wesleydad:  If the Wesley D-line is everything they're made out to be, then the game will be a great one.  If they can get consistent pressure on Rocco with just the front 4, then they'll be in business.  If they don't dominate the line of scrimmage then Rocco and his great WR corps will have a field day.  The Mount running game has good stats but is honestly pretty average.  Especially when compared to what it's been the last four years.  If Mount is running the ball with success the game is over because that means the O-line is handling the Wesley D-line with ease.  That's an early sign to watch for.

Offensively for Wesley I think the key is first down.  They need to get positive yardage on 1st down either by the short passing game or via running to avoid 3rd and longs.  The Mount defensive line is a real handful in obvious passing situations.   Keep them off balance and they're mortal.  That's what Capital did.  A lot of 3rd and short yardage situations that were easily converted by an accurate QB with sure handed receivers.

I'm really looking forward to this game simply to see the Wesley defense against the Mount offense.  I really expect a great battle, especially along the line of scrimmage.

although totally irrelevant to this weekend, i feel i must answer the whitewater decline the penalty call be drass.  footballfan413 seems to leave some things out of the description.  it was about 15 degrees and eventhough UWWW had the wind at their back the odds were strongly against a 49 yard field goal in those conditions.  hindsight is 20/20.  the kick hit the cross bar and went through, just as easily could have missed and maybe changed field position at the time, it is not a bad decision given all the perameters in play.  that game hinged on the coin flip with UWWW winning it and deferring, wesley takes the ball and gets pinned inside the 10 on the kickoff and it snowballed from there, UWWW was the better team that day, but the field goal decision did not play a part in the outcome.
I never said it did.  With the final score being 44-7, that would be just plain silly.  The point was that, for all the reasons you described, the Hawks chose not to kick the FG...........that is until Drass made his choice.   ;)  Just thought it was a an entertaining story and I brought up this week because the Wolverines are taking on the Mount.  Clearly, no one else did so I apologize. Good luck to the Raiders and the Wolverines and I hope my team gets to meet one of them next week but we have to take care of business on Saturday and the Cats will be a dangerous opponent.

HScoach, thanks for the additional what to look for during the early part of the game.  I agree, the line play will be key, can Wesley step up to the challenge?  I hope they are aggressive on O on first down and look to mix it up, run and pass, positive yardage will make people stay home and allow space to open up for the receivers.

Hope you guys have a good time at the warehouse friday night, wish i could make it, but i will see as many of you as i can on saturday.  since i am not sure who is who, please find me, will be easy to do, i will certainly be the only person wearing a #13 wesley jersey at the game.  Also, who tailgates, we will be eating breakfast with the skunks and then heading to the field and would like to meet some people before the game or after the game.

Whoooo, its gettin COLD! It was only 22 degrees today. Hopefully it warms up a tiny bit for the game. Hopefully the game is a good one, and I really dont know what to say about it except: lets see what happens.  :D

wesleydad, Ill look for you at the game!

Here's my maybe: If Mount doesn't score on their first procession after the half, they could be in trouble.

My only question: Does their first procession need to take place on the first possession after the half.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

Small but Slow

The reason Mount Union often wins playoff games in lopsided fashion is because the team is coached and prepared for tight games. The coaching staff does a unique job of making the team believe that their opponent is not just capable of winning, but likely to do so.  LK and the staff are able to keep the team focused in their preparation during the week and ready to come out fast come kickoff.  Wesley shouldn't expect the Raiders looking past them toward a rematch with UWW.  Hate to sound like a broken record, but beating MUC in Alliance in the national semis takes a great team playing a complete game along with catching a few breaks.  It has happened and this year's team will no doubt be reminded of that.

And I told all the kids in my classes to turn auto spell check off. Actually if they just walk down the field after the half I'll feel pretty good about things

Wow, where's Carroll Streaks? Mount Union men's b-ball just knocked off #2 ranked JCU (and the Mount women are leading)

ADDED: Mount women beat JCU to go 7-0/3-0.

quit being arrogant....

Arrogant is a synonym for PROUD, and I am  :)

Did I mention Mount is receiving votes in the D3 wrestling voting too?

So, does listing facts make one proud/arrogant?

UW-Whitewater men's basketball: Ranked #5 in the Nation
UW-Whitewater woman's basketball:  Ranked #6 in the Nation
UW-Whitewater wrestling: Ranked #19 in the Nation
UW-Whitewater women's volleyball: Ranked #12 in the nation

The reason Mount Union often wins playoff games in lopsided fashion is because the team is coached and prepared for tight games.

Well, that and they have more talent than 233 other D3 Teams.   :D
