According to Ric and hscoach on their game broadcast today, some of Montclair State adult fans showed the worst behavior they've seen at Mount Union Stadium.  To put that in perspective, Ric's attended most Mount Union games since the early 1970's.
Too bad those adult fans have to throw such a bad light on Montclair State University.

Not sure why that's even important to the broadcast. Does it affect the game somehow?

I agree. From my perspective the broadcasters are in a position to ignore and move on, or pour gasoline onto a fire. Should have left everything alone and talked more about the game. I am a Ric and HSCoach fan and listener, but its just my opinion.

Cam West's INT was unreal. Way to represent Southern Ohio!!!

Sorry for the triple post, but Pierre is once again listed as probable, but is expected to start. After his 100 yd. performance last week, I wonder if Peyton is starting to trust him more.

I really think the MSU fans need to get a towel and go sit in a corner to cry. There was holding on both sides of the ball, all afternoon. Some MSU fans were encouraging the thug like play and actually applauded the team when someone would get in a cheap shot and get away with it. You would expect that from a student, but then maybe some of the brains have not fully developed yet. I don't know who the guy in the press box was that kept calling complaints from his perch down to the MUC fans, but he finally realized it would be best to just keep quiet. From my position, you had just as many, if not more, THUGS as you call them on the field, but I think that goes with your personna. Most of you complained from the time you arrived here, maybe you can complain to each other going home. I hope you have a safe trip.

Keep in mind that 99.9% of the MSU fans are parents of players. I'm the other .1% You guys are in a class of your own. Be proud of it. ;)

And that 99.9% were sitting some of our fans that I'm less than proud of. It takes a certain mentality (so to speak) to want to buy season tickets next to the visiting fans. BTW Nobody is gracious watching their kids lose.

We are proud of the fact we have the gold standard for D3.  That LK et al have earned.  I resent the fact that you [1102] get on here after your team was soundly beaten and call one of our players a thug.  The refs were from the heartland conf.  not a hot bed of football prowess.  The calls went both ways.  Go back to jersey and re group.  Come back next year and try again.  But don't get on here and infer that we achieved what we have by the use of thugs as players.  You have a nice holiday season. :-*

Any word on Scott Panchik? He was just getting back to 100% but the injury looked quite serious. Would hate to see his season and his career end this way.

bushman:

Just curious, however, since you guys are talking about this subject regarding today's game, what were the refs doing about the foul comments?  Did they make any comments to the players i.e. give warnings or did they just choose to ignore those?  In the past couple of years, I've seen some officials who shirk their responsibilites for controlling such behavior, which is unfortunate.  IMO, that type of behavior by players on any team should be warned and reported by the officials to the respective coaching staffs.  I think that most staffs and administrators would (actually do) agree with that.

Classy move by the Montclair coach who opened the press box window as Fischer lay on the field to yell "<bleeping> cheapshot you scumbag." He went on to drop a few more f-bombs and "converse" with the Mount fans on that side. Way to keep your cool...

he's from Jersey...what can you expect? ;)

as i watch the replay of the game on STO, it is evident that the "thug" of the game was not Joe Millings of Mount Union but rather #53 from Montclair.

I know that losing your #1 QB is a tough pill to swallow, but roughing the passer penalties happen in games and so do injuries...sorry.  But #53 deciding that he needed to run his pudgy self into Millings a couple of seconds after the whistle, that is classless.

As for the Jersey comments, when Mount played The College of New Jersey a couple of years back in the playoffs it was the same with the cheap plays and the fans getting into it.  Fact of the matter is that the fans from NJ have not represented their state very well against the common stereotypes that we all know.  I'm sure that 99.9% of the MSU fans are terrific people, but getting upset over what is said on the radio (that reaches a 25 mile radius) is a bt much.

1990 Champs

Just checking in on the North Region Board to see what's in store for Albright next weekend, and it sounds like today was more eventful for things that happened off the field at MUC.  I can tell you that the fan behavior was not much better in Doylestown today on both sides.

No fan or parent has a KID on the team, those are young MEN on the field.  It seems that some D3 football prents/fans have taken several pages from the little league parent handbook.  When things don't go well the order of excuses usually goes like this - 1. Referees are screwing us 2. Our coach sucks 3.  the other teams coach is a jerk/cheater, etc. 4. the other team's players are thugs 5. other team's fans are a**holes. In the hundreds of games I've played or watched, I've never seen any one of these things affect the outcome of a game.

I am looking forward to heading to Alliance Saturday for the first time in 19 years in the hopes that one "AC" can duplicate what another "AC" accomplished a couple of decades ago.  Either way, I anticipate seeing the best that Division III football has to offer.  I'll choose to ignore the rest!

Through the years, the pre-playoff game talk on here, by fans of opponents, has occassionally been how Mount has never seen anything like what some team is bringing to Alliance.  Yesterday, I watched from the south end zone and heard loud rumblings from the east stands that I couldn't make out; but, I did get the idea there were unhappy folks in red.

Why not?  They drove many hours to see a game in which they expected Mount would  not have seen anything like the Red Hawks.  If I had driven 7 hours to NJ, expecting to see Mount show Montclair something they hadn't seen before only to see the Raiders get beaten 62-14, I don't know how I may have verbalized any frustrations.  I'd like to think I would have behaved with class.  Would I have?  Maybe.  Maybe not.

I did not see the Millings hit on the QB, however the Qb was on a gimpy leg prior to that and was not as mobile as he was earlier.  He had played very well up to that time. Obviously the QB injury took away any chance of MSU staying in the game as the kid was playing superbly under pressure. #53's late hit in retaliation was an ejection offense, and the adult fan behavior was not acceptable.  Our Mount "adult" cheering squad in front of the  pressbox tends to infuriate opponents and I wish they would move them out of the area where visiting parents sit.  They think they are cute and original, and sometimes are good for a laugh, but cause more bad feelings than good.
There are always a couple loud fans griping about the officials from the first play, that is what we do ..unfortunately.  The radio guys are honest and accurate in their game call, but in the new day of world wide audiences, it may be good to close the open microphones during commercials and such...when satellite television got popular, the network guys learned real fast how they could get burned by open mics during "off the air" moments. It is amazing to me that someone in New Jersey can listen to an Alliance broadcast and text message back to a friend at the game what is going on during a broadcast, that is not actually "on the air"..but is "in the air" if you catch my drift...

Personally, I talked to numerous fans from MSU before and after the game and they were good folks and excited to be following their team, and I agree with an earlier post that it is hard to smile when your kid is getting his butt kicked, even if he is over 21.    The "thug" comment is totally uncalled for.
Unconfirmed student talk is that Panchic may have  torn ACL..but very unreliable source...
