I dont read too much into the freshman being on the so-called two deep. I got a chance to watch the freshmen play on Saturday and was impressed with the two freshmen quarterbacks not named Seaman. The black qb threw the ball really well on the run and I heard one coach remark, "That was very good."  The next qb to play was a tall white kid who looked very strong in the pocket, and fired some nice strikes downfield. I think Rocco is going to make a few of you guys eat crow.

Glad to hear Pat maybe coming for the BDubs game on 10/3. Assume your doing a 2'fer that day. Glad for a couple of evening games early on for those of us with jv, middle school and youth football conflicts.

This is not a maybe. This is a definite. Flight is booked and everything.

And yes, looking for suggestions for the day half of the doubleheader. OTT-BERG knocks two teams off my never-seen list but shouldn't be a good game. HIRM-WITT is a bad game which knocks off one team. BASH-ALLG is an interesting one that knocks one team off. OBER-OWU ... etc.

In my opinion, not a lot of real "marquee" matchups that weekend other than the MUC-BW rivalry, which you are attending.

Looking around the state, the best of the rest in my mind might be the HCAC matchup of Bluffton at Mt. St. Joe (1:30pm start), but it's a heck of a long drive (5 hours, give or take) from Cincy up to Alliance (trust me, I know better than probably anyone).  You'd really be pushing to make it back for the 7pm start at MUC.

As far as distance is concerned, Cap is at Marietta, a pretty easy trip right down I-77 from Canton but probably not a very good game.  You mention Berg @ OTT...same thing, but could be a surprise in terms of competitiveness.  The other OAC day game is JCU at WILM...meah... not worth the trip

Delaware is not a terrible trip if you want to catch the OBE @ OWU game.  Springfield is probably between 3.5 to 4 hrs from Alliance for the HIR @ WITT game.

Kenyon might be terrible, but they are probably the closest in terms of driving distance from Alliance.  They host Carnegie Mellon at 1:30.

I don't know, Pat.  Nothing that screams "must see" in my mind.  I don't know where else you have visited and I know you like seeing teams you haven't seen before.

You might want to look over into PA.  Some of those schools aren't a bad drive from Alliance and there might be some better games.

Pat, whatever you do... let me know.

Understand that Cecil III is still nursing a sore groin??  Hope he's ready by Saturday.....those injuries have a way of lingering.

BTW...just heard 'word' that the reason for the 4pm start is that MUC has never won a 4pm start....but they have never played a 4pm start.....uhhhh nevermind

I think one of the Stagg Bowl's was a 4PM start but I don't remember which one;  there have been so many! ;D

If Cecil is limited on Saturday, could we see a freshman get some playing time?

I for one was surprised to see the freshman wide receiver so high on the depth chart.  Not so much due to his athletic ability (he is a stud), but he did have two drops in the scrimmage, and I would have thought LK would keep him in his "special doghouse" at least for a week or two.  Just let's you know what LK thinks of his skill level.  HOWEVER.....drops/mistakes/fumbles won't be tolerated once the seaon starts.  Morring can personally attest to that when he was a freshman.

Trust me when I tell you........you SHOULD read something into the freshman QB being #2 on the depth chart.  He will play, and if Rocco does "what Rocco does", he will quickly become #1.  Take it to the bank.

I personally hope Rocco has a great game.  The kid has earned his chance, so here's hoping he comes through.  I have no reason to believe it will be any different than we have witnessed from the last few years, but who knows?

Yep.  There have been 36 of them to date... this year will be 37.

Whats up skunkssidekick??  How is Junior?  And skunks?

a little info on my nephew's first game as QB this past Sunday (he's 10).... he clearly led the team in rushing (mostly QB keepers around end) and completed a few passes.... one was a 66 yard TD with no time left in the 1st half.... to give his team the lead.  It was an out route, but the receiver turned it into almost a flag route... because he rounded it off..  Nephew threw a strike and the kid outraced the rest of the team down the sideline.  It was a pretty cool moment for him... first time he has experienced a crowd going nuts for something he had a hand in.

Hey SF!  All is well here....

Jr. got to play his first 8th grade game in Fawcett Stadium against Massillon this past weekend.  He starts at safety, and rotates in at RB.  It was quite the day for the kids to get to play on the turf, in that venue.  It was even better when they beat Massillon.  Jr. is still learning to play safety, as he is used to playing linebacker and just running free to the football.  He decided he had the "flats" one play, and a Massillon receiver was open and free down the field (Jrs responsibility) but DROPPED the sure touchdown pass.  A good learning moment for Jr.  He had about six tackles, and defended two other passes (one he just missed an interception).  He ran the ball three or four times, and is the "slash" portion of their slash and dash combo.  The kid definitely knows how to run north and south.

Skunk and I will be in Rochester this weekend for the Mount game.  This season should be a very interesting one to watch.  Now that I have Saturdays off, I plan on making most of the home games this year.  It's nice that Jr. plays on Wednesday nights.

I am going to be down your way in a few weeks for work, so I will PM you when I know the details and maybe we can get together for a pop or two.

I think OTT-Berg will be a better game than you suggest.  A team ranked 2nd versus a team from the middle of the OAC pack.  Definately a better matchup than anything else that week in the area.

Going to be more interested in the actual traveling roster for this weekend. Dang SJF week is getting boring like the rest. This may be duller than Randolph-Macon week last year.

The Bieners and Bergers could make for a good game. My bad about denison

I agree on all counts.

Was somewhat surprised Mathie was running with the 2nd set of receivers at the scrimmage, was disappointed that he dropped 2 easy passes (one a perfect fade route for a TD) in the scrimmage, and then VERY shocked to see him listed on the 2-deep for this weekend.   He was a stud in HS, but Mount has a ton of those on the roster and I assumed it would take him a year playing on the JV's to get noticed.  But I'm sure he has also benefitted from being nearby allowing him a bunch of time this summer working with the guys that the out of town freshmen guys might not have.   Plus LK watched a ton of Louisville games last year chasing Seaman so he would have a much better read on Mathie coming into camp than he would of the other freshmen.  Hopefully he makes the best of his early opportunity.  If he screws it up, it might be a while before he gets another one.

As the standing president of the Kurt Rocco Fan Club, I honestly hope he comes thru this season.  He's a real physical speciman and throws a great ball.  He doesn't have to be a great field general changing plays like Micheli did, just read your progressions and hit the first open guy.  With the receiving corps we have, he doesn't have to be spectacular, just solid.

But if we see again what we've already seen from him, I'm confident that LK won't let a potentially great season be pissed away waiting for the light bulb to come on for a 4th year player when there are other options at that position.  Whether it be Shorts or a youngster.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Where do you find a depth chart?
