bleedpurple:

A slight sense of humor would help you quite a bit on our board.  We're not anywhere near the level of the E8 or LL boards, but we tend to be a lot more sarcastic and pointed than the WIAC board.

For the record on BW at Mount, they honestly have ZERO chance of winning.  Their program was once the standard bearer in the OAC but now they're barely an average league team.  And average conference foes have no chance to beat Mount.  Sorry if that sounds arrogant to you, but it is the truth.

Being a Whitewater fan, you have witnessed the recipe for beating Mount.  Run the ball effectively, play great attacking defense and don't turn the ball over.  BW doesn't have the ability to do any of those.

BW's leading running back is averaging a whopping 3.4 yards per carry.  They've given up 94 points in 3 games against teams with nowhere near the passing game that Mount brings and their QB has thrown as many INT's as he has TD's.

It would be way easier to have this conversation over a beer with you guys!  :D  When I try to make a written point, I use precise language sometimes and I know it comes off as WAY MORE serious than it is. I have laughed at responses for sure. Let's face it, arrogant statements are fun to read for most. I was just trying to figure out if anyone realized they were sounding arrogant, or if they knew and just didn't care because they are "entitled". I wonder, but have no idea how fans of other conference teams feel about what I consider the arrogant posts. In fact, I don't see a whole lot of posting from other schools' fans.

While there has been no talk at all about the the BW/Mount game, what
might B-W try and do against the Raiders? With a potential 1-3 record after Saturday, can they even get to 5-5 with Cap, Ott  and ONU coming later?

This goes back to earlier posts concerning Mount's rivals. At one time
B-W not only was a rival, but had more wins against the Raiders!

If I am BW (and thank god I am not) I blitz early and often from the backside. Rocco is not as good under pressure and is not the most mobile so they may be able to get to him and rattle him. However, they need to double Cecil which leaves them single on the other WRs so they have to get Rocco quick. They also have to stop the running game to force Mount to pass so the blitz can be effective. How do they do that - no clue. Mounts line seems to open a hole at will and Panchik is running more like Kmic than the opponents would like. The problem for BW (colors aside) is that Mount normally uses 3 and 4 WR sets. If they commit 2 to Cecil and single on the others then they have used 4 or 5 DBs in coverage. Zone coverage won't work because someone is going to be 1 on 1 with Cecil and that is a mismatch. That limits them to 6 or 7 (or even 8 if they use Mounts famous 12 man defense - reference to Pam Ward at the Stagg) to stop the run and blitz. BWs options on D are somewhat limited. They could just pray - pray a lot! That might work.

desertraider,

Good analysis and given the coverage that B-W may want to throw
at the Raiders, it could be long and deep quick with Cecil to stretch
the defense and pound with the running game. Could be a long day for
B-W and unlike prior years the back-ups could see more PT this Saturday.

HScoach,

The Cap comment is just what I hope will happen as well, but not quite at the edge like the ONU first half. Cap is in a good position to be that other
OAC team and a challenge to the Raiders early will help both schools as the season moves along.

You guys are killing me!

THESE are the type of comments I have sarcastically responded to in the past and been lit up as if I've somehow insulted Mount Union's team or program. To honor an actually civil exchange on this board earlier in the week, I won't say a word. It's not the team that smacks of arrogance!  ;)

Would this be the civil exchange you refer too? You want to honor this?

"Congratulations to the Mount Union Purple Raiders for their victory this evening. Although I wasn't able to see the game, I have no doubt they played excellent football, were darn near perfectly coached, demonstrated unparalleled class, and provided all who attended a wonderful college football experience. Congratulations also to the players of Muskingum who undoubtedly played as hard as they could and got themselves a couple of touchdowns in the process. I'm sure it was a magical night in Alliance as the machine rolls on. In the meantime Muskingum undoubtedly improved measurably simply by playing against such outstanding execution and should benefit when they host Ohio Northern next weekend as long as they didn't suffer too many injuries from the hard hitting of the Purple Raiders. "

I hope you don't find me too arrogant to actually ask what you think of that post? Drips of the sarcasm you speak of and it's hard to take anything you say with sincerity after that. You still haven't seen some one about your problem I guess?

Like HS Coach says "Get a sense of humor. "

Have a great season? ;)

Guy,

No this was one of the posts I classified as acerbic. I had exchanged a few barbs from a couple of MUC fans (My apologies if you were one, I dont remember the sreen names) on the WIAC Board. The civil one was a little later.

I like the red letters. There are "Red Letter" versions of the Bible in which the only words written in red are the words of Jesus. I appreciate the honor, but I'm just a guy needed His sacrifice probably more than most. (Did we find common ground there? :) )

I do not find your question arrogant. I think that post was harmless and done with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek. In other words, my hoped for response would be just a smile, a headshake, a "There goes that jerk bleedpurple again", and then moving on.

I love the suggestions that I need to have a sense of humor. WHY DO YOU GUYS THINK I EVEN POST HERE! I think it's FUN to go at it with you guys. if UWW is  'FORTUNATE" enough to get to the Stagg again, it will be weeks and weeks until they get their shot at THE MOUNT!

