For the last 10 years+, I've been wondering what the OSU offense would look like if LK had control of it.

Pryor and Tressel lost that game last night. He didn't make many plays at all and his biggest play was the INT that set up the USC TD.

Tressel is extremely annoying.  He coaches like he is in the NFL. Field position and special teams. Give me a break. First off, how many times did USC run the SAME Qb sneak on 4th and 1? Tressel is too much of a p*s to do anything semi-risky.  Until he decides to enter the 21st century with his schemes, they Bucks will continue to lose big games. I'm glad Rich Rod is in the Big Ten now, might wakeup the Bucks to run some new things.

In my opinion, Tressel needs the boot.  3 straight Big Ten titles or not, he can't win a big game. Remember, he won the Natl Title with Cooper's recruits. Ok, I think I'm done.

OSU needs to regroup to meet a pumped up Toledo team.

Browns Stadium holds 70,000 and when OSU played at the old stadium with a capacity of 80,000+, the game was a sell out. I know they played a MAC school, maybe BGSU.

Since many people cannot get tickets for an OSU game in Columbus, this game will sell out as well if not already. The fact that Toledo is coming off a big win, will increase the interest level.

I see absolutely nothing from OSU QB that would even hint he could be a great QB or leader ....doesn't  seem to recognize defenses, makes poor choices, fundamentally weak,  throws a floater, and appears to get down, mope, and try to make plays that are not there......

As my Pappy used to say, "I don't think Tyrell is the sharpest knife in the drawer"

Or as Foghorn Leghorn used to say; "Nice boy but he bout as sharp as a bowling ball."

Hey Reality Check - Thanks for the sanity check!

Even tho I only went to Columbus to party, I had no choice but to be an OSU fan.  My father was -- and he didn't even make it through high school!

When I watch Tressel coach, I think of Mike Hargrove (the 'Human Rain-Delay') and LK.  They are all master students of the game.  They know the odds, they know the proper play for every situation.

The difference -- do they know when to break from the expected?

You can't question Tressel's coaching ability ... he has more championships than most.  [4 at YSU, 1 at OSU]  His boners come when he breaks from the expected.

He is no LK.  But he does send his coaches to Larry's coaching seminars to get as close as he can.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Tom Manning also coaching at Toledo

Hey Sainsfan, Thomas More has a former Mogadore Youth Football kid whose oldest brother took Mogadore to a D6 State Championship. Bryce Molnar's dad is a college QB coach who seems to never last more that two years anywhere. At least he got in to position for Bryce to play for Elder. I'd like to know how he's doing from time to time.

As a U Toledo guy I can tell you all that LK's boys are doing a great job and have been a big part of a cultural change for the Rockets. As for the attendance at the Ut-Colorado game, high school football is really big in Toledo and there are only so many fans to go around. I was at the Toledo Central Catholic vs Mishawaka Penn game for a reunion gathering and there were probably 6,000 there.

Anyway, all us Rockets are glad to have some Mount Union guys coaching here.

The last 6,500 seat went on sale in Toledo for the game at Browns Stadium. That's pretty good because Kent State literally can't give tickets away

As my Pappy used to say, "I don't think Tyrell is the sharpest knife in the drawer"

Who was this guy named "Tyrell" your Pappy was talking about?

Everyone should just calm down on the OSU talk.

I just get annoyed that even D3football.com has so many "experts" on Buckeyes football.  He won with Cooper's guys using his schemes.  He's been in how many top tier BCS games?  And Cooper was in how many?  People moan and groan about Cooper's inability to beat UM.  Tressel manages to own UM and they find ways to moan and groan about Tressel's inability to win a BCS game.  It just amazes me how the OSU experts all find something to be upset about and nothing ever satisfies.  Cooper goes 2-10-1 against UM and 3-9 in bowls and wins 3 conference titles in 13 seasons.  Tressel goes 7-1 in 8 years against UM, wins 5 conference titles, the first national championship in 32 years and is playing in bigger bowl games year after year (5-3 record in those bowls by the way) and yet "the sweater vest must go."

Just be glad you've got your Raiders and forget about the boys in the Shoe.

No one is claiming "expert status."  Talk about getting annoyed.

He did use his schemes, but he is also using them now. And I also believe I acknowledged his success in the Big Ten.  However, what success has the Big Ten had in recent years on the national level? Basically losing 60-70% of the bowl games. I also never said anything about Cooper's record.  I simply stated that sweater vest needs to showup on the big stage. Of course nothing ever satisfies.  Anyone with a smidgen of common sense is never satisfied in football. 5-3 record in bowl games is great but 0-3 in the last 3 is not. They are not playing in bigger bowl games each year. Tressel doesn't necessarily need to go, he just needs to stop playing 10 yard fight every week.

Incidentally, RC, did you get my private message?

Much that was said about OSU is spot-on.  I do believe we as "fans" really lose perspective occasionally.  When Cooper was here, it was all about "can we just beat Michigan ONCE in a while!"

I certainly don't like getting waxed repeatedly in BCS bowl games.  Although last year was a very competitive, down to the wire game with Texas.  Tressel showed some innovation that game, but overall I think the best thing he could do is hire an aggressive, innovative, younger OC.  Defensively the Buckeyes played extremely well.  USC was supposed to run all over OSU's defense, and that didn't happen at all.

On to ONU week!  I almost hope that ONU comes out of the gate and puts 7 on the board first so we see how Mount reacts to being down early.  I have a feeling they will react with a methodical, FAST march down the field, but it would be a challenge I would like to see.

Skunk and I are tentatively planning on making the Rt. 30 trek.

For a long time Coach Kehres called all the plays than gradually allowing his assistants to take on that role except for key games and critical situations. I am not sure if Jim Tressel is willing to do that, but I agree a young agressive OC would not hurt. The closeness of this game may have a positive affect on the Buckeyes.

I would be very surprized if ONU marches down the field and scores right out of the shoot. It has been along time since a team marched and scored
on the Raiders ( maybe it was a Rocky/Cap, some time ago) at the beginning of any game.

Tressell doesn't need the boot...anyone who can recruit star athletes to play in that offense is brilliant!!

those $500 handshakes sure don't hurt recruiting....wink wink

but on an actual D3 related note:

it looks like Pierre Garcon will likely get his first NFL start on Monday Night Football against his hometown Dolphins.

Desertraider

On the OSU note: The Buckeyes needed a Krenzel type QB that last 2 games. He was not pretty, he did not have eye popping stats. He only did one thing well: he did not make mistakes. He managed the game, ate the clock, and did not cost the team a game. Pryor might have all the talent in the world - but it does not show. He looks confused under pressure, and lost when there is no pressure ( a delay of game AT HOME!!). He always looks to run - even when he isn't flushed - and then doesn't run but floats one down field. Watch his feet - terrible mechnics. Feet are always moving, throws off his back foot, throws back across the field - all the stuff a junior high coach tells a kid not to do. He was advertised as a Tebow (I hate Tebow) but he doesn't run and apparently can't pass. Don't know what that equals - but anywhere else that would equal a "clipboard holder".

And thats all I have to say about that.

T.Pryor's stats:
11/25  177yds  0 TD  1 Int

Barkley's stats:
15/31  195yds  0 TD  1 Int

Neither one lit it up on Saturday night.  Two drives killed OSU.  The first one (pick for USC to start the game) and the last scoring drive for USC.

Pryor is only a Soph, so hopefully he will get better.  Still not pleased with OSU overall performance in the big games recently, but like Tressel better than Cooper.
