Pierre had a good night last night. 2 catches for 82 yds. Pretty good average.

You Mount guys seem very worried about the QB and TB position after only one scrimmage. They may not be what you have been used to for the past 4 years but, you are comparing them to probably the all-time best( or close to it ) to play the positions. Don't let success spoil you. Give them a shot. If they don't work out, I'm sure LK will find somebodythat will get the job done.

For the record, all of these concerns were there before the scrimmage.  We were hoping the play of the QB & TB would dispel those fears.  Not confirm them.

With NCC peaking, we CCIW guys are hoping this may finally be the year we can get back over the hump (i.e., the Mount ;)).  By no means wishing you any ill will, but maybe, just maybe? :D

And while Mount has clearly become the greatest dynasty in d3 history, never forget they still have not pulled off what Augustana did - four STRAIGHT national titles! ;D

[I now await my descent to negative karma. :o :P]

I am tired of zapping you with negative karma on this subject. You would probably have 1000 karma points if you would just stop with the four in a row crap. When was that actually? Weren't they wearing leather helmets during that run? Cleats were not even invented. John Gagliardi was in diapers. Mount had not started playing football yet! ;D
You get a pass from me. Oh...........a pass....... that's something that is also foreign to someone from Augustana. :o

If I was an Augie fan, I'd for sure be hanging my hat on the "four in a row thing"!  And I'd be darn proud of it.

Twenty years after LK retires and Mount has long since returned to being just another team, we're ALL going to be beating our chests over the 10, 11, 12, etc titles that they end with.  And whoever is the team to beat at that time will say something about that was a nice run, but they didn't play real football way back then.  Same as current basketball folks dismiss UCLA's run because of the era.

HSCoach:

I think you make an excellent point.  In general, as people get older, while some personal memories may stay very sharp and vivid (for example, specific football plays/moments that they were personally involved in and/or witnessed), others and overall memories get blunted obviously.  They look back and think that some team that was at the top of their sport does not compare to some team today.  One has to put it in perspective.  Going back to all those eras in any sport, people who witnessed those know that those teams were absolutely dominating and the best talent around in regards to the teams they beat at that time.  It is always difficult to compare teams from different eras - IMO, can't really be done.  The championship teams each are the best for the time that they played.  That does not take away the significance of any of them, it's just that we have to keep it in perspective within the times/eras they occurred..."It is what it is". :)

My fantasy draft is tomorrow night and I am thinking of taking Garcon for my last pick if I am set and feel like I have a pick to spare. Doubt I would ever have any reason to play him but it might be fun and a change of pace to want him to do well on the field.  Come to think of it...................... it might be satisfying just to sit him on my bench all season.  ;) :D ;D

I am thrilled he is doing so well.  Continued good luck to him.

Games and spreads have been posted for Week 1 of the OAC Pick-Em contest.  Please join in the fun!

You need to change the date to 2009--some of us confuse easily--and are easily offended by things that are not up to date. ;D ;D

Just some insight from the scrimmage (no game) from Waynesburg. The competition is on for QB. Piloto had a fine day. His only miscue was early, pass was underthrown, and db made a great leaping play to intercept. Other than that, I was very impressed with his presence in the pocket, nice touch passes, and some very nice deep throws. Don't take too much from this, I am certainly not an expert on QBs, but he did seem to do well.

The receivers got alot of personal attention from LK.

The offensive line did well for the most part. They either got tired or tight later on, as they did not do as well toward the end. I mention tight, due to Wayneburg seemed to run some very long series, compared to our offense.

TBs were hard to gage. Apparently there wasnt a TE available so there was very little run action.

Defense did well. Run defense was solid. But the pass defense had the same problem as varsity did against W&J, the bubble screen and short routes to the outside.  Overall a good performance.

BTW, the lights comment referred to the the one pass to the receiver that either never saw the ball or couldn't pick it up in the lights on the post route.

