Small but Slow

Mount Union should petition the NCAA to extend to triple digit numbers to avoid the duplication of numbers. ;)  Duplication is legal as long as both players are not on the field at the same time, it is just confusing.  Last year Prior and Jenkins both wore jersey #2 for OSU.

Or maybe petition to use numbers and letters. I'd love to hear an announcement along the lines of "attempting the field goal, number 10B ...".  :D

Giancola also wears #10.

HScoach,

We are midway the the season, so let's speculate on the finish for the OAC:

Mount Union  10-0
Capital           9-1
Otterbein       8-2
ONU              7-3
JCU               6-4
B-W              4-6
Muskingum     3-7
Heidelberg      3-7
Wilmington     3-7
Marietta        1-9

It will be interesting to think what other OAC posters think! :-\

That's an even better idea!  It would be awesome to hear the call touchdown pass 13A to 10A, 10 B on the field to attempt the point after.   Long Snap by 51C the holder 12B . . . and so on.

SaintsFAN

after seeing them on Saturday, I feel Heidelberg is poised to surprise a couple teams in the last month and half of the season.  Assuming they stay relatively healthy after playing Mount Union on Saturday (its understated how physical the games are with MUC), I see winnable games for The Student Princes with Wilmington, Marietta and Muskingum.... and potentially with B-W, if their receiver can get behind the coverage (#85).

I know the score didn't show it... but I really liked how hard Mike Hallett's team played, even with the score out-of-hand.  The QB was off on Saturday but with that WR they have, Heidelberg is dangerous..

I don't think they are too far from turning the corner and being an upper-half OAC team.

I'm a JCU fan, but for JCU to go 6-4, they'd have to beat (in addition to Muskingum, who they should beat) two out of ONU, Ott, MUC, and Cap, and I just don't see that happening.  They MIGHT take one of those (ONU or Ott) but not two.

It appears that being Mount Union and #1 you are not permitted to play a close game with a ranked team, and WIN, because if you do you will lose votes. I cannot agree with those who switched votes to WW and there will be those of you who will agree with switching votes to WW and to you I say   :P  ;D

I'm bored so I thought since we are half way through the season I would go back and look at how the current guys stack up statistically against the recent past so far this year.  I think we can all agree that the WR group is good so I just did QB and RB.  I wish MUC's archive went back beyond 03, but oh well.  Obviously MUC has 5 games plus playoff games so these can change drastically once the pressure/competition ramps up, but I thought it would just be fun to see.

QB (by efficiency)

1.  Micheli (2008).....209.13
2.  Burghardt (2003).....207.74
3.  Micheli (2007).....193.72
4.  Rocco (2009).....190.82
5.  Bruney (2003).....182.17
6.  Bruney (2004).....177.00
7.  Micheli (2006).....176.88
8.  Jorris (2005).....174.69
9.  Jorris (2006).....165.32

RB (yards per game w/ ypc listed also)

1.  Kmic (2008).....186.0.....7.4
2.  Kmic (2006).....157.7.....7.0
3.  Kmic (2007).....113.3.....6.2
4.  Kmic (2005).....110.8.....6.0
5.  Robinson (2005).....95.1.....5.9
6.  Panchik (2009).....89.2.....4.5
7.  Strauch (2004).....78.3.....6.0
8.  Ciccone (2004).....68.4.....4.6
9.  Ciccone (2003).....61.6.....4.5
10.  Strauch (2003).....58.3.....4.9

I'm not going to lie, Burghardt's numbers floored me.  I remember him being a dangerous runner and an able passer, but a 207 is better than "able".

It's a good thing I don't have a vote because I would have had UWW at #1 from the beginning.  They return too much from a Stagg runner-up and MUC lost too much from Whitewater to not be the clear cut #1 in my book.

With Capital getting close to 400 yards and leading Mount in the 4th quarter, I'm not surprised there are voters switching their #1.  Capital is a good team, but looking at Capital's final scores leading up to MUC it sure didn't point to Cap being a team that would push Mount to the edge.  It's not like Capital was drilling really good teams heading into Saturday's game.   Which of the following results would lead you to believe that Capital was good enough to take the clearly #1 team in the nation to the final minutes?
Cap 31 / Adrian 21
Cap 46 / H'berg 32
Cap 37 / Wilmington 21
Cap 37 / Marietta 13

For 90% of the voters that do nothing but look at the school name and the final scores, it's my guess that the only reason they're still voting MUC at #1 is because history says that MUC will be there in end.

Raider68:

On the OAC ranking thing, I'm too lazy to look up who still plays who to figure out the records, but here is where I think everyone will finish:

1. Mount Union
2. Capital
3. Otterbein
4. ONU
5. JCU
6. Heidelberg
7. B-W
8. Muskingum
9. Wilmington
10. Marietta
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Purpled,

I agree that changing votes mid stream is suspect. Mount has played 3 of 5 top rated teams already this season. I believe St. John Fisher was 10th at the time. The stats will improve on both sides of the ball  in the second half of the season given that Mount  has played the tougher part of the schedule and 3 of the first 5 away from home.

Not sure how many rated teams UWW has played. It appears that many
people think Mount is not as strong since they have not won each game
by 40-50 points so far this season. IMHO some tough games prepare you
better. Remember 2003 when Mount averaged over 50 points per game
and blew out Bridgewater 66-0 in the semi's, then lost the Stagg to St. John's!

I hope Cap wins out and gets seeded as they did in 2007 for the tourney! Would be nice to have a healthy Capital playing UWW for a match up as opposed to the many injuries they were coping with then, assuming the same scenario would develop! Cap would at least make it a better game if they were playing like they had on saturday.

I agree HsCoach, especially with what UWW was returning. Some would have to be crazy not to shift #1 votes as the season progresses, but also there is alot of season left to go so time will tell.

You can watch a lot of other sports already.

Wouldn't it have made sense to do Football first?

Once again coming to Lenny's rescue, some sports, like volleyball you can just set up a camera and go. Admitedly, if you televise, I'd like to up the quality from Cap's rather tedious video. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate  any video that any DIII school can get online, but we have production agreements in place for our home games and I'm not ready to suggest that Joe Tait become the voice of shakey webcam streaming video.

In other OAC news, I learned today that Heidelberg's last two home games will be real home games, as in on campus. They will be bringing in temporary seating to the field behind the Gym that normally only sees soccer to bring the excitement of a football game to campus instead of out at F-K stadium. This is not a rumor, but rather directly from the President of HU 's mouth at lunch today. He stopped short of commiting that they would consider investing in their own stadium, but it looks like that is where they are going.

Looks as though I maybe seeing a few more Heidelberg games in the future as my daughter is leaning towards Da Berg. We were more impressed with everything at Mount Union except the student environment which is still a good deal more homey at Heidelberg. Mount seems to have taken the glitzy, high maintenance, heavy marketing approach in recent years that quite honestly is kind of turning me off as well.

Now my son........ Totally different beast  ;)

I just looked into my closet and tried to imagine an orange and black sweatshirt in there with all that Green/White and Purple/White/Black. Gag
