IMHO, they are hanging their hat on last weeks game.

Quote from: Raider 68 on December 11, 2009, 07:35:34 PMYou sound like the D3 guys who base their prediction heavily on one game as well.

I don't know how much more clearly I could state this:

QuoteThe rationale is all over the board, since I've seen Wesley live three times and Mount Union on DVR three times.

Hey, Keith, you have to remember -- fans assume. They don't know what kind of work we put into this stuff.

raider68, yes i am basing my opinion on the one game i saw mount play

You're a basing on a game you saw them play! What better could you be basing it on?

Not to mention every last person on this board would upjump to say Capital is better than the first three teams Mount Union has played in the playoffs.

So not only has a fan of another team come to see Mount Union live, but he saw you play your toughest competition of the season. Now WesleyDad is quite obviously biased, but he's got more cred, having actually watched your team, than any of you who have never seen Wesley.

Has MUC gotten better since midseason? Dear Lord, I'd hope so.

Nice points, guys.

Funny you should mention. Since I'm hopped up on the Starbucks Doubleshot that kept me awake while I was wasting my Friday night on the Pa. Turnpike, I was just over on the Daily Dose making a similar point on your behalf.

I don't mind anybody disagreeing and making good points, but to keep reiterating a falsehood that's clearly debunked in the first two lines of the pick he's referring to is just lazy :)

Seems Wesley is this year's "Mount Union's never seen a defense like ours."  Its tough to gauge the true ability of any unit this time of year.  I have no doubt Wesley is a quality team playing outstanding football, and there are questions about how good this year's addition of the Purple Raiders really is.

Hey, no doubt there are annoyingly overconfident fans of teams who have very little shot of winning at MUC that post each year, but having watched both teams ... let me just put it this way:

If you strip away the semifinal histories of the respective programs and just watch the two teams, you'd see things a bit differently.

Basically, if you were picking teams one by one, you'd draft a whole lot more Wesley players sooner than you would Mount Union players. That to me means Wesley has the talent to win. But we all know the team that plays the best usually wins, and NOBODY has been better over the past 15+ years than Larry Kehres at getting a team to play well, to understand and execute in-game adjustments and to play to his team's strengths and the other team's weaknesses.

I would not be surprised in the least if Mount Union played a better team game tomorrow.

I don't know that Wesley is the best D that MUC has faced this year, but they are on another plane from what MUC has seen so far in the playoffs. (and likewise for Wesley, of course)

Wow Keith.....I thought we had FINALLY cured you of the Mount hating!   ;)

So does this mean I can't poke my head into the banquet if you're in Salem next week?

I sure as heck am gonna try to go to breakfast on campus tomorrow.

What you refer to as hating, I refer to as objectivity. The fact that the D3 gang, which could take the easy way out and just pick Mount Union every game of every season, still cares enough to put time into watching, analyzing and occasionally picking against your team should be a good thing.

Keep complaining, and my pick next week is just gonna be "Mount wins/loses."

Keith I believe you commented that the game was "closer than the score indicated", but if you were at the game live and in person you would have known that just wasn't true.

I will own up to anything I said, but that one's news to me.

And does watching games on video not count now? I'm sure the nation's football coaches would be interested to know they're wasting their time in the film room.

Come stronger next time.

How can you pic Mount wins/loses, next week?  A Freudian-like slip?  Wesley will be in Salem, according to your National semi-final picks:

Keith: Wesley 31, Mount Union 28
Percentage chance Wesley will win: 45%

Oh, that's right, Mount wins, 55% of the time - how analytical of you.  That is bogus, uncommitted, uncertain, unsure, but you do have both eventualities covered.  You should have watched more Wesley games and Mount DVDs.  Chill out D3, chill out.

Maybe we'll run into each other at the terrific Mount breakfast buffet, I'll wear some purple.

Then, on to what may be a great game - even if I freeze off my posterior - win or lose.

Because you get paid to cover DIII football (and do a good job) does not mean you are objective and analytical and fans are not.   Speaking analytically and objectively, I have my biases, you have yours - Mount wins!

I do retract my "bulletin board material" comment because you are correct, LK and Mount players don't need that.

Hey Seventies,,game day,,you up yet ??

skunks_sidekick

Good Morning Group!

I believe the Wing Warehouse get together was another success.  I was really impressed with their wings, but Saintsfan....you did not miss any talent.

It's really fun for me as a Mount fan to head to the game today truly wondering if this might be "the one".  When you have only witnessed "the one" five times in the last dozen or more years, it's a weird/exciting/sickening feeling.

See some of you at Poncho's.  I LOVE the smell of margaritas in the morning.

Keith - you are always welcome at the Mount gathering the night before the game.  If we are so lucky to be there, it will be my distinct pleasure to buy you are beverage.

OUT!

I think Wesleydad saw the Cap/MUC gave via Caps video feed, not live in Alliance.

Why is everyone busting Kieth and Pat's balls?  So what if they didn't pick MUC to win (Kieth not Pat).  MUC has lost every so often and Kieth has a right to his opinion, espcecially if he has seen both teams play (3X each) this year (Live or in person).  That is 2 more times than I have seen MUC play and 3 more times than I have seen Wesley play this year.

We all know that the Raiders will be ready.  Hopefully they can be ready for a good game since they haven't had a decent opponent since Capital.  That may be the biggest problem for the team, especially if Wesley comes out an punches them in the mouth in the first quarter.   Can the Raiders take it and react in kind?  I think so, but who knows until it happens.  MUC needs to have a good game either way to prepare for UWW/Linfield if they are fortunate enough to make it past Wesley.  I don't want another 50 something to 10 game.  The team needs to go through some adversity and win if they want another Walnut and Bronze Trophy!

Just read an article in the Alliance Review and Wesley also has an Oregon transfer (added to the Iowa transfer) in the Defensive Backfield.  Where are all the haters calling out Weley about DI transfers like they used to for MUC (although usually untrue)?  ;)

Keith - Thanks for coming down and playing with us in the shallow end of the gene pool.

Haven't seen you post here in a couple years.  The PA TPK will make people do strange things.

Have fun today!