He did have a good average but a 63 yard reception will do that for ya. The only thing that bothers me is that it was LATE - beginning of the 4th. Detroit did not have much in on D as far as starters are concerned - granted Detroits starters are not really much compared to other teams. However, Pierre saw his action late and I wonder how that may play into him being a 3rd reciever.

Trusnik had a solid game last night as well.  Box score says three tackles but play by play shows four.  He had a ST tackle in kickoff coverage in the first.  He made a nice open field tackle on Derrick Ward early in the fourth limiting damage to five yards (had he not tripped him up, Ward would have gone for 15+).  He also forced David Carr out of bounds on a scramble in the 4th before an extremely impressive sack with less than a minute in the game to help seal the win for the Jets.  He lined up at DT of all things, blew by the LG and wrapped up Carr while also getting a holding call called against the lineman he beat.  Pretty sound play and he looked awful familiar in a three point, rushing the QB.

He's also managed to get back in his college jersey (#96) instead of the #57 jersey he's been sporting since joining the Jets.

Jamal Robertson didn't tear it up this weekend on the ground but did manage to snag 11 balls for 91 yards receiving against the Calgary Stampeders (his first pro team).  He's still putting together a pretty good year but injuries and a weak defense have forced the Argos to throw a lot and abandon much of the running game.

GARCON MAKING PLAYS
Few players on the team possess the type of big-play potential wide receiver Pierre Garcon does every time he touches the ball.

Against the Lions, he displayed that potential.

After the Colts defense put together an impressive goal-line stand, the offense took over on the team's own 1-yard line. On second down, Colts rookie quarterback Curtis Painter found Garcon down the right side of the field for a gain of 19. Three plays later, a short Painter pass to Garcon on the left turned into a massive 63-yard pickup thanks to an array of moves from the second-year wide out.

But Garcon had one regret...

"I wish I could have gotten into the end zone," he said.

Instead, the play resulted in a 29-yard Shane Andrus field goal, but Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell was pleased overall with the drive.

"There were two great plays in that whole sequence. There was a great fourth-down stop, which was huge, and there was (Pierre's catch)," Caldwell said. "Typically when you're backed up that far (in your own territory), it turns into points for the opposition."

Caldwell said Garcon is the type of player who can break tackles and pick up yardage after the catch.

"He's a strong and physical guy, and we certainty got a taste of what he is capable of doing," he said. "We just have to make sure he does that consistently."

Good catch.  I've asked the Grand Poobah of D3 to edit the thread title.

I wouldn't want you to be so upset  that you can't post your picks ;)

Chaminade-Julienne has been sporting a new logo and it just dawned on me that it looks a little too much like a certain school from Wisonsin...

Speaking of the drag play........Jason Hall now runs the play at Massillon. Unfortunately, the Refs flagged the play after a huge gain.....thereby causing Hall to go off at the officials and garnering an extra penalty. I saw the play and saw no cause for the flag. I wish the refs had explained the call, however, the field mikes were not utilized on this play ;). Go figure! ;D

Did anyone see the Otterbein-Kenyon scrimmage? How did the teams look.

OldOtter

I was there. Cards came out of the gate slow. Offense stalled on the 1 on their first drive. Then forced a saftey 2 plays later and never looked back. Offense threw the ball a lot more than I expected. Some new faces in the receiving corp looked pretty good. Coy and Yates handled most of the running game and both looked good to go this year. O line played well but it's really hard to tell because Kenyon's lines on both sides didn't look to be of OAC quality. Jack scrambled around and made the plays he normally does. MIssing camp didn't look like it effected him too much. It's hard to get a read on the defense because the first team really wasn't out there much. One thing about Kenyon is that they have HUGE receivers and OC's secondary didn't give up any big plays. D forced a fumble and quite a few punts. FInal score was 27-0 in the one half that they played. All and all a good scrimmage for OC. Time to focus on Bethany

Good showing for Pierre. I think they know he has big play potential, but hey PG you ain't juking pro DB's, just run.
