reality check

We won our first ever home game last night at Combs High School in San Tan Valley, AZ.  We came in 0-4 and had shown some signs of improvement.  Our JV was 0-4 as well but more fundamentally sound.  That said we were a combined 0-8 and had lost 3 home games at the brand new stadium.  We beat Flagstaff HS last night 26-12 and although I didn't realize it, we not only notched the first HS win at the new stadium, we also scored the first home TD.  (I'm still holding onto the game ball in my classroom!)  I am so proud of our kids and thankful that the offense finally clicked consistently for 4 quarters.  We are headed in the right direction.

The JV won tonight in Flagstaff (a 4.5 hour trip) by a score of 45-0 after losing at home 33-0 last week.  That's a helluva swing from week to week but they got the monkey off their back too.

Now if ONU takes care of business against OTT this weekend I'll be even happier.

Congrats, RC!  Notching that first win as a 1st year program is a huge accomplishment.  Next week we play a 1st year team.  We are still looking for our first win of the year ourselves.  Shoud've done it tonight against my former team.  We're up 20- 6 and lost 27-20 in OT.  We had them on the ropes several times but couldn't close the deal.  Hope to turn the tide next week.

Is that near Chandler?  I'm trying to picture all the growth out there and the need for new schools as a result.

Congrats btw... funny you didn't mention CJ vs. Badin, who play tonight.

Congrats RC!  This is my second year coaching at a 2nd Year Middle School.

We are 0-2 right now and are needing a victory to get some positive energy flowing.

Keep up the Good Work!

I haven't seen anything beyond what purplesuit mentioned earlier.  I'm guessing we were looking at the same thing which was on OC's website saying that Rafferty was out with a finger injury on his throwing hand suffered against Musky and Schlosser was expected to start against ONU.

The rumors are true, but the name will not be the University of Mount Union.

Have you heard what the rumored name going to be 68?  MUU?

I am sure many remember the letters MTU on the ESPN score updates during the last few years playoffs.

That was because they didn't like "MUC" up there, too close to Muck.

MT (for Mount) U (for Union).  Not University at that time.

I received an email about this from the College.  Mostly the same that has been posted here.  They are trying to stay active in recruiting students in the future and they had a study done where people associate "University" as having a better reputation than "College".

Guys,

You have the reasons correct.

The name I heard is Mount Union University. The logos of the college
can be easily changed just replace the word college for university and keep the bell tower and Mount Union the same. The showing of MTU from ESPN was a point of discussion on the name, unless something changes in the coming weeks.

One thing that has been suggested here on campus is "Mount Union, a private University"--pretty much everyone refers to the place as "Mount Union" now so the change listed above wouldn't be too terrible and would avoid the MUU or UMU.  And this is not yet a done deal--the board of trustees has to approve it and I have it from a good source that many of them are strongly opposed to the change--we'll have to wait until after the board meeting in October.

That is true, but it was the Board that asked the Administration to look into
the possibility of a change. In some cases, not all Board members agree.

A buddy used Mount Union University as some sort of a pick up line in Ft. Lauderdale on spring break back in the day.  I believe the results were mixed in that name recognition survey.

Another sign that the apocolypse is near when ESPN provides inspiration for a college's name change.

An irony in the name debate is that Boston College is a more nationally prominent athletic and academic institution than Boston University.

I also took the survey sent out by the school and was negative about change to actually make the school larger and appear larger.

Some idiot on eBay has been selling Mount Union University t-shirts for years. I could hang it next to the Mogadore HS Diving team t-shirt one of the staff got me last year.

I'm on pins and neddles waiting for the Alfred score ;)

Oh yeah, we got a game tomorrow. I the spirit of the new Federal League rules, Fight valiantly Purple Raiders.
