Slow start, marching backwards for awhile, but MUC up 35-0 at the half

reality check

Late game updates:

CAP just scored to make it 48-24 late in the 4th over BW.  (spread-buster)

JCU scores with 42 seconds left to get within 2 of OTT but 2 point conversion fails.  24-22 OTT wins.

ONU scores season high 52 points giving up 14 in the second half to win an easy one in Wilma.

MUC holds onto the shutout and wins 56-0 after slow start.

Muskingum wins 31-28 over Heidelberg.

reality check

BW scores, gets the 2 pt conversion and recovers an onside kick, marches to the 12 and scores on a Gardner QB keeper with no time on the clock.  A 24 point game (with hscoach's favorite holding on) turned into a 10 point win (with the underdog easily beating the spread) in about a minute.

Heck, I'm trying to catch the thirteen year old.

The 13-year old will have to rush his picks tonight as he is in football playoffs tomorrow morning.  [Sorry, too small to be MUC material, unless he learns to kick!]

He wants to know if you went to UMUC in the 70s, or your age is in the 70s?   ::)

I graduated from Mount in 2002. That should clear things up.  :D
So, 70 refers to the number of years you were in school?

Started during the term of the sixth college president and graduated during the term of the 11th. Picked up my education credits during the term of the 12th. I and I think most of Mount Union could have lived without the 11th. (Did I mention all the Acting Presidents)

WHAT?

You started with Bracy ('52-'67) and ended with Giese ('05-...)?  Who are you?  Blutarski?
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

I hope this isn't an omen but consider this fact:

After today's efforts, 4 OAC backs cleared 1,000 yards on the season (ONU's Donley:1104, MAR's Hunter:1030, OTT's Coy: 1013 and CAP's D'Andrea:1003).  Scott Panchik finishes the regular season with just over 600 yards.  With four 1000 yard backs it's virtually guaranteed that Scott Panchik is a second-team All-OAC RB at best.

The last time Mount failed to have a first-team All-OAC RB???

2004 - Rick Ciccione 2nd Team - - - - - - - - - - > MUC loses in the semis to UMHB

The last time Mount failed to have a first-team All-OAC RB before that???

2003 - Brian Miller 2nd Team - - - - - - - - - - - > MUC loses in the Stagg to St. John's

:-\ UH OH :-\

On another note, this is the first time Capital has had a 1000 yard runner since 1970 (Mike Goodman) and coincidentally it's only the second time in Capital history that there's been a 1000 yard runner.  That's wild!

Interesting stats by RC.  However Shorts showed some moves today with flanker end arounds and his speed was no match for MC.  He is the variable Mt. did not have in those years RC mentioned.

Cost my parents plenty. Ended up with old party buddies as professors. Beats spending 36 years in the Army.

A personal thought: a 32 team field that does not include Ohio Northern would be a joke. Of course a team playing like ONU could really shake things up, especially if they do end up as an eigth seed

BTW-The Who as the half-time show for the SuperBowl?? Get ready for your kids to be asking why the guys that do the CSI themes songs are singing at halftime

Great job by the D today.

Did it seem strange to the rest of you who were at the Mount game that the 1st quarter was a mess of penalties and after that hardly a one?

Sometimes Rocco acts like a freshman Senior and other times a seasoned Senior.

Great job Cecil! Speed kills, eh?

Strange, indeed, about all the penalties in the first quarter.   That was maybe the worst quarter for penalties I have ever seen for Mount.    Stranger yet was the cheerleaders.   Did anyone notice that after the fourth score, the chearleader did 22 pushups.  Then they realized they didn't do 28!    So they decided to do the 28.

HScoach

Results for Week 11 have been posted.  Congrats to Reality Check for winning the 2009 Regular Season OAC Pick-Em Contest!

Hope he gets to celebrate his win with an ONU Poll C selection, but it doesn't look good.  Needed Depauw to beat Wabash.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Raider 68

A  good win for the Raiders, hats off to the defense. The offense was flat in the first quarter, with  Rocco waiting (too long) for his receivers to get open. A good time-out by Coach Kehres and a few choice words and the offense came alive.

Now its time for the playoffs and see who comes to Alliance!

I really hope ONU sneaks into the playoffs as I believe they are 1 of only 2 North Region teams that could give Whitewater a decent game.  With Illinois Wesleyan being the other.  The rest of the region is dead meat.

I know my lobbying means nothing to the committee but here it is anyways based on hscoach's most recent comment.

ONU is riding a 7 game winning streak in which it's averaging 40.5 points per contest while giving up just 15 a game.

As far as playmakers go, ONU has a league-leading RB who has 16 TD's on the regular season, just two off the pace of Jamal Robertson's school record 18 in 10 games.

Kyle Simmons is more efficient and dangerous than given credit for.  He's thrown for more yards this season than he did in the previous two combined.  He has thrown for 1800 yards and run for another 400+ yards as well as 10 TD's on the ground.  His TD/INT ratio this season is 16:5 (career TD/INT ratio is 32:7).  Teams must gameplan to stop Simmons this year and few have been successful shutting down both aspects of his game.

ONU has no single head and shoulders threat at WR but they've got three guys that provide skills uniquely of their own.  Justin Linzy is a great short yardage threat who does a great job with YAC.  Ryan Fleming is a big play threat who leads the team in yardage and is good for over 25 YPC.  Jay Priest is a little bit of both and is sure-handed as a possession receiver.

I think the defense is solid as a unit and their +13 TO margin is evidence of their playmaking ability.  They arguably have the best kicker in the conference.  This offense can put up numbers and the defense is aggressive.  They have all the tools for a playoff run.  Now they just need a chance.
