anybody know if Panchik is going to play this week, or why he was out against the Berg? Thanks

....and back to scholarship talk

I can buy truthful and even responsible but since ONU has No PBK chapter I don know about intelligent. ;D

The problem is that anyone can make such a claim on an anonymous message board.  If someone came on here and stated (as truth) that he knew a kid that received bogus leadership scholarships to play football at Ohio Northern, how would you react?  How would you defend your school?  Would you simply accept it as legit?  I highly doubt that...

Reality Check has a lot more credibility on this board than you do right now.  I believe him as he has been a truthful, responsible, and intelligent poster on here for years.

I asked that question about Panchik's injury early in the week, but no
one seems to know his status. Was he held out of the game for other
reasons ( I hope not). Maybe someone has some info now?

On the Dayton discussion, what is NOT debatable is Dayton giving D1 track scholarships to football players back in the 80's.

Hence the "Dayton rule" being put into effect by the NCAA.

During my four year bench career the strides that the program at Capital made from 1998-2001 is best illustrated by the fact that in 1998 we lost to Hiram and by 2001 we beat John Carroll and Baldwin-Wallace.
e lee,
Do you remember the Captial coach's quote in the Columbus Post about the thought of Mount Union making him weak in the knees?  I still have a clip of that article somewhere.  My brother mailed it to me.  I think it was the Saturday edition in 1997, the day Captial played Mount.  Unbelievable.
The coach didn't return the following year.  They brought in Jim Collins.

In 1997 I was a high school junior in Jefferson, Ohio who had never heard of Capital University.  And the coach who said that, did return the next year, just as the Athletic Director, a position he did a great job at as his biggest job was getting the Capital Center built.

CarrollStreaks,
Don't let these guys push you around! If your not for Mount or ONU you get beat down. Don't know anything about the so-called scholarships.

Your right, Dayton is a Basketball School and would not give up scholarships for Football.

No one is pushing anyone around Old scot.  He is the one who is a newbie, coming on here calling RC a liar.  And I am the one who threw out BB in my post, not RC.

For the record, I never called him a liar.  I simply questioned his evidence.

If someone came on here and said they knew of a Mount Union football player that said he was receiving a scholarship that he didn't deserve, and that a lot of his fellow players received similar aid, I'm sure you and a whole host of other Raider fans would challenge that assertion.  And I'm sure it wouldn't matter how many posts that person had, or how long he'd been a member of the message board.
actually I would be surprised if most schools don't give out financial aid to athletes in a somewhat more generous manner than an "ordinary" student.  For example a leadership scholarship by definition is a pretty loose concept and can be applied to a lot of aspects of a young adult's life.  Wouldn't being a leader on the football field qualify for such a defintion.  I am not saying there is blatant cheating going on but even for non-athletes you can negotiate with a financial aid office.  I have done it and it has paid off and if my child was an athlete I would certainly use that as part of my argument.  To me there is nothing cheating about it.

cufan

Runyr....that coach was also the last Captial coach to beat Mount.

Unfortunately your success in football especially in the OAC hinges on the support of the Administration.  In the mid 90's Caps financial packages was a joke.  Package that with playing and practicing in a crappy stadium doesn't spark the interest of top players.

reality check

Lots of action since my last post...

Let me address two things.

If someone claimed ONU was handing out less-than-genuine community-service or leadership scholarships, I would absolutely have no reaction other than to laugh.  That's because I know ONU offers no such scholarships.

Old Scot

I'm so proud right now.  You pretty much said that anyone that bashes MUC or ONU gets run out.  I guess that means I'm as scary as all the Mount posters combined since there are dozens of Purple Raider fans here to defend their school and all ONU has on a consistent basis is little old me.

At least you're right about the Ghetto.  When I was 13, my brother was dating a girl in one of the houses on Alberta St.  I was dragged to many a house party while my responsible brother "watched" me on weekends.  I did my first kegstand in the Ghetto on St. Patty's Day weekend before they used to shut the campus down.  Maybe I'm one of the reasons?!?!
