has a cannon for an arm and was right on with accuracy, may be as strong an arm as I have seen for quite a while.  Shorts threw every bit as well and also accurately, although not with the power on the long throw...Seaman looked pretty good, with nice touch and some tentative throws, typical.
THe kid from Florida looks to be about 6'4 or  bigger and throws the ball extremely well.  He has quick feet and seems very mobile.  I liked him and his presence should make things very interesting.  I would think he is "3" right now...in my very brief look and totally unprofessional opinion

DB's looked very fast and physical in skeleton drills.

All in all, another bumper crop of talent  Seems almost sinful to have so much talent stockpiled in one DIII arsenal...
Many of these kids who will not see the field could get big PT at other places...

you have to have guts, self confidence and talent to come in as a frosh and not get scared off....

Just ask Nate Kmic. In interviews about his experience at Mount he commented he was very intimidated as a freshman and had thoughts of quiting.

Say it ain't so Nate! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! ???

For anyone feeling that way they need to think about Nate Kmic and what he accomplished while having his own doubts. Granted they lasted only until the playoffs of his freshman year.

The reason the recruits come to Mount is they want to be the best and they will not get there without hard work and dedication. If your are not ready to give that then you probably should go to one of those other schools where you will get earlier playing time. IMHO.

With camps now open, I can start thinking about the 2009 OAC Pick-Ems.

Unless there is a ground swell of support for changes, I'd like to keep the games picked on a spread with OAC conference games worth 2 points and all national or non-league games worth 1 point.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

For the newbies, please make sure to join us in the OAC pick-em contest.  We had close to 40 participants last year and it's a good time.  You can find the pick-em page under the general football page.

Sounds good to me, though a senior citzen handicap might be nice for those 62 and older (I'll qualify by playoffs)!  Seventies would miss the cut this year except for the National Championship game.

Didn't realize you, seventies, and I were all so close in age (though I wouldn't qualify 'til next season). ;)

You guys  are youn'ins   ;D

Nice to see Coach Kmic on the field today. No shortage of talented arms and feet in the newbie practice.

Coach Nate......The running game should be in good hands. I was wondering what Nate was up to.
I plan to be in Alliance on Friday for practices, anybody else going to be there?

Raiderguy, they changed the time for practice on Friday.  They are starting up at 5AM.  Don't be late.
