....but since Rocky finally left, it has dropped off some.

Did Rocky leave or did he retire? :-\

On the Mount playing a DII etc..I think it would open a major can of worms. If Mount plays Ashland, Dayton, Tiffin....and makes it a tough game or wins (which I have to say they probably would win big over a couple of those) then the calls for Mount to move up become louder. Additionally, Ohio has a lot of college football programs that make it difficult to recruit in state. I am sure Ashland, Tiffin and Dayton would not want to compete against a DIII school in recruiting when they already have to compete against YSU, Akron, BG, Kent, OSU to an extent, UC, etc. Didn't Lee Owens at Ashland say something to that effect in an interview after Mount won 100 consecutive conference games? The UWW is different in that they have played out-of-state DII programs (at least I don't recall them playing one from in state). Maybe Mount could schedule USC in a couple of years - gotta be early and after Ohio State since USC always seems to fall on their face around then.  ;D

If my memory serves, Owens said his biggest competitor in recruiting was Mount, and that he had had several young men turn down scholarships at AU and go to Mount instead.  With a number of new DII schools in Ohio recruiting may get even more difficult for everyone.

I'd love Mount to play some Ohio D2 schools. I don't see them losing to anyone, at least not more than once. I'd REALLY love to see MUC play Walsh or Malone. It would be complete domination.......by MUC.

With the blackout, I wonder if the steaming pile will plan a brown-out?? :o

Man, would that be ugly!!

For all of you "Reluctant about Rocco" (maybe a new TV show??), it was posted on JJ that Kurt is currently 4th in all of D-III in passing efficiency......

Great coach and great lineage: Sherman begat Wable who begat Kehres, or so to speak ;)

I hope Cap is back this year.  I think many of the yards given up by the Cap D were in mop up duty.  Caps best DB Ronnie Smith has not played much due to injury.  With the tough games being in Bexely other than the Otters and a healthy Marty I like their chances to bounce back from last year.

Had a long talk with Mogadore old-timers about the records Chuck Morre might have had if he played the second half in high school and/or college. Fragile knees might not have allowed that to happen

Echo JK's thoughts.  In Ed's days The Muskies were the men.  Anyone remember Cannonball Cooper?  Also, just like the machine of Mount that wins today, lots of Ed's players became college coaches just like the machine of Kehres.

While there has been no talk at all about the the BW/Mount game, what
might B-W try and do against the Raiders? With a potential 1-3 record after Saturday, can they even get to 5-5 with Cap, Ott  and ONU coming later?

This goes back to earlier posts concerning Mount's rivals. At one time
B-W not only was a rival, but had more wins against the Raiders!

If I am BW (and thank god I am not) I blitz early and often from the backside. Rocco is not as good under pressure and is not the most mobile so they may be able to get to him and rattle him. However, they need to double Cecil which leaves them single on the other WRs so they have to get Rocco quick. They also have to stop the running game to force Mount to pass so the blitz can be effective. How do they do that - no clue. Mounts line seems to open a hole at will and Panchik is running more like Kmic than the opponents would like. The problem for BW (colors aside) is that Mount normally uses 3 and 4 WR sets. If they commit 2 to Cecil and single on the others then they have used 4 or 5 DBs in coverage. Zone coverage won't work because someone is going to be 1 on 1 with Cecil and that is a mismatch. That limits them to 6 or 7 (or even 8 if they use Mounts famous 12 man defense - reference to Pam Ward at the Stagg) to stop the run and blitz. BWs options on D are somewhat limited. They could just pray - pray a lot! That might work.

Hope that the flu wipes out the top 3 layers of talent at every position before Saturday.  Otherwise, stay in Berea.

On the Cap subject, I really hope they're back and remain there.  Mount needs a strong competitor that will push them to the edge.  Outside of the 2005, Ohio Northern hasn't shown the ability to be competitive and I still think that game was more about MUC than ONU.  B-W and JCU are shells of their glory years and Otterbein is, well, Otterbein.  The OAC and Mount need Capital to be back.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Saw this in Tuesday Morning Quarterback, from Gregg Easterbrook (a favorite of Mount fans all over!)

"This will be one of TMQ's favorite moments of the season: low-drafted Division III Pierre Garcon of Mount Union College blowing past first-round choice Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for a 53-yard touchdown reception on a simple go route. Between this and the prior Monday night game, Garcon put up two long touchdown receptions in six days, both on national television."

its good he didn't tie in "running up the score" to Garcon getting a shot in the NFL...
