I just listened to the playoff podcast with Pat and Keith. BTW, thanks guys for everything you do with this site. I was hoping to hear some rationale as to why ONU as the 13th rated team nationally was not in the playoffs. There was no good reason. There is no way W&J goes 9-1 in the OAC and their SOS is simply pitiful. I'm not sure what the committee's goal was but it could not have been to place the best teams in the playoffs. It looks like the cupcake schedule is rewarded. Oberlin may be in demand for future non –conference scheduling.

I really would have liked to have seen an ONU-Witt matchup and to see how far the polar bears could have gone.

I keep hearing about "cupcake scheduling" (not just here) and don't see how it applies to ONU.  They beat their non-conference opponent.  Their problem was losing to OTT.  If you are 9-1 in the OAC and in second place you can almost guarantee a playoff spot.  Just tough when you lose 2 in conference and don't make it.  But can be understood.

Andrew

Welcome aboard.  You've had a great run at ONU and I hope you stick around.  We could use another regular representing our Polar Bears.  Agree with just about everything you said.  I've always wondered how the Englewood/Miamisburg thing worked out.  Why not Northmont?

used to live in the good ole' Burg, the family moved to Boly country the summer after I graduated. my little brother had the opportunity to play for Coach Schneider, but really didnt take advantage of it. Oh well

RC, Ive read that you are a CJ alum......what year if you dont mind me asking? my mother and aunt all went there in the late 70s and my grandmother worked there as a secretary at the same time

I graduated CJ in 99.  My parents live in Harrison Township and I have plenty of freinds in Englewood/Clayton.  My wife's cousin was a Miamisburg guy (Billy Updyke).  Maybe you know the name?

I played one year at ONU during that 1999 season.  I completely destroyed my knee in late October thanks to a freak collision with Kendall Knight.  Needless to say, I lost.  I stuck around and helped film a little as a soph while I rehabbed but I decided my football days were over.  I was recruited as a long-snapper and came to ONU to learn to be an outside backer after spending 4 years at CJ as an undersized OL.  I was in the same freshman linebacker class as Brad Lohr and Kurt Hartman (who were both seeing significant minutes and outplaying upperclassmen as freshmen).  I decided to move to the radio booth and worked for WONB for three years in the sports dept covering primarily basketball and volleyball.  I was also highly involved at the admissions office, the Freed Center and as an overnight host on campus.

I was at the Heidelberg game this year and saw you guys play.  I am very proud of where the program sits under Coach Paul.  He gave us our second tour of the football facilities after we made our way down to the field for post-game.  You know this already but you've got some amazing facilities and a great coaching staff.  I'm proud of being a small piece in the 11-2 1999 team but I would love to play today at Dial-Roberson under your coaches.

Congrats again on a great career in the trenches at ONU.

Oh, and not to come off as a jerk, but I visit the hoops boards pretty regularly, especially the last few years with Cap's basketball program being at or near the top of the conference.  I haven't ever seen you in there...  There were some great Cap-JCU hoops battles the last few years that I would have loved to talk about, but no one engaged me other than a few Wooster guys who live in the C-Bus area and went to the games.

I noticed that his first posts were on this board earlier this season, so I imagine this will be his first season the the hoops board.

And I agree about the whole emotions getting the best of you thing.  That happened to me a few Mondays ago, and all it accomplished was costing me [karma, credibility, dignity] points.

BashDad

HScoach,

I've seen your posts on other boards offering that IWU is the only team in the north bracket that can give UWW a ball game. What have you seen that would suggest they're that much better than Wabash? Or Witt, for that matter? Feel free to respond on the NCAC board...

I was checking out the season stats for MUC today and noticed that TE Kyle Miller might be the most efficient player in the nation.  8 TD in only 17 rec.  The other TE Harrold with 8 rec and 2 TD.  Numbers like these are one of the reason that I think the Mount TE's are going to be the wild card in the playoffs and hopefully the Stagg.  Also, both being 6-5" doesn't hurt in the red zone.

PurpleSuit,

I agree and I have watched them closely this season. Miller at 6'6', 260
and Harrold at 6"5, 230 are not only good blockers and have good hands, but are key during the playoffs. Most LB's will not be able to handle them and you are right in that they could be the wild card that no one else has!

OK Mount fans, what will we see this playoff season that we have not seen before?  ;D

Ok, what will we see besides Coach Kehres against his former player as coach of a playoff team!

Sorry, been a bit busy lately...

Someone already mentioned, but congrats to Dominic D'Andrea for becoming only the second RB in Capital's history to go over 1000 yards rushing on the year.  Yes, you read that correctly.  The SECOND.  THere were others who were close (I blocked for a guy we got to 900- Jason Lizzi), and ended up with 1st Team all OAC on their resumes like O'Bryant O'Neal, Rayshaun Gayles, and COlin O'Riley but only Goodman and D'Andrea have hit the 1000 yard mark.  Pretty amazing.  Really amazing that despite that, he might not even get 1st team all OAC with 4 going over 1000.

