I hate that this thread has gotten so far off-track with this discussion, but I don't think what you're saying is fair or truthful.

And that would make you wrong.  To each his own.

Having the scholarship recipient state that he was getting a bogus community leadership scholarship isn't what I would describe as "flimsy".

JK

It was surprising that the series has been so even.  What's more interesting about this one is that each team has spoiled the other team when they were the favorite.  This is probably the first time in a decade where both teams come in as top tier at the same time and the underdog/favorite is truly debatable.  I hope it lives up to its potential.

The problem is that anyone can make such a claim on an anonymous message board.  If someone came on here and stated (as truth) that he knew a kid that received bogus leadership scholarships to play football at Ohio Northern, how would you react?  How would you defend your school?  Would you simply accept it as legit?  I highly doubt that...

Reality Check has a lot more credibility on this board than you do right now.  I believe him as he has been a truthful, responsible, and intelligent poster on here for years.

You know what, I'm new here and I respect that.  I don't think he's lying, I just think he's got incorrect information and his claim is a bit unfair.  I'd caution anyone reading this (or any other post on any forum) to take with a grain of salt second- or third-hand information passed along on an internet message board, regardless of how long the person making the comment has been a member of the community.

But, either way, I don't want to ruffle any feathers so I'll let it go.  Let's talk OAC football!

CarrollStreaks,
Don't let these guys push you around! If your not for Mount or ONU you get beat down. Don't know anything about the so-called scholarships.

Your right, Dayton is a Basketball School and would not give up scholarships for Football.

My son is a UD grad. You have got to love the Ghetto and the DarkSide.

He is saying that he has first hand knowledge from the recruit.  I have conversed with RC long enough on this board to trust him on that.  More than you coming on here and stirring the pot.

No one is pushing anyone around Old scot.  He is the one who is a newbie, coming on here calling RC a liar.  And I am the one who threw out BB in my post, not RC.  I didn't have any first hand knowledge of that, but did hear rumors of track and baseball scholarships being given to Football players in the late 80s early 90s.  I never claimed to have first hand knowledge, just heard the rumors and that is how I stated it.  Go back to the NCAC board unless you have something productive to add.

Also, it is "you're" not "your".  You're is the conjunction of you + are and your is an adjective meaning "to possess."

Kirasdad,
Thanks for the english lesson.  I like the OAC board more than the NCAC. I have grown tired of Wabash posters. I  have been accussed  of being a Mount hated, which I'm not. I pull for the Raiders and love there dominants.

You guys never seem to take an objective point of veiw. Until someone steps up and says I recieved a "community/leadership scholarship to play football for UD" , it is all here say.

Small but Slow

I've been told of several recruits being offered similar "Leadership" types of scholarships over the years by several schools.  None of which I can confirm, but tend to find believable.  All schools have scholarship funds that they use at their discretion.  UD is recruiting one of my former players, and I've heard among financial assistance offers he's received is based on his character, community involvement, and religious affiliation.  Based on the claims UD is not the only school offering such assitance.  The athlete in question may well have earned the scholarship based on his resume. I know of students receiving money based everything from a parent serving in the military or as a public servant (police or fire fighter).  I'm hoping my son will receive financial assistance for me being a poor teacher.

Small but Slow

I realize my previous comment leaves me wide open for abuse.  Enjoy!

Defending my alma mater against a piece of anecdotal evidence on a message board is considered "stirring the pot"?  As a Mount Union fan, I'm guessing you've battled against similar, or even more derogatory claims made against your program.  How you can unquestioningly side with the accuser here is hard for me to understand.

For the record, I never called him a liar.  I simply questioned his evidence.

If someone came on here and said they knew of a Mount Union football player that said he was receiving a scholarship that he didn't deserve, and that a lot of his fellow players received similar aid, I'm sure you and a whole host of other Raider fans would challenge that assertion.  And I'm sure it wouldn't matter how many posts that person had, or how long he'd been a member of the message board.

Getting this thread back on topic, I have a question:

Would it at all possible for the OAC to end up with three bids to the NCAA playoffs?  It seems to me that if there were ever year that it could/should happen, this is it.

I would say that it is unlikely.  It would need to be a three-way at the top, imo: meaning Cap beats OTT, and OTT beats MUC and all three end up at 8-1 in conference.  I still dont know if that would be enough to create 3 spots for the OAC in a "down year" for MUC.

Sort of a similar situation in 2005 when ONU beat MUC.  MUC finished at 8-1 and ONU and Cap were 7-2, and only MUC and Cap made the playoffs.  Where they met and had one hell of a game by the way.  Cap was the #2 team in the nation that year, imo.

Without question, Capital was the #2 team in the nation that year.

Quote from: seventiesraider on October 20, 2009, 09:58:22 PMHey, I'd pay to watch JCU play Creighton in basketball ;D After all, I'm paying $5.00 to watch the Mount-Akron Exhibition game. I've seen them pay for real in Memorial Hall in Alliance before it became the parking lot for the MAAC.

Huh?  ???

Mount and Akron were still playing in Track and Basketball into the mid to late '60s

Mount played at Akron in the early 00's during the regular season.  The Raiders went toe to toe with them until Richard Jackson fouled out late in the 2nd half.  I remember Todd Richards had a big game.

To get back to football...is anyone going to the Cap/Ott game?  I was planning on it, but I have to work until 3pm now so I won't make it.  Disappointed because that should be a good one.
