BP,

Some of your posts (about MUC football) are interesting, some irritating.  Your post, below, very well presents my thoughts and I thank you.  The Board used a lot of words to say little of value or interest.  In the same number of words, they could have explained how this change is not simply "keeping up with the Jone's" - Malone and Walsh Universities.  In this liberal era of creating least common denominators, do they want to drag Mount down to the level of Walsh and Malone?

I see  no way that The University at Mount Union will enhance MUC's fine reputation.  In one fell swoop, they have reduced Mount's appeal to many.  I've lived in Stark County and followed Mount football since 1965.  My daughter graduated from Mount.  At this time, I'm bummed and unlikely to go to the BW game tonight.

Darn!

Setting aside all the light hearted football banter for a moment:

I feel badly for those of you long time fans and supporters who are hurt by the name change. In reading the incredibly vague letter from the Board of Trustees, it reads very much like rebranding to me.

"Significant themes" and "number of reasons" are cited but no specifics were given. They encouraged people to "read more", but didn't even hint at where the info could be found. Unless this is common knowledge, Alumni and supporters deserved more.

I know MUC degrees are well respected. MUC attracts quality students and produces quality graduates.

I have always been a proponent of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality.

I admit I know less about the inner workings at MUC than almost any other poster on here. But from the outside looking in, I can't quite see what was broke.

People make the difference in successful programs. The Board has to look about as far as, ohhh Mount Union Stadium to see that!

Perhaps, just perhaps, instead of messing with the name, the Board should enlist LK to help them in the areas of  being "relevant, proactive, successful and forward thinking." From this perch in Wisconsin, he seems to have those down pretty well.

Just a thought....

Thanks Bam,

This issue clearly strikes to the heart of people who have ties to and care a great deal about MUC. While I think light hearted jabbing back and forth about football or fan behavior or whatever can be fun, this is different. While Marquette liberals stripped MU of the Warriors mascot in favor of the laughable "Golden Eagles", some of the most ardent supporters and alumni still refer to them as Warriors and their loyalty is NEVER questioned. MUC lives on.

I bought a crapload of MUC stuff at the bookstore when in Ohio two months ago.

Do I ask for refunds or has it increased in value???   ???

Don't do either. WEAR IT!!!

Im not arrogant.....sometimes euphoric to an annoying degree.....but not arrogant. There is a difference. If there were an arrogant emoticon, I wonder what it would look like? Any ideas guys?

accourding to some, i mean one, it seems like Pierre's face would do :)

I hope the name change works out.  My brother wanted to study engineering at MUC but at the time it didn't have a true engineering program.  He would have spent three years in Alliance and another two at Kent, I believe.   He ended up at Embry-Riddle in FL, which worked out well for him.  At the time his only true option in the OAC was ONU.  I believe the additional programs will atttract more students because of increased options.  To me it seems a wise choice for the school.  I wonder how much Mount plans to grow in the future.  One of the biggest benefits the school offeres when I was there was the personalized education each student received.  I hope that this is not lost as the school continues to grow.

Final season Regis? JCU just got more acceptible to the NCAC.

Spent part of my morning with two board members and all I got was marketing crap. "We can't attract students from europe because they think we're a high school"  Sorry, we got kids that dumb on Stark County. Any further donations go straight to athletics. The University of Akron was no better the next day than Akron U.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

What happened in the ONU game?  Score anyone?
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Results for Week 5 of the pick-ems have been posted.

Just a word of warning, it wasn't pretty for some contestants........

Mount/B-W Game

First thoughts:

1. The Mount offense look very inefficient in the first half, but became
more effective in the second half. Rccco was holding the ball a long time.

2. Mount's Defense totally shut down the run, B-W had less than 50 yards
rushing and only 84 passing. Great Job!!

3. Special teams need some work, too many long kick-off returns.

4. The refs called the game tight, and Mount got caught several times.

5. The contacts and hits were very agressive, and probably gave way
    to some penalties

6. The wind was not significant, but the distance on the kick-off was
     way to shorter than normal.

This was a typical Mount/B-W hard hitting game, and I hope #56's Nintz
knee injury is only a sprain.

