Small but Slow

Maybe a rich guy will give the college a truck load of money so the board can give the university his name.   ;D

From www.colts.com a little love for Pierre. http://www.colts.com/sub.cfm?page=article7&news_id=0fac14c3-ed9c-493f-b489-094967b23948

I was reading the student newspaper on the proposed name change. It said the debate was between UMU and MUU - pretty much what was said here. But it the Presidents comments made it sound like it hadalready happened - or at least the decision to do it had already been made. I do not see University as holding any additional prestige, and Universities are normally a collection of colleges under the University umbrella. Is Mount going to change from top to bottom so each department becomes a College of History, or whatever? It is more thn just the name at stake. If they formally change to a U then students may find themselves having to get accepted into Mount Union University and then apply after completing BERs to the College they want to major in. As far as the prestige factor goes - I agree if everyone becomes a U then U won't hold any additional prestige. Plus, Phoenix is U and its on-line. Nothing wrong with that - but how much prestige does that have?

Good article on Pierre, let's hope he continues to improve.

The decision I understand has been made and will be announced sometime
in October. Although the exact name and letters MTU, UMU, or MUU is not been finalized. The intent of the name change and its impact is to be more competitive for future students. The new wellness center within McPherson Center was part of it, as the new welcome center. Mount's competition, some in the OAC, and some locally are doing the same thing. i.e. Walsh University, Malone University, Muskingum University.

The change to a University structure with colleges within is probably not
likely in an effort to maintain the small school atmosphere. Who knows
if these changes raise the prestige meter or not. We will just have to wait and see.

Not much prestige you'd think... but their degrees are still honored in the business world.  I know quite a few people who've gone that route for master's degrees.

I could care less what they change the name to as long as LK is still walking the sidelines.

Don't forget your picks.

NICE!

So when Mount Union finally announces its plans to become a university do you think they'll finally realize it's also time to move up a division or two???  I mean if they're this good as a college, then think how much more embarrassing it will be for all of us when they compete as a university.

You're becoming more concerned with my sexuality than I am.  I'm starting to wonder if meeting up in Oct to see ONU/BW is a good thing or not given all your recent interest in my preferences.

Degrees from "Colleges" are still honored as well. The degree being recognized is not the issue. The issue is does it have more weight? Like I said nothing wrong with an on-line degree - I just don't see them holding alum mixers that draw the elite of society. Mount seems to think that they will get a better draw because of this, and as the artilce states the major impact will be among international students. International students seem to equate college with technical school. THAT'S IT! MOUNT UNION TECHNICAL COLLEGE! Students can study tv/vcr repair, climate control technology and even pre-law!

RC,  I'd strongly suggest avoiding a night with SaintsFAN.  The City of Alliance (and many of the farm animals) haven't been same since his last visit.

And congrats on the first W.

All this MUU talk reminds me of the marketing pitch ONU used regarding their "university" status.  They overdid it with the phrase "Small Enough to Care but Large Enough to Challenge".  That was all over all the handouts to prospectives when I was in the mix.  It sounded as though they wanted to attract the university-seekers but still keep the college feel so this is definitely not a foreign concept.
