D3 Top Four Defenses  (pts allowed thru 9 games):

UW-Whitewater      63 pts
Wesley                    74
Mary Hardin-Baylor  83
Mount Union            83

Nobody's scored more than 14 pts against Whitewater.

#15 Otterbein turned the ball over 6 times to Mount Union's defense yesterday. Yikes, no wonder they were blown out 58-7.

Obviously all four of these teams have great defenses. To give added perspective on UW-W's defense, they have given up a total of 26 points in the first three quarters of games this year (That's 26 points in 27 quarters). In the 4th quarter, largely playing with their second unit, they have given up 37 of their 63 points.

Well on the Mount side of things they have given up 28 4th quarter points playing back-ups so the 83 points is somewhat misleading. The exception to this is Capital (starters were in) and they only scored 7 in the 4th. Mounts starting D is closer to 62 points for the year. Regardless all of teams listed in the graphic probably have similar stories.

Let's not forget, Wittenberg has given up only 47 points in 9 games.  I know, they haven't played anyone, except maybe Wabash, but 5.22  ppg shouldn't be overlooked, although they may not be in the class of your four.....

I watched the rebroadcast on STO and have a few comments to pass along. First and foremost - Petruziello is an absolute stud! The hit he took was bone jarring - and he held onto the ball (Ted Ginn Jr. can't hold onto it without the hit and he makes millions a year). Second Rocco looks much better than he did in the beginning, better each week, and that can't be a bad thing for the Raiders. Third, Morring looks more like he did 2 years ago (he looked much quicker against the Otters). Nice to see him hit his stride before the playoffs - him and Panchick make a nice combo in the backfield. Lastly, a note to the Otters QB: When the 800 lb. gorilla is in your conference and appears to be 'having a down year' - don't point it out to them!!! Especially when your team has not beaten them in 31 years!!! Nice job by the Mount D.

OK but they play in an academic conference. The previous comments were about football, not the teams cumulative GPA.  ;D Additionally, Witt gets to play Hiram - who couldn't score on a third world prostitute (sorry, did not mean to offend any third world prostitutes that may be on the board).

Now be fair!  Witt also doesn't play Wilma, Etta, or Musky! ;)

Ummmmm yea it should be overlooked.  Witt would give up points to Marietta, Wilmington, and Musky in non-cleanup time of the game.

I'm interested in seeing if the OAC gets a 2nd Team in...In the past the Pool C bid from the conference has been successful in making a run in the tournament except in the past 2 years where the columbus schools dropped the baton.  I hope ONU gets fair consideration.

Sorry about that.  Ididn't intentionally leave them out.  I should have at least mentioned Wittenburg defense's 47 pts.  I'd like to believe Witt should be in same company as four mentioned, but much of their competition remains suspect.  The Hiram Pups, etc haven't been known for football prowess lately.

If you read my posts about OTT over the last few years (and please don't....because that will mean you have more issues than I do..and that's scary), I have always questioned their "rise to prominence", and doubted they were nothing more than pretenders.  I judge teams (obviously) on how they play Mount.  CAP & ONU have risen to the occasion in past years.  Both REALLY did so this year.

If somehow OTT wins next week, and an 8-2 team gets into the play-offs, and it ends up being THEM...it will be really bad for the OAC.  ONU is deserving, and I am now buying into the fact that their offense is much better then it was in  week 3.

Honestly, I thought #12 showed some grit, but no real QB sense with his choices in throwing the football at times.  But he is young, and he showed grit playing through a bad ankle.  It was obvious that he was limping, and not 100%.  Hopefully he just shuts his mouth, gets better, and challenges Mount in the coming years.

I think #9 was melting down because he was getting his arse kicked, and wanted to blame it on someone else.  When he got called out on it, he flipped out.  I was being nice earlier......I saw a team fold upon itself yesterday when faced with adversity.  OTT showed no grit, determination, or toughness.

Just sayin'.......

New d3 poll is out.  First place votes remain the same, 19-6 in favor of MUC.

ONU jumps up 4 spots to 13 after defeating CAP and OTT falls 8 spots from 15 to 23.  CAP slips out of the top 25 with the loss.  There were no changes to the top 11 slots from last week to this week.

Not many top 15 teams figure to have tough games in the final week so very little room for ONU to move up.  Wesley plays Ohio Dominican (NAIA) who is 7-2 and Thomas More plays undefeated MSJ but both teams have playoff slots secured.  There just isn't much room for ONU to move up and position itself but the higher they are, the better they have to look in the eyes of the committee.  In 2004 ONU was 15th in the Week 11 poll and in 2005 they sat at 20th.  This figures to be the highest-ranked ONU team with 2 losses.

RC,
I know its been said before but the top 25 poll has nothing to do with who makes the playoff field. It's all about the regional rankings. If ONU doesn't show up in the regional rankings this week their chances of getting to the table next Sunday are on life support.

To be really fair.  Wilma, Etta and Musky would finish in the top half of the NCAC.

I completely agree.   Otterbein doesn't have the balls to play the big boys.  Which is why I hope they don't make the playoffs.  They'll just piss down their leg and make the OAC look bad.   At least when Capital made it a few years ago with a decimated team, they played hard and pushed Whitewater into the 4th quarter.  Otterbein proved last year by giving up 500+ yards passing to Franklin and again against MUC that they'll fold if tested.

As the president of the OAC Offensive Behavoir Committee, I find your statement about 3rd world prostitutes completely harmless.

I too, was disappointed with the way that Otterbein imploded Saturday....was difficult to watch.
after listening to the pod cast for the week, if I understand the muddy picture, if it would come down to a pool C bid between Otterbein and ONU, Otterbein would more than likely get it....which  would be a huge mistake, for  when Otterbein gets hammered in the first round, look really bad for the OAC...

The OAC would be better off if they get no pool C bid if Otterbein is the choice...
