Hopefully Cap has them soon enough before they figure it out.

Is this Saturday "soon enough" for you?

I've read most, if not all, the dialogue regarding the official name change at Mount Union College. I'd prefer not to involve myself since I feel that's better left to the alumni and other "friends" of the institution. But, I just wanted to leave you with some food for thought from an American living abroad.  I've lived overseas for more than 20 years; I can tell you that a school with the title "College" attached has a very negative connotation among many potential international students.  Especially here in Korea, my home for the past 16 years, you'd be hard-pressed to find a student willing to attend anything other than a school with "University" associated with it. To a Korean, a College is a 2 year school, like a technical or trade school.  In the Korean educational system, getting a low score on the nationwide university entrance exam as a High School senior, means you will end up at a "College," for two years, if you go at all. A student in this boat has virtually no chance of landing in at a domestic "University."  Of course it's only semantics to us, but to a potential international student considering a life-changing decision like going abroad for education, name does make a huge difference.

If that is the case,  why has Mount Union College had so many foreign (mostly asian) students over the past 15 years?

There are a large number of Japanese students due to their sister school (Baika) in Osaka.  The majority of the Japanese students I met were from Baika.

Thanks for the international perspective.  Sometimes we forget that people of different cultures do not see the world through the same eyes we do in our little corner of the world.  The negative connotation associated with American names has been an issue since we became a global market.  The Chevy Nova struggles in Spanish speaking countries since it translated into "don't go."

I hate to be a pain but it's actually "doesn't go" in spanish. However, the Nova sold relatively well in Spanish speaking countries (MSN had a piece on it last week). In spanish it is "no va" (2 words) that translates that way not Nova (1word). Additionally, Pemex sells gasoline in Mexico under the name Nova - so they are/were familiar with the name.

I have to admit that Cap's offensive statistics are impressive, but they raise this question in my mind ... have they faced a defense even remotely similar to Mount's yet?

I'm struck by the irony that it's usually somebody questioning Mount Union's offense in the playoffs by asking that same question.

Do I ever feel uninformed and inadequate?  Thanks for the correction.  I'll be a better person for it.

reality check

This has to be the best week I've had to look forward to in a long time regarding football.  I'm heading home to Ohio to see my alma mater in action for a HS reunion.  I have the trip to ONU for homecoming and despite the fact that I'll be in attendance with Saintsfan, I'm really looking forward to being on campus again.  I'm calling the offense Wednesday night for our freshman game and because of illness I'll be calling the offense on JV Thursday as well.  I'm not trying to gloat but I am very pleased to have so much going on in the next couple days regarding the greatest game America has to offer.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)

Okay, I went ahead and looked it up for myself and the answer is a resounding no.

Capital hasn't seen anyone with the defensive ability of MUC.  Not even close.

But to be honest, Mount has only faced one good defense so far (Ohio Northern) and they didn't do a whole lot in that game.  Especially in the first half.  And I expect the the Capital defense to be better than ONU's by quite a margin.

All of this points to a much loser game than we're accustomed to.  Which means something like MUC 38 / Capital 13  ;D

Hmmm, a 25 point game?  Wonder where I've seen that spread before?