Mt's defense most impressive.  Bw defense impressive as well.   A well fought game from both schools.  Rocco was pressured tonight a lot.  He must of learned that a. he can not scramble  b. look to more than one  receiver during the game c. do not through into  triple coverage.  Seaman seems more steady and plays within himself.  Give him more PT.   Seaman showed tonight that he can through deep.  He had a couple of nice long spirals.  Too many turnovers for both teams.   Mt. back to making too many personal fouls.  Must have had over a 100 yards in that stat.  Get Cecil the ball any way you can.  He must have more touches.  A good effort by both teams.  Mt's first teams played the entire game.  Game ball to Mt's defense.  A quality effort.  Special teams somewhat improved but can still get better.   On to Bexley.

Jamal Robertson added 77 more yards on 15 carries and the only Argonauts TD today in their loss.

If I was a BW alum, I'd be screaming for John Snell to be replaced immediately.  What in the world is he thinking by trying a fake punt from the Mount 32 on a 4th and 1 early in the game?  BW was trailing 3-0 at the time and there wasn't a single person in the stadium that thought BW was actually going to punt.  The obvious and correct call was to go for it, but to do so with your offense, not your punt unit.  Snell must have forgotten the #1 rule in successful fake punts:  THEY WORK WHEN IT'S A SURPRISE against the punt return unit, not against the regular defense when they KNOW it's coming.  A fake punt from your opponents 32 yard line on 4th & 1 is just plain stupid.  The only surprise in that situation would have been if BW actually did punt it.

Then he back it up later in the game with another bone headed call (I think it was early 3rd qtr with the score 23-0) when he punted from the Mount 34 on a 4th and 3.  What in the world was he thinking?  You're on the road against the #1 team in the nation, down by 23 and relatively deep in MUC territory and you punt?  That's not real bright.  The only time I can ever see punting on 4th & 3 from your opponents 34 is if the weather and field conditions are horrible and the game is an absolute defensive battle where you're hoping to back the opponent up against their goal line to then get lucky enough to force a costly mistake.  Otherwise you're just giving up!

It looked like Snell was calling the game to not get blown out more than trying to be actually competitive.  I wonder if he particpates in our Pick-Em's and was one of the few guys that took BW to stay within 29.5???  Can anyone confirm the identities of Acky, Chess4me, Ereraider or gobash83?  Could one of these guys really be John Snell?

I watched the TV replay last night and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with T. Morring's performance.  He ran the ball well, made a great one handed catch and made several key blocks on Panchik runs.  Good for Morring.  If he can be consistently productive like last night that will be a big help for the offense in the future.

p.s. I didn't know if I would, but I think I kinda liked the black on black unis too.

I agree Morrings's performance was the best I seen. After seeing
the black over black uniforms, I do not think they look too bad. ;D

This coming week will be a good one, but I think that Mount's D
will be a huge factor at only 8.5 points per game. Need to shore up
the special teams.

My immediate thoughts on the game - I am still concerned about Rocco. I can't say he did this or that - he just doesn't seem to have adjusted/improved much since game 1. 1st half was a little painful to watch. I am used to seeing Mount dominate a game - but this one was different. Mount did not so much dominate (I know the stats say otherwise) as BW made mistakes that Mount capitalized on. I mean the 2 interceptions by Mount were key. Special teams really needs help - and fast. A good team like a UWW will make Mount pay on special teams (they have done it before).
On the uniforms - well I did not like them. EMBRACE THE PURPLE! I think the black uni's were one of the reasons Mount struggled early - the football gods weren't sure if they liked them either ;D. But in the end the gods decided they are only uniforms and if Oregon can win with 1 of a billion ugly combinations then Mount should not be stopped because of the allblacks (I hope I don't have to pay the New Zealand rugby team a fee for that reference).
