I think there's a possibility of the ric & conrad show.

QuoteRocco has had some issues with seizures and I think LK is smart in handling it the way he did.

You DO understand what you said here.
If he had 'some issues' he should have been up with ric  & conrad and a pair of binoculars.
Period.

Spreads for the Stagg have been posted.

Please note we're picking the game with and without Rocco.  See pick-em page for more info.

HS,

Who gets the 3-pt. home team "advantage"?

wanted to seperate my game comments from my other thoughts on the trip.

as far as the game goes, congrats to mount on a hard fought win yesterday.  too much defense and too much cecil shorts.  when i predicted wesley to score 31 i figured they would have come up with something that would allow them to move the ball, i gave the offensive coaches too much credit.  how many times can you run a straight QB something for no gain or lose before you scrap it?  how many times can your tackles get smoked at the line of scrimmage before you start keeping help in or have quicker routes?  how do you choose to throw a pop pass for the first time all year against the best defense in D3?  plenty of questions and no answers.

Great move by LK to put shorts in at qb, the offense was not going to score again with #7 at qb, so he really didnt have a choice.  one coach makes the adjustment and one does not, difference in the game.  the wesley d played possibly its best game of the year and it was not good enough.  i will strongly disagree with anyone who thinks they put up 50+ with rocco, at the time of his injury, it was 10 - 0 and the game had settled into a defensive battle, he was running for his life often enough to allow one to think that mount would have had trouble scoring.  it also diminishes what was a great football game.  10 - 7 midway thru the 3rd had plenty of mount folks nervous.

again congrats on the win and good luck in salem, we will be there to watch, hopefully a very competitve game.  hopefully Rocco is ok and can play, gives mount a better chance although, shorts may be the wild card that LK plays again.

Or my question, why at the end of the 3rd quarter, on third down with the wind at your back do you choose to let the time expire and throw into a solid 15 mile an hour wind. 3rd down calls were puzzling. To a certain extent, for both teams.

wesleydad,

I wanted to say hello, but when I looked from across the field I could not find you and had to leave right at game's end,

I agree with your assessment of the game. I said in an earlier post regarding Mount's success in games where the talent is pretty even, that of Coach Kehres many abilities is when he adjusts to the game situation. I like you was surprized that Wesley's play calling remained unchanged in changing tempo of the game.

For the Raiders at the Stagg, I believe in the old saying that Defense wins championships. In a game of equals, key special teams play and a consuming defense generally wins. Coach Kehres will figure a way for the Mount offense to be in the game, regardless of who the QB will be.

I would not want to be the DC for UWW this week, he will have alot to
consider!

Glad your trip to Alliance and back was a safe one!

raider68, well, i will be at the stagg and easy to find.  we will be with stone station tailgating and i will again don the #13 jersey.  yea, i also mentioned that my biggest concern was whether the coaches would do what had to be done to give the team the best chance to win.  IMO the key plays, both negative for Wesley were the pop pass that was intercepted and the drop by Krout that would have given Wesley a first down past the 30 in the 4th quarter, if i recall, that came on the play before the sack/fumble that put the game out of reach.  too many long routes exposed wesley's weakness, the o line pass blocking.

This was one of my biggest questions after watching the game on my DVR this afternoon. Also, if Wesley had thrown and it went incomplete, they could have punted with the wind at their back in the third quarter as well, instead of the disaster that developed.

Desertraider

Have not been able to post since the game but wanted to put a feww comments in here.
First, Wesley played a good game and gave Mount the test they needed. That being said, if this was Wesley's "A" game then they should be glad they did not advance.
Second, Wesley started slow (Mounts D was a big reason for this) and did not finish. Its been said on here time and again that if you want to beat Mount you need to limit mistakes and take advantage of Mounts mistakes - and you gotta keep Mount from playing on a short field (I said that in a post before the game).
Third, The fourth qtr showed me everything I needed about Wesley. The fumbled snap deep to start the 4th was the backbreaker. That showed me Wesley was not ready to step up. At that point it was 10-7 and Wesley needed to show they were going to take it (ala Mount in the Stagg against UWW with the 8 minute drive in the 4th qtr). Wesley showed they were not ready yet.
Fourth I don't think the hit on Rocco was intentional - it happens- but both hits were helmet to helmet. The second hit was helmet to helmet while Rocco had a knee on the ground (nice camera job). I thought at least one of those should have drawn a flag.
Fifth the officials let the plays go to long. Harry Paidas kept saying on the rebroadcast that the whistle should be blown sooner and he was right. The officials let both sides play - but several plays were over and the whistles never blew to end the play. What resulted was a lot of piling on that could lead to injuries.
Sixth I think with Rocco in the score is 40+. Wesley's D did not show me they could stop Mount in the 1st qtr. They stopped Mount with Seaman in the game which is a big difference. I don't believe Wesley went "toe-to-toe" with the best, but they did provide a test.

Cecil came up big and they could not stop him. The question is: if Rocco is a no go, what does a great UWW D do against a wildcat? Most NFL analysts agree that the wildcat does not work on a solid D, with good LBs (and UWW has always had solid LB play). Thank god Borzick is not there anymore - kid was scary good. Sorry for the ramble. Gotta run-
