Ohio State had only two players on the All Big Ten first team...and the Mounties are upset?

Word on the street is that Akron University will not bring back Head football coach...shame, he is a really nice fella..
so, when does the LK to Akron rumor/discussion begin....

The Akron U facilities are now top dog and, arguably, the best in the MAC... the head coach's reported salary at Akron is $250,000...Would LK leave Mount Union for 300K?  I think that this job is more worthy of a thought  than any of those past ...considering location to his roots, keeping same recruiting contacts, facilities, money... I think this would be a tough one to pass on....BUT that is just me

No chance. That's where careers go to die.

Maybe, but I'd be more likely to put my money on South Carolina.

Coach Kehres would have left long ago, but at age 60 it is unlikely he would make a move at this time.

Except perhaps a chump named John Heisman (Buchtel College, Akron's predecessor). Lee Owens, Paul Bixler, Jim Tressel survived. It did pretty much spell the end for Jerry Faust.

I think it was over when he left the prime tri state area recruiting area surrounding Moeller...haha

LK has it better at MUC than he would at Notre Dame.. And Jerry Faust is the worse hire in their history.

Let's hope the Akron Athletic Director looks down his nose at D3 football. All sentiment aside, I think Akron's stadium is arguably the nicest total facility in Ohio. In many aspects compares nicely with Virginia Tech's

Now all they have to do is fill it on weekends in the fall, which, realistically, will be a tough task to do.  It would be great to see, however, I have my doubts.  As good as some of the MAC teams are (such as CMU of recent and the Toledo teams in recent years - even when Western Michigan and Bowling Green back in Meyer's time there, which BTW, seems like a very long time ago-), let's face it, the MAC teams will never be on the tier of the upper tier DI teams on a consistent basis, even though they beat a Big Ten team on occasion and/or "hang tough" with some of the other DI non-conference foes they face.  Just MO.

Until Akron and Kent state can actually fill their Stadiums for something other than a high school playoff game, they'll hang on to their DI status by reporting their attendance numbers the old fashioned way: Make them up

There is an ancient quote by Eurifides , "Among mortals, second thoughts are wisest." and after reading further I do agree Simmons was the appropriate first team OAC quarterback.  However, if Rocco takes them all the way, like I think he will do, he should merit serious consideration for All-American honors and perhaps player of the year.

I hadn't heard that other MAC also cheated on attendance.  EMU got burned a couple of years ago reporting figures that were 2-4 times the actual (and even the actual included hundreds of free tickets, NOT including students who are always free).  Anyone who attends a game there (I do sporadically, but often turn down even free tickets) knows their REAL attendance very rarely exceeds 4,000, and is sometimes half that.  EMU football is a horrible product (their last win was sometime in 2008) in a so-so environment.  If the NCAA ever enforces their D1A attendance rule, I wonder how many MAC schools would remain?

Though, in defense of the MAC, I think most years their top 2-3 teams are definitely top 50, and sometimes top 25.  Alas, their bottom 5 teams are nearly always bottom 15.

I'd say Ashland (for Lee Owens) is a demotion.

I played against an Owens team in HS. They were up 73-0 in the 4th and put the starters back in - tossing downfield going for 80 against our 3rd team defense. Ashland for Owens is not a demotion. It's karma - or a godsmack. I still remember him trying to get me to assign extra credit for a couple of his Akron players so they would be eligible - no Streaks this is not a 'misremembering', embelishment, or fabricated incident. I just brought up 73-0 and said he's got the wrong guy for a favor.

As far as Notre Dame/Akron and LK. Doubtful. I think LK would be a great fit at a service academy (Attention Army Black Knights!!!!! We could be relevant again!). If he is going to make the jump to another level he needs a system where he has players for all four years, where they are committed to more than personal goals (i.e. team matters more), and where discipline reigns supreme. That aint Akron - and the first sub .500 season at Notre Dame (probably year one) will cause them to pull the trigger to quickly (a la Ty Willingham, Bob Davie). However, LK could take Army - and they would win - they would win often - and I think they would be ranked and bowl bound within 3 years. Not too mention we would BEAT NAVY!!! Damn that would be sweet.

I remember when Faust was hired by Akron after Notre Dame. He was getting paid more at Akron than Bo at UM (the real UM, not the current pretender version) and JoePa at JoePa U. A prefessor I used to work for was there when Faust was and said that every year he overspent on his budget (normally within 6 months after getting it) and the University would 'dip' into departmental budgets to supplement the athletic department. The faculty hated Faust.

^^^Frankly, there wasn't a lot to like about Faust.  I was coaching in the Cincy area when he was the "King of Moeller".  Every year we lost about 5-6 players to Mo.  Of course, they were our best players.  Had come through our junior high program, and we had them penciled in for spots on the Varsity.  Then, right prior to 9th grade, they amazingly transfer.  Hell, he had rental property in Covington (KY) where about 2/3 of the "tenants" had children who attended Moeller.  I bet about half of the residency rules in the OHSAA Bylaws go back to Faust.

OK, I feel better......
