A quick note on the whole 'MUC dragging down the OAC...moving to MAC...going independent'. Let's not forget that Mount Union was not always MOUNT UNION! THEE MOUNT UNION was built year after year into what it is. LK was quoted as saying 'we got tired of complaining about what we didn't have and decided to focus on what we did have'...or something to that extent (it's in my signature line). The point is that there was a time when Mount was average (gasp!) and they did not become the force they are because all the powerhouses left. They beat the teams they were supposed to beat - and they started to beat the ones they weren't supposed to beat (Dayton back in the day). Jim Ballard was quoted as saying that the Rowan teams were more talented - but Mount found a way to win. Maybe the rest of the OAC can learn something from that - until then I will quote the tat' I got when I became a Sgt. in the Army: "How 'bout a nice hot cup of SHUT THE HELL UP!" Whining will get you many things - but it won't get you victories and it certainly won't get you championships. If you want to be the best - then beat the best. Every OAC team gets a shot at Mount every single year. If they can't figure out a way to win, or keep it close, maybe they are the problem - not Mount.

I've been a long-time reader of this site but have not posted until now. Every year you seem to go through the same scenerio; Mount should move up a division or Mount should become an independent or there should be another division for top echelon teams in the OAC. The answer to having someone else win the OAC is surely not "getting rid of the competition" by moving them; it's bringing your team UP ! There's no secret - play better !!

The idea of using the rulesmakers to overcome a seemingly unbeatable opponent is borrowed from the drag racers. When Ford and Chevy were getting cleaned by the Chrysler Hemi, they begged the rules committe to outlaw the motor. If you cant beat em...outlaw em. MUC take heed! Some lawyer somewhere is preparing a case to have you "Hemi'ed so they can win a championship too. Now, there is a winning gameplan for ya!  ::)  MUC better open up a law school to keep the playing field level. ;)

The plan is to stick with the spread system we installed this year.  I developed a wildcat package that I don't like calling a wildcat package because it's basically just a zone blocking scheme with fly sweep action from gun run by our run-friendly QB or a TB with a single back flanking.

The season before, they ran a real basic I formation offense that lacked some imagination.  The spread system we're running may not be perfect but it beats putting in a third system in three years for these kids.  I talked to Coach Place today and he's going to be sharing his playbook (split back veer) with me when I'm home this coming week and I am hoping to snag something from ONU when I'm home.

Sweet.  Split back veer football.  That's right up my alley.  If you need anything on that, let me know.  That's what we ran in HS and when I was still coaching.  Great running offense for a team with undersized, but quick O-linemen.   I have a huge playbook based on that stuff, though most of it is from the unbalanced line.  Which makes it even more off these days because hardly anyone runs that.

What's fun is getting a group of O-linemen smart enough to run the unbalanced from sides.  That way you can flip back and forth from unbalanced left or right and balanced from play to play.  That causes serious headaches for the defense and leads to some huge plays simply due to the D lining up wrong.

JK might be able to add an opponent's view on the veer offense we used to run ;D
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Double sweet!  This must be my lucky day.  First veer blocking schemes and now the drag racing a Hemi?  I think I died and went to heaven..........

Been a while since I dug out my late November football clothes. Come say hi to old 99 on the south wall with former Dean Taylor and the townies
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Sounds more fun than hanging with Dean Davis.  By my senior year, I had a weekly meeting with Dodie for breaking dorm hours -- whether she caught me or not!

There's always a pretty good law school in Ada.

Wow. 41-0 with 7:59 to go in the 2nd quarter! 41? WTF!! There is no excuse for a failed PAT! Mount had better focus because that point could come back to haunt them. ;D Okay I got nothing. Did not see this type of an a$$whooping coming. Can I re-do my pick-ems?

I really thought that WJ would show and be prepared. Really thought that the Sirianni/Caponi/Stickley connection would provide them some insight - shows what I know. On another note saw that Todd Young is a coach with WJ. He lived next door to me at Hiram. Nice guy - wish him well.

W&J would be a middle of the pack OAC team, ahead of JCU.   ONU would have beaten this team by 25-30.

Very true Purple. I just don't 'hear' (radio broadcast) anything to be impressed with at this point. What is the actual score? My livestats are frozen with Mount on the 7 or something.
