I have been replaying Petru's long td from last week. Jog out and bump the safety and then take off like hell.

Do you think anybody on the Mount offense is unclear about hanging on to the ball? Please, please, please Wesley, blitz. You'll win a couple and lose a lot. Mark my words, Zac Lemmon, career day

Wesley had the ball for over 40 minutes against Johns Hopkins and they sustained their drives just fine on a day that they ran the ball 57 times

Mount will seldom lead in time of possession. Return, boom, kick off.

Last week of the playoffs Methodists 2, Baptists 1, Heathens 1 ;D

1999 Playoffs Mount Union 42, Augustana 33 Mount Union Time Of Possession LESS than 12 minutes

I was just replying to an earlier Raider 68 post. I know that time of poccession doesn't always tell the whole story.

Don't know Mr. Feltersnatch but thinks he's a cousin of Michael Hunt.  I've heard of Mrs. Wate.  She runs the credit department of a local bbq joint.

Seems Wesley is this year's "Mount Union's never seen a defense like ours."  Its tough to gauge the true ability of any unit this time of year.  I have no doubt Wesley is a quality team playing outstanding football, and there are questions about how good this year's addition of the Purple Raiders really is.  We'll have an answer by 3:00 P.M. tomorrow.  I still believe Mount will find a weakness to exploit in the vaunted Wesley "D" and pull out a victory.   To me the key matchup will be the Wesley offense against the MUC defense.  If Wesley can at least move the ball enough to make Mount drive the length of the field to score it could be a tight game.  If Mount gets to play the short field early it could be all over.  That's been a key formula for Mount's success in the semi-final game often over the past 15 seasons.

After 1800 miles going back and forth this week, mostly on the PA TPK through every possible season -- nearly winter, winter, still winter, and construction -- I am back home to listen to [suckup alert!] Ric and Mark's excellent broadcast.

Thanks again for your best wishes.  Mr. Mom's mom was able to celebrate Xmas with her entire family, and then went quickly and painlessly.

If MUC wins, I'll try to get my back repaired enough to get to Salem.

Save traveling, everyone.

Check the broadcast link on the scoreboard page. You don't have to listen to Mark and Ric unless you want  to. There is a CBS Sports/D3Sports video feed. Get ya to  Salem

My trusty bell with be in hand. If/when it gets out of hand I'm going to find an open window near Keith s D3 broadcast and let loose.

Picking Wesley and then coming to Alliance, THAT's JUST NOT RIGHT. Pulling for a non purple team, what next? Supporting those heathen at University Wisconsin by Walmart????..

ok, send Wesley and Linfield and the poor Bridgewater Stone Station won;t be able to seat on the non-Mount Union side and cheer against us.

I'm picking Wesley WITH SPREAD!

If MUC and UWW don't show up, Salem will have to sign up for federal recover funds!

let's hope so....we know how those games generally turn out.

I also would like to thank the D3 guys for kind of, sort of picking against Mount in the game.  The guys will be using the extra motivation....how much it helps? i dont know, but they will be focused at the opening kick this week

my meaningless prediction, 42-17 MUC

bundle up and enjoy the game everyone

I for one can honestly say as long as I see a great game each year the outcome is irrelevant to me. I come to see all my D3 friends, enjoy a brew, and a Nat'l Championship game every year. What could be better? Good luck to all tomorrow and see ya in Salem.  ;)

Before everyone gets their purple panties in a wad, the Triple Take states scores and basically contradicts itself (in Ryan's and Keith's case at least) because they've picked Wesley to win and both stated by percentages that Wesley's odds of winning were less than 50%.  Keith and Ryan both stated clearly that they're in waffle-land with regards to this pick. They had to choose someone and they did.  Just the fact that they picked Wesley in close games yet stated Wesley had 35 to 45% chances of winning shows you that they might as well say, "I'm picking Wesley by 3 points (with a margin of error +/- 10 points)."

I wouldn't be surprised if MUC blows 'em out, wins by 1 or loses by 14.  All are conceivable this week.

Well the percentage, at least in my mind, is there to indicate the difference between a "pick" and a "favorite." Mount Union is still a favorite to me, so I think a Wesley win would be an upset. But that's my pick, I stand by it.

When you've been doing this for 11 seasons like I have, you leave behind a long list of wrong. It wouldn't faze me to be wrong once again, but what I can say is short of the two coaching staffs, I don't know of anyone who's watched 3 games by each team. So don't think I just pulled that pick out of my [posterior].

Has D3.com provided bulletin board material for Mount?

http://www.d3football.com/dailydose/2009/12/08/triple-take-national-semifinal-picks/

Probably for you guys much more than the players.

I highly doubt they need bulletin board material. I understand Larry gets after them pretty good behind closed doors, but he also stresses respecting each opponent. You can tell by Terrance Morring's comments in our front page story.

In other words, Mount Union's guys are well aware of what Wesley is capable of, and they're well aware of what they need to do to be successful this week. It's quite possible they put it together, but if so, I doubt it has much to do with bulletin board material.

Quote from: PurpleSuit on December 12, 2009, 12:59:54 AMI also would like to thank the D3 guys for kind of, sort of picking against Mount in the game.  The guys will be using the extra motivation....how much it helps? i dont know, but they will be focused at the opening kick this week

You mean they're normally not focused? Cause they seem pretty focused to me.

My guess is very little, as far as how much it helps. As Adalius Thomas said earlier in the week, motivation is for kindergarteners.

These guys were way up for this national semifinal long before Triple Take went up. Sometimes 'us against the world/nobody believes in us' works, but that's not the Mount Union formula and never has been. You of all people should know.

The Purple Raiders self-motivate, they stay motivated, and it's really one of the remarkable things about Larry's legacy. I don't know if you've ever heard him talk about recruiting players with passion, but long story short, he doesn't even recruit the type of guys that need bulletin board material to get up for a game.

If nothing, MUC players are motivated by the legacy, of never wanting to be the team that didn't win it all.

They might not lose much, but they've lost enough to know that they need not take championships for granted.
