Congratulations to the Mount Union Purple Raiders on their dominating victory on Saturday. We had a little different experience at the Perk. I will be posting my interpretation of what I saw  within the next couple of days, but here is a game account of the UWW-Wittenberg game for those of you interested.

But one of their former associates has seen Wesley,,and he thinks that Wesley deserves to be in the semi's,,could be,,and should be a good game . :-X

Dammit HSC!  You just HAD to ruin our "big announcement"!   ;D

I think the four semi-finalists are clearly the best four teams by a pretty fair amount.  There have been years when that wasn't really true.  I am concerned that since we haven't been tested in recent weeks, we may not be ready for a big, physical, fast team.  I think this game will be a barn-burner, and the only thing I am unsure of is how Wesley will respond when coming to Alliance to face "The Machine".

How did the blimp end up over the stadium anyway?  Was that a Terry's Tire Town special?

Jr. wants to come Friday night so he can see all my "little internet friends".  I told him he's not allowed because he might score all of Saintsfans potential chicks.  Here's hoping the talent is as good as the wings!   ;)

Pat?  Keith?  Are any of you guys coming to town Friday night?

Keith will be in Alliance. I don't yet know his itinerary.

I thought HScoach's comments on Saturday regarding the Raiders play were correct, however I differ somewhat that Mount would have lost to a Cap, ONU or Ott. The reason I sight is that Mount would have been more mentally focused for a rival vs. a one dimentional team that they were playing for the first time. I did not expect Albright would score more than 7-10 pts since the Raider defense was on their game and it is much easier when the opposing team can only throw the ball.

Regard the Wesley/Mount game:

I see a closer, hard hitting game with more penalties and less TO's. With two strong defenses, scoring will be less, but IMHO I do not think Wesley has the firepower to stay with Mount for 4 quarters, so it could be a 28-14 or 31-17 game, but we will see a good game. History says most teams that come to Alliance (UMHB '04) being the exception, go away from their tendencies and/or make critical mistakes.

Here are some numbers that scare me!
Mount Union

2009 Playoffs - 57 pts per game offense
6 pts  per game allowed defense
                         554 yds per game offense

2003 Playoffs - 54 pts per game offense
8 pts per game allowed defense
                        523 yds per game offense

In 2003 Mount played 4 post season games, due to a first round bye for a top seed. In the semi-final game, Mount won 66-0 over Bridewater, then lost in the Stagg to St. Johns. No one remembers this more than Coach Kehres.

Rowan did pretty well in the semi's one year, too.  That was the last home playoff game I saw.

The numbers you post above should definitely be in the back of the minds of the MUC faithful.  For me, though, I'm thinking even more recently two years ago when we lost to UWW in the Stagg.  Pretty easy regular season run through the OAC, relatively easy playoffs (though I'll admit I haven't gone back to remind myself), and then couldn't come up with an answer to Justin Beavers when our backs were against the wall in the Stagg in that awful weather.

We lived in Michigan for that Rowan game, but I was in Alliance for the UMHB game and everyone thought Mount was going to win until it ended
in the South end zone.

This season the Raiders are strong enough to win it all again, but in September I had my doubts and the next game(s) are not going to be easy. It is this point in the year when the master (Coach Kehres) does
his uncomparable magic!

Isn' it about time we all heard about "Los Purple Raiders" from someone on the west coast?

Maybe we haven't heard anything because the new "PRIDE OF ORRVILLE" is Kyle Simmons and not Smucker's.
Never heard of  Kyle Simmons---who dat be? Sounds like a new humans disease that just surfaced. Yup  L.K. and his "Los Purple Raiders" of the great city of Alliance Ohio USA be on the Road To Salem---Again. How do he do dat---where do he gets his players? Larry Kehres CONTINUES to be just like Smuckers Peanut Butter and Smuckers Jelly made in ORRVILLE Ohio-----------Simply The Best. I be watching "Los Purples" in Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl December 19,2009. Be it 11:am or noon? Perhaps Kyle Simmons be a Mount Union football fan!

I wouldn't expect you to actually know the offensive back of the year in the OAC.  No biggie.

Raider68,

I was at the game saturday and lets get one thing straight. This isnt the same dominating no mistake football team of the old. Several passes I couldnt believe the QB threw, and several fumbles that if a good team could have capitlized on. That game on saturday would have been much closer than the score indicated. I saw the big differences as the following:

Mount capitolized on all Albright turnovers.
Mount turned it over 5 times and only 3 points were scored by Albright.
Mount team speed and athleticism across all positions makes them a complete team.

They dont have huge size on either sides of the ball but their team speed is incredible. That lead to touchdown passes to WR #9 and Shorts.