I feel like the guys telling me to get a sense of humor are taking my posts far more seriously than I am! Maybe a string of  :D ;D ::) ;D ;D after each post would help my presentation!

I did see  therapist as you implied I should. He just sat there nodding his head, collected his money, and said see you next week!

The actual definition of arrogance is: " offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride." per dictionary.com

Well they must be super-arrogant then because Mount Union is known to put together many offensive, defensive and special teams displays of superiority on their way to victory.

Jerks.

Wow, I didn't know LK delegated so much responsibility to the FANS! I stated clearly the team, coaches, and others in the program are NOT arrogant. But I didn't realize that LK delegated to the FANS such huge responsibility.

I don't think I've ever heard them called jerks before (other than Garcon!)  ;D

Until President Obama is able to fully implement his plan, I'm not sure who is in charge of bestowing arrogance entitlements. But he will probably be in control of that too. I just thought it might be fun for a follower of one of the few teams not afraid of Mount to challenge it a little bit!

This made me spit up my cereal onto the keyboard.

Kinda like this:

Dr. Timothy McCarthy while receiving a medical award for creativity, reported his findings to the Fellows of Plastic Surgery, concluding with this case study: "Several years ago a woman was high on cocaine and marijuana and she rode a horse head-on into a train traveling 80 miles an hour. All I had left to work with was the woman's hair and the horse's ass. I was able to put them together and now she's Speaker of the House

desertraider,

how dare you be so arrogant?  what has your program ever accomplished? 10 national titles? fluke.  two longest winning streaks ever? who cares.  two decades of complete dominance? its 2009 now, come on.  why can't you just say that Mount will be for the fight of their lives against BW?  They have only had one losing season in what seems to be a hundred years.  The law of averages would make Mount fortunate to win on Saturday.  let's try to show a little humility towards our OAC opponent.  what's with the sense of entitlement man?

Wow Suit, still stuck on the "fortunate" word huh?  :D

So your explanation is slightly different than dessert. Your position (If I am reading through the sarcasm correctly) is that you all have a RIGHT to be arrogant. So in essence, you are entitled to be arrogant, because of Mount Union's success. Until President Obama is able to fully implement his plan, I'm not sure who is in charge of bestowing arrogance entitlements. But he will probably be in control of that too. I just thought it might be fun for a follower of one of the few teams not afraid of Mount to challenge it a little bit!

Actually President Obama has a plan which requires all  citizens to purchase "arrogance credits". Failure to purchase will result in a steep fine. Its okay though because we won't have to pay for them directly as the Fed will allow a tax credit to offset. I for one am very pleased with this plan and am offering 20 arrogance credits - to fans that follow teams who's records don't allow them to be arrogant - for the reasonable rate of $5000. Once you gt the offset on you tax return that will reduce your purchase price to one $1! C'mon a buck!!! ;D

I make a joke related to the dictionary.com's take on "arrogance" and you turn it into some sort of response to fans.  I have read and re-read your response and can't make any real sense of it.  I'd say I'd like an explanation but I really don't care enough to hear it.  You're making less sense than doeder on an acid trip.

....but since Rocky finally left, it has dropped off some.

Did Rocky leave or did he retire? :-\

On the Mount playing a DII etc..I think it would open a major can of worms. If Mount plays Ashland, Dayton, Tiffin....and makes it a tough game or wins (which I have to say they probably would win big over a couple of those) then the calls for Mount to move up become louder. Additionally, Ohio has a lot of college football programs that make it difficult to recruit in state. I am sure Ashland, Tiffin and Dayton would not want to compete against a DIII school in recruiting when they already have to compete against YSU, Akron, BG, Kent, OSU to an extent, UC, etc. Didn't Lee Owens at Ashland say something to that effect in an interview after Mount won 100 consecutive conference games? The UWW is different in that they have played out-of-state DII programs (at least I don't recall them playing one from in state). Maybe Mount could schedule USC in a couple of years - gotta be early and after Ohio State since USC always seems to fall on their face around then.  ;D
There are lots of D2 schools in PA (18 in one conference I think).  My daughter goes to Mercyhurst and they are middle of the bunch as far as I can see. I think MUC (or MUU) would beat them pretty easily though.  Maybe a Slippery Rock matchup would be interesting and the travel is minimal.

old scot

I'm from western Pa. "The Rock" would be a nice match-up for Mount but, I think the Raiders would handle them most years. I would say Cal U or IUP would give them a good game year in and year out.
That being said, "The Rock" upset IUP this year 7-3. ???????

raiderpa

believe me, as a Mount fan, I would rather drive to Slippery Rock than Wisconsin...

THis arrogant fan stuff cracks me up.  I am surprised by the "stones" it takes to make outrageous comments when you:
1. are not on the Mount football team
2. have never been on the Mount football team
3. have never been on a football team
4. have never stepped on a football field

Obviously, being a player doesn't make you the best source of info or advice, but those never having been part of the program, (and I am not part of the program) that are primarily boosters or spectators (me) should be very careful when making comments that reflect negatively on Raider football and Raider nation.
Look upon the success of the program with pride and appreciation, not arrogance or expectation

PS.  If any of you know Garcon....tell him that he will continue to get the attention and adoration of many as long as he keeps his head on straight...