I think it also bears mention that Capital just finished their most successful DECADE in football with 72 wins in 107 games.  THat is far and away the most wins in a decade.  The second most wins was the 80's when they had 49.  So, in other words, the 00's was the FIRST winning decade in Cap football history.  Many thanks to Coach Bickel and especially Coach Collins for that.

I personally think ONU got jobbed, but you know, that's the way it works.  We say every year in this forum, if you lose to someone other than MUC, you really take your chances.  Any less than 9-1 is asking to be left out.  Capital got the good end of it in 2005 and that's really been the only time, ONU has been snubbed a couple of different times.  I know it is frustrating, but that is what we live with.  No system is perfect, but I'd rather have this discussion than the inane BCS discussions in D1.

I am kinda glad now that ONU beat Cap so I wouldn't be the one feeling like we got jobbed at 8-2... (nah, not really...)

Chill man.  None of the non-MUC faithful kotow to the purple machine in here, especially Reality.  In fact, he is one of the few who will stand up to the MUC fans with good arguments, hence his longevity in here.  You seem equipped to carry on intelligent conversations supported by facts, just don't let your emotions get the best of you.  And then, don't inflame the situation by getting bent when someone responds in a way you don't like.

How much longer do I have to keep this stupid bird in my profile???

If I recall correctly, it was in your profile until next year's kickoff??.....maybe a poll among posters??

Small but Slow

MUC and W&J are about as familiar with each other as two teams can be.  This makes for a very interesting matchup for the first round.  Wonder if the pairing committee took this into account when they paired them together?  The two teams have scrimmaged for at least the last 25 years and play at the jv level regularly.  That along with the HC ties may bring some intrigue to the first round.

Agree, but unlike the past few years this W & J team has not been one of
Coach Sirianni's best.  It will be a good game, but the spread is very high
based upon both schools knowing each other so well.

OTTERBEIN BEAT OHIO NORTHERN!

Anyways, keep talking smack and poking fun at Coach Scafe.  At least one of his better teams did something that ONU football has never done, that is, get in the playoffs (that part's important, silly Polar Bear fan) and win a few games.  :o

Now this is the part where you start talking about other sports or regular season accomplishments again.  None of that matters.  This upcoming Saturday, you and Dean Paul can wear your matching Mount Union sweatshirts and cheer on your beloved Raiders as they embark on another playoff run.  Because that's the closest either one of you, or any other Ohio Northern fan, is going to ever get to making a nice playoff run of your own as long as you keep genuflecting to the Purple gods.

Have fun with that.  I'll see you on the basketball forum.

Good job Skippy.  OTT did beat ONU.  I bet you tie your own shoes too!  I'm so proud of you.

But seriously... you're an idiot.  ONU won two games in 1999 when they went 11-2 before bowing out to MUC in the third round.  They've never had the fortune of being shipped out of MUC's bracket so that they could make a run.   So by definition, they've done exactly what you say they have never done.  More stellar analysis on your part.

Usually we get to listen to other slack-jaws that come in here around playoff time saying stupid stuff and entertaining everyone.  Instead it's a newbie Streaks fan that has the honor.

And you won't be seeing me in the hoops forum.  Thank God.  You can stay over there as long as you want.

70-0 still has to sting.

Doeder?  Doeder?  Doeder?

HAS to sting.........still.....love it.

When Mount Union is naming their score and shutting out their opponents on a weekly basis, one 70 spot doesn't hurt that much.  That game, in the grand scheme of things, meant very little.  It stings much less than a 50-25 loss to a team coached by a guy that is now an apparent OAC laughingstock, especially considering that loss in all "reality" prevented said team from earning a playoff berth.

i guess no that I am officially an alum, I can actually start participating in these dialogues instead of simply reading them and laughing or pondering the different speculations

CarrollStreaks is right, we didnt get into the playoffs in 2005, even when we beat mount, but that had more to do with the NCAA Sanctions from when coach Kaz and his staff were turned into the NCAA by the University for holding illegal practices than it did strength of schedule.

Another key difference this year was that ONU lost to the #1 and #9 ranked team in the country, and because of how the strength of schedule plays out along with how they finished the season, those two losses are still better than W&J losing to a team that is possibly unranked or ranked near the higher end of the top 25.

Either way I can assure you of two things:
1) Being in the conference room today to find out you didnt make the playoffs, while a 6-4 team reeived an automatic bid and the at large bids went to a number of 9-1 teams who will be crushed by anyone decent is absolutely sickening
2) CarrollStreaks should be angry for the way his team plays--Coach Scafe is a true student of the game, it is simply a lack of execution by his players

So you agree that had your team been in the PAC, you'd be playing football next Saturday?  But hey, at least one day you can tell your grandkids that you only lost to Mount Union by 20.

^ Other than the word "apparent", that's the most accurate thing you've posted to date.

Either way, still pretty pathetic for ONU to lose that game then.

I just found this board about a month ago.  I'll be posting over there for basketball season.

As for Reality Check, he's been a d-bag since day one.  And I have yet to see anything that remotely looks like him "standing up" to Purple Raider fans.  His been carrying their jockstrops for at least the past month, probably longer.