PS the fans, I thought the fans were quite annoying. Argueing calls that were clearly fouls or no calls. Parents chanting start the bus, and etc. Clearly these are fans who are used to seeing big blow outs and calls going their way. Bottom line is if Mount plays like that against a team who can match them speed for speed. THey will not be able to blow out the team.

wesleydad

cartel, i hope you are right.  wesley has been called pretty quick this year, especially on the d side of the ball.  if the o line can handle the rush this could be a real good football game.  if mount has some mistakes like this week then i am sure it will be a good game.  wesley is pretty big on both lines, maybe they will be able to take advantage of that.

HScoach,

Thanks for the clarification. THe outfits and their passion anyone would have to love. I guess in a small, such as Alliance, having a powerful football team its your life.

WesleyDad,

If Wesley has any type of real speed as you have stated they will give mount a game. It seemed as if Mount's run game isn't as nearly as good as its passing game. I havent followed them all year and I am not aware of their year long stat's either. However, their run game was not the focal point of the offense it was passing. MUC didnt seem that strong of a running team. When the score was 48-3 MUC kept passing and put on another TD before the final seconds ticked 0. THe first teamers played all three quarters, and all but two possesions in the fourth. They will try to put up as many points as possible. What Wesley will see on films is crazy speed at their reciever and DB positions. Shorts is an all american and potential draft pick, but #9 made the big plays. QB made some bad throws and will take chances. Albright Defense line was not huge but was able to get pressure on MUC's QB all game and even manage a few sacks.

MUC's Special teams Place kicker had trouble kicking ball down to the 10 yard line. THere was a wind on Saturday but this happened at both 30 yard lines. Place kicker did miss extra point and has field goal kicking range from 30 yard line and in. Punter only was out a couple times and had some good punts.

MUC's defensive ends are sick. Number 9 and 11 are both quick and strong. THey will give your tackles fits all game. Albright was able to move the ball but the MUC defense would eventually force a turnover or a stop. MUC will setup in a defensive front and after the Oline came to the ball the front 3 or 4 would adjust. They contantly stunt and blitz from the tackle positions. Albright hurt MUC by running a draws up the middle with a RB. WHen they ran the two minute offense it worked extremely well as they moved the ball with ease on Mount. I highly reccomend quick offensive strikes, two step drops, shovel pass up the middle, RB up the gut, and no huddle offense at times to throw a wrench into the play selection for MUC.

MUC's DB's were always in the right place at the right time. Quick, positioned and coached very well. THese guys will be tough to beat come saturday. THeir were lots of shots taken on the corners, and they came through in the clutch every time. Swatting the ball away at the last second, crunching hits, Interceptions, and never being beat deep.

HSCoach,
Thanks for setting the record straight about the Chirping Ugly Ducklings! This is a problem that the ticket office could handle, however I don't see it happening anytime soon. Some of the older Ducklings around him are beginning to catch the virus as well and would probably stick for him. If some opposing players dad decided to come over and belt him once or twice, I don't think he would have much opposition, there are too many of us to hold the opposition back. As much as I hate it, I'll not move from my long time seat. This is probably one ALUM that the institution is not tooooo proud of. Riddlin & booze don't mix too well, or in their case, too much water from the fountain of youth. :(

Hope the boys can stave off one more attack from the enemy this weekend, I think it will be a big chore. We have seen a better team each week and this is no exception. The key just might be ball control and time management. I'm sure we'll be ready to play.

GO RAIDERS !!! :)

I wish we could kick out some of the idiots that are "fans" of the Raiders.  A few of them are small town, small minded, small skilled individuals who think of themselves as "tough guys" vicariously through the MUC football teams.  They start the stupid chants--they cause the majority of the problems with the fans of the opposition.

As with any school we get a few drunk idiot students (even with noon starts) but the majority of the idiots in the stands are connected to one former Alliance High School physics teacher who calls himself "the #1 Raiders fan".  Most of us MUC fans who post on these boards would just as soon see him and his "merry band" of idiots banned from the stadium permanently.

Most of us are proud and maybe (?) even a little bit cocky about MUC's chances and success--but we are courteous and generally nice people who respect each of our opponents (except maybe Wilmington, and years ago, Hiram) and hope from week to week that there will be a clean, good game.

We want a good, clean game this week--we hope (and are pretty confident) that the Raiders will win--but, if they do lose, we will acknowledge that we were beaten fairly and squarely and not resort to name calling and blaming the refs.

Safe travels to all coming to Alliance this weekend.  We invite MUC fans and Wesley fans to The Wing Warehouse Friday evening starting around 7:00 for some wings, beverages, and chest thumping (and checking out whatever local "talent" is in attendance).  I know that Wesleydad has been with us before--I, and the rest of the real fans, look forward to meeting many more Wesley fans this weekend.

Peace!
