All Rocco so far today. I guess Larry has his starter now. Sure we'll be seeing Seaman and others before the day is over

Congrats to Kurt Rocco, over 400 yards!

Good game for Rocco.   He appears to be coming on.         Way to go sw vest.   I am glad your bringing pryor along in his development as a big time QB.    He is learning how to commit multiple turnovers in a game and he still gets to stay in.  And all this happens against the last place team in the conference.  What a coach.   Prediction: a  loss to the team up north this year.

Solid win for ONU.  Heaphy sets a school record with a 50 yard FG.  Simmons had a great day through the air and had come a long way.  Adam Jones had a great game today recovering a fumble, intercepting a pass and securing a sack along with a couple tackles.  It's great to see him back on the field and contributing.  I imagine that football is good for him right now too.  God bless.

Great job by Rocco, Shorts and Morring!

What's Chocing?

'Berg had 333 yards of total offense? A little much for our defense to give up.

Speaking of Berg's offensive production...

I'm not saying MUC doesn't have a shot to win it all again so let's get that straight from the start.  But I'm surprised by the "relative" success that OAC has had through the first five contests against the Purple Raiders.  I know this MUC team had lots of holes to fill coming into this season offensively but the defense was already supposed to be rock-solid.  I mentioned earlier in this season that we've grown accustomed to reading the feet/inches per carry stats the MUC D has been giving up on the ground but this year it's been more YPC than IPC/FPC.  I'm just surprised how much the OAC is moving the ball through five games on the MUC defense.

Last year the OAC was getting outscored 48-6 per game and gave up 1.4 YPC and less than 160 yards per game in total offense.

In 2008 they gave up 8 TDs on their entire OAC season (3 to OTT, 2 to Musky and 1 each to ONU, CAP and JCU).  This year through five OAC contests, the Raiders have surrendered 8 TD's already and are scoring 8 points fewer per game.  I'm not trying to suggest the sky is falling on the Purple Raider kingdom.  I'm just surprised the defense seems to be giving up more points and allowing 50+ yards more per game.  I expected to see a little less scoring from the Purple Raiders but also expected single digit scoring from most opponents.  Is anyone else surprised that MUC is not bettering their defensive numbers from last year against what I thought was a weaker than usual OAC?  If the trend continues, MUC could give up 13-14 TD's to OAC opponents.

For reference sake:

2008 - 8 total OAC opponent TDs
2007 - 2 total OAC opponent TDs (both by OTT, Berg got a FG and everyone else was shut out)
2006 - 10 total OAC opponent TDs
2005 - 8 total OAC opponent TDs (3 coming in the ONU loss)
2004 - 9 total OAC opponent TDs
2003 - 5 total OAC opponent TDs
2002 - 11 total OAC opponent TDs
2001 - 10 total OAC opponent TDs
2000 - 15 total OAC opponent TDs

And that's as far as I could go with Ric's site (THANKS RIC!!!)

I was just looking at the standings on the Main Site and saw that the only shutout by MUC this year is against BW.

Who would've thought that by now?

I also think that the defense has given up more "long scoring drives" than they have in the past.

I was thinking today abut how lights-out our defense used to be IF the opponent made it into the redzone.  Not this year.  If that fumble touchback hadn't happened (pure bad luck) that was another Berg score.

RC,

Great post.  I'm surprised and disappointed by the defensive play so far.  I expected the offense to struggle without Micheli and Kmic, but the defense should have been great.  However, they've been very average.  On D, I've been most disappointed with the secondary, especially safety Roger Stewart.  He's been watching too much Sports Center.  Continually going for the big hit instead of making the sure tackle.

Not sure what's wrong with the D.

RC,

Good analysis! I am a sensible fan and I agree that the Mount "D" performance is surprising so far this year. They will have to get back to
the techniques and defensive strategy they had in the past years. On the other side, the OAC offenses have improved this year, given the overall offensive numbers.

Give some credit.. Hallett has some playmakers on offense.

that he has.  the WR #85 and the RB, Lewis had great games.  The Berg needs to bring in some athletic linemen rather than the short, round middle linemen to have an effective offense.  The pieces are there, but the QB was basically throwing jumpballs to #85 on two step drops as their passing game.  This was the best Berg team that I have seen in my time watching the Raiders.  It was a better than expected showing by the Student Princes...but what's with the sideline cheers? a little too softball for my taste

I would like to point out that the Mount D has been in more close game situations this season than in the past few seasons. Recently, Mount would have been up big early with an all-time great offense and the opponents would be pressed into a one dimensional offense.  However this year with the offense "struggling," the defense has been put into more real game situations.  I, for one, like that the team is in more "close" games this season...it should pay dividends later.   But I agree with the comment about some of the tackling being more about the knockout blow rather than wrapping up

I'm not a MUC fan or follower, but I'd like to think I'm sensible -- As a UWW guy, I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes with this analysis...

This is what immediately sticks out at me and I find rather curious --

Statisically, the two years with the lowest td's allowed, 2007 (2) and 2003 (5), - Mount loses Stagg Bowls that they play in. Yet, the years with the most td's allowed, they win the Stagg ('04 excluded).  Go figure!!   :o  I guess some things just take a WIAC education to see. ;)  Might the fact that the Purple Raiders have given up 9 so far this year be a foreshadow to a coming event?   :-\
