IMO Cecil Shorts has not shown any measure of the  physical prowess that Garcon displayed on the field.  He blocks, but they are mostly "screen" type blocks, where Garcon hit and drove people.
His hands are very good, and speed worthy, however, from my vantage point, he is not nearly as physically imposing as Garcon and would not hold up to the violence of the NFL.  I do not see the NFL in his future at all.

I have been told that he was injured as a frosh and played very sparingly in the first game or two....(source is fairly reliable), so does have another year of eligibility.

If he does have NFL aspirations, He may be better off to stick around, bulk up some more and put some more maturity/muscle on his frame, which to me seems slender.

I agree.  Garcon was a physical specimen playing against D3 DB's.  Shorts is a truely great receiver but doesn't dominate the DB's physically.

The Ginn reference is spot on.  Very speedy, but not physical.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

One statement on the fan behavior thing before the discussion is dead.

It's been quite a few years since I've used our family's season tickets a couple rows behind the Merry Band of Idiots, but they will be forever off my Christmas card list for taunting the opposing players and making fun of an injured player.  Foremost Tom Arth in the 4th quarter of the semi-final playoff game when Arth had played hurt (separated shoulder if I remember right?)  before getting knocked out of the game near the end.  Hammer and Co spent the next 5 minutes as he was being attended to on the bench calling him various things that I can't type here including a certain female reproductive part.  To Arth's credit, he just waved and ignored them, but such a great competitor and his family sitting in the next section over deserved a much reception than they got.

I have no problem with cheering for your team and booing the bad guys, but when you start singling out specific injuried players, you've crossed way over the line of decent fan behavior.  I expect that out of 20 year old college kids, not supposedly grown men.

Small but Slow

Ironic that the hot topic on the board is fan behavior.  Just got home from a middle school girls basketball game.  Parents of our opponent were unbelievable, taunting and trying to get in the girls' heads.  I was proud that it seemed to spark our kids instead of intimidating them.  The saying that adversity reveals character rang true.  I've felt the "us against the world" mentality LK has maintained in the MUC program has served it well.  With the bullseye square on the team it has usually maintained its poise and performed.  The '07 Stagg as an exception, the team usually finds a way to overcome everyone's best shot, keeps its composure and wins.  Don't think heckling or taunting will intimidate the Purple Raiders.  In fact, I believe a hostile environment would be good for the team.

Forgive me if im wrong. So all of this fanbashing has something to do with an Injury that happend what 10 years ago?C'mon let it go. I was at the Montclair game just 2 weeks ago and that same group applauded the young man who had a very serious injury.Hmmm maybe times do change?

skunks_sidekick

Tsk...tsk...tsk.....enough already!  Arrrrggggg.... :o  I mean really????

On to other matters.......

Cecil Shorts has another year of elgibility if so chooses to use it.  That is not conjecture.....not hyperbole.....it's fact.  Trust me......the source is impeccable.   ;)

Cecil Shorts is MUCH faster than Pierre.  Documented...fact.  He has also gained about 15 pounds from last year to this year.  Having said that...he is still not CLOSE to the blocker that Pierre has always been.  IF he decides to try the NFL this coming year, and has a GREAT COMBINE...he will stand a good chance to get drafted.  Here's hoping he does the right thing and stays another year at Mount.  (OK...maybe that was self-serving as a fan.)

I think Wesley will be the first team in three years (in the play-offs) that can actually challenge Mount other than WW.  I am really looking forward to this game.  By the way....Skunk and I are registered at the MUC bookstore.......Poncho's gift shop.......and at Trap's.  Purple is always a safe bet color-wise.   ;D

Did you read his post? 10 years ago was when he lost respect and stopped caring about these losers.

I'm sorry, but if the Drunken Purple Suits (who I lovvvvve by the way, after all they are IN College), know your name, not because you are a former player or famous alum, but because you are a drunken townie loser, you need to get a life.

Cecil will get serious looks, with or without extra bulk. His 40 Time and Pierre's success will make him a 4th-6th rounder in this or next year's draft. If he does come back I think he will get a few more reps as QB/Wildcat as Seaman continues his progressions.

Isn' it about time we all heard about "Los Purple Raiders" from someone on the west coast?

Maybe we haven't heard anything because the new "PRIDE OF ORRVILLE" is Kyle Simmons and not Smucker's.
Never heard of  Kyle Simmons---who dat be? Sounds like a new humans disease that just surfaced. Yup  L.K. and his "Los Purple Raiders" of the great city of Alliance Ohio USA be on the Road To Salem---Again. How do he do dat---where do he gets his players? Larry Kehres CONTINUES to be just like Smuckers Peanut Butter and Smuckers Jelly made in ORRVILLE Ohio-----------Simply The Best. I be watching "Los Purples" in Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl December 19,2009. Be it 11:am or noon? Perhaps Kyle Simmons be a Mount Union football fan!

I wouldn't expect you to actually know the offensive back of the year in the OAC.  No biggie.
OK Reality Check------Did not know Kyle Simmons was offensive back of the year in OAC for 2009 .So "only" for 2009 can Kyle  be referred to  being like Smuckers Jelly/Peanut Butter " as "simply the best" RB in OAC.

Colts list Garcon at 6'0" 210 lbs.  He looks every bit of that these days.

I think more problematic is that the Purple Suit guys just HAVE to go down in front of the opposing team's cheering section.  Now I also file that under "part of the college experience", but it has created a few interesting exchanges over the past few years.   ;D

Although a year or two removed, I feel that I am capable to respond.  The fact is that the amount of "sodas" being consumed causes the Suits to travel over that way a few times per game.  I feel that this is more of an issue of sitting the opposing students right by the enterance to the little boys room than anything.  I know I had to deal with taunts by the W&J faithful and I'm just an old alum now.

I hope that means I'm a famous alum....minus the large donation expectations

I'll try to catch up here:

Cecil is faster than P, but way less physical...both will be in the league next year, unless Cecil comes back than 2011

Mr Lemon, hold on to the damn ball.  thank you

and visit the 'Hood while in Alliance, the burgers are great

Ok, now would anyone like to discuss the Wesley game...its the National Semi's....kind of a big deal
